about
KENTARO
Kentaro’s introduction to dance music goes back to the early eighties in New York where he spent his childhood and witnessed the dawn of hip-hop and b-boy culture. After returning to Tokyo, he was more into rock and punk music until he got into rare-groove and jazz funk in the mid nineties. Around the same time, he was introduced to house music, and hearing stories about the Paradise Garage and the Loft in New York from the veterans of the scene who had been members at these legendary institutions. This eventually led him to help David Mancuso’s first Japan tour in the late nineties. These experiences are the foundation of Kentaro’s selections, which are loosely centred around classics and fresh material of disco and house, but not limited to genres.
