Avalon Emerson is from the desert. While she currently lives in Berlin, the music she produces comes from the dreamlike expanse and abstract textures of the Sonoran landscapes of Arizona. Her journey has taken her from that sunbaked state to the contemporary dance music mecca via a long stint in San Francisco, where she cut her teeth as a DJ in the city's storied warehouse party scene. In her DJ sets and productions now, she offers a timeless narrative that reflects a passion for the sound design of new wave, the futurism of techno, the soul of American house and the exuberance of rave. While bringing as assortment of oddball disco, house classics, and international sounds to the airwaves and the dance floor, they partner with different environmental charities on a local and national level to rase money and awareness for a variety of causes, and have some fun while doing it.

Step forward Elena Colombi, a DJ and radio host whose inspired sets are not only open-minded and mind-altering, but also seek to toy with the emotions of listeners and dancers via shifts in intensity, tone, light and shadow. Her distinctive approach is truly unique, in part thanks to a widescreen grasp of different musical cultures, sounds and rhythms, born out of travelling the world with her family from a young age. This nomadic approach is something that Colombi still embraces. After ten years living in London and making her mark in the city’s electronic music underground and a brief relocation to Brussels, the artist is now based in Amsterdam, where she can be found contributing to the vital local scene whilst focusing on her new label, Osàre! Editions. Launched in the summer of 2019, the imprint was inspired by the Italian translation of ‘daring’ or ‘bold’. In 1981 a good part of Walias including Hailu used the first ever US tour of an Ethiopian music group to escape the dictatorial Mengistu regime. Since then Hailu has been a resident of the Washington DC area, spending most of his recent years as a cab driver at the capital's Dulles Airport and playing only privately. Enter Brian Shimkovitz, operator of the acclaimed blog-turned-record label Awesome Tapes From Africa, who came across "Hailu Mergia & His Classical Instrument", a somehow obscure 1985 cassette, in a music store in Ethiopia, tracked down the old maestro and reissued it: This charming tape has both a nostalgic feel (in its attempt to revive the accordion, once East Africa's leading instrument before electrified "western" rock style instrumentation took over) as well as a futuristic dimension (recorded by the exiled Hailu all by himself in multi-track it features a host of synthesizers and drum machines). On the back of Shimkovitz' reissue of "Classical Instrument" (which came out June 25 2013), Hailu started to play live again - in the US with the New York based Afrobeat band Low Mentality and in Europe with a hard-tobeat rhythm section made up from two leading Australian improvisors living in Berlin: Tony Buck (drums) has been involved in a highly diverse array of projects but is probably best known around the world as a member of the genre-bending trio and cult band The Necks. Mike Majkowski (*1983) on double bass has come to acclaim with his imaginative solo performances and for his sideman work for Peter Brötzmann and Han Bennink. Together the trio explores the deep, liquid and hypnotic qualities of Hailu Mergia's music, while not forgetting to throw in some defty bits of funk now and then.

Hamburg native Helena Hauff is an in-demand DJ as well as an acclaimed producer of gritty, hard-edged electro-techno. Her music draws from influences such as acid house, EBM, and industrial, and she records her tracks strictly using analog equipment, usually in one take. Her full-length debut, 2015's Discreet Desires, contains some of her most melodic material, while 2018's Qualm is more stripped-down but no less energetic. The Ams­ter­dam-based artist made his ascen­sion with some of Rot­ter­dam’s finest imprints, all the while fill­ing dance floors across the coun­try and through­out Europe. John Raffaele brings life to the dance floor leaving listener's nothing short of exhilarated., the spawn of Subsurface and Impressions Philadelphia has engaged John deeper into creating his own sound. DJing since 2011, New York native John Raffaele has been bringing life to dancefloors in the US and abroad on countless occasions. His tireless work and commitment to nightlife and music culture with his projects Subsurface (party) & Impressions Philly (record store) could be described as an unquenchable thirst for more. After relocating to Philadelphia in 2016, John wasted no time working dancefloors across the city for underground local crews. After 2 years in the Philadelphia circuit, John teamed up with his partner and one of his closest friends, Keen in December 2017 to launch the now accredited warehouse party series- Subsurface, to channel their vision into their own experience to share with others in Philadelphia. Since then they have wasted no time reshaping the mold of underground parties in Philadelphia hosting artists such as Anthony Parasole, Omar S, John Dimas, Steve O’Sullivan, and more recently Hamish & Toby, Brawther, Analog Soul, Christian AB and more with no signs of slowing down. In August of 2020, during the pandemic John had been digging for records at such a frequent rate, and being out of gigs with little income- he spawned Impressions Philadelphia, an online/ pop-up record store, filling a void for dance music record shopping in Philly. Since then, the shop has made a mark on local DJ’s and collectors in the city. As a producer, John has been working behind the scenes tirelessly at developing his sound. Sapropelic Pycnic is the solo project of Ka Baird of Spires That In The Sunset Rise. Ka Baird is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist living and working in NYC. She is one of the founding and continuing members of the long running avant psych project Spires That In The Sunset Rise. Described by Jack Rose as a "female Sun City Girls," STITSR have contributed a different slant to the New Folk movement by incorporating various avant-garde and world music influences into their music. Their sound has been compared to the Raincoats, Meredith Monk, Comus and Harry Partch. Their most recent album "Beasts In The Garden" was described by Marc Masters as "some kind of long-lost Terry Riley/Angus MacLise collaboration, equally devoted to divine repetition and center-seeking ritual." Since 2001, they have released eight full length records and several side releases. Since relocating to NYC in November 2014, Baird has set off in numerous directions apart from Spires with new collaborations as well as honing in on her own solo work. Her current work explores piano improvisation, electroacoustic interventions, extended vocal techniques, physical movement, and her unusual electronic manipulation of the flute. She released an album of piano improvisations through Brooklyn label Perfect Wave "See Sun Think Shadow" in November of 2015 and a tribute record "A Love Supreme" dedicated to John Coltrane through Chicago label No Index in January of 2016. She has toured extensively both nationally and internationally with performances at the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), MoMA PS1 (Brooklyn), Roulette Intermedium (Brooklyn), Issue Project Room (Brooklyn), Cafe OTO (London) and numerous festival appearances with Spires including TUSK (Newcastle, UK), Incubate (Tilburg, Netherlands), and Festival Of Endless Gratitude (Copenhagen, DK). She also co-runs the label and concert organizer Perfect Wave with Camilla Padgitt-Coles.

Kate NV is... ...the multifaceted solo persona of Moscow-based artist Kate Shilonosova. A changeling that follows afflatus in all its forms, NV is a student of architecture, illustrates curious, colorful characters, and improvises live with bells and water glasses amidst compact synthesizers and cables. Her debut Pink Jungle EP was followed by the frenetic pop-leaning Binasu released by Orange Milk in 2016 and the minimalist exploration of для FOR released by RVNG in 2018. As her musical pendulum swings back from playful instrumental to surreal song, NV is paired with RVNG for the second time on Room for the Moon. NV describes the songs of Moon, as dear friends; each piece of music is a moody cinematic moment where NV performs with a cast of off-kilter objects. Influenced by Japanese 80s pop and Russian conceptualism, Victor Pivovarov comes through when NV describes composing music. Imagine entering a cozy room that has boundaries but at the same time can contain an entire world. Celestial bodies party and time fits in a pocket. When composing, NV listens to her surroundings and daydreams while abstract electronics and enchanted songs visit. Recorded around Moscow with friends and collaborators, the music is a frothy distortion of nostalgic atmospheres cast in sax, base, marimba and MIDI. Singing is at the foreground-- beaming with assurance, delivered in multiple languages and characters. One gets the sense that NV as a performer has near infinite capacity to push further.

Lena Willikens doesn’t play the hits. When she’s behind the decks, even her biggest fans often have no idea exactly what she’s playing, and that’s part of the magic. Like all DJs, Willikens of course has a passion for records and is always on the hunt for elusive bits of music, but as an artist, her work doesn’t hinge on any one track or even a handful of tracks. She’s after something bigger, something that’s truly transportive for those on the dancefloor, and the tracks she plays – whether they’re bizarre slices of synth exploration, some ominously churning proto-industrial stomp, or something else that simply defies classification – are all parts of a larger, more psychically satisfying whole. These days, however, Willikens' radio adventures happen on NTS, where she pilots the monthly Lightning Conductor program. Now based in Amsterdam, her curatory prowess prompted an invite from Dekmantel to put together the fifth installment of their acclaimed Selectors compilation series, and she also contributed a track to the label’s run of all-star 10th anniversary EPs. As a remixer, she's been tapped in recent years to rework the likes of Lena Platonos, rRoxymore, S U R V I V E, Simian Mobile Disco, and Ana Helder, amongst others. And amidst all this activity, she's also been busy with Phantom Kino Ballett, a collaboration with artist Sarah Szczesny that lands somewhere between immersive audio-visual experience and performance art, allowing Willikens to indulge her transportive impulses in a completely new way. Nevertheless, it’s in the DJ booth where Willikens continues to make the biggest impact. As of late, she’s forged a particularly potent partnership with fellow sonic explorer and Salon des Amateurs alum Vladimir Ivkovic, the two engaging in a sort of mind meld that brings together their shared love of electronic music’s darkest and most bizarre corners. Pelada, the duo of singer Chris Vargas and producer Tobias Rochman, broke out of Montreal's underground warehouse rave scene in 2014 after uploading tracks to Soundcloud which caught the attention of the global dance music scene. They spent the next five years touring the globe extensively before signing with Berlin experimental label PAN in 2019 and releasing their debut LP 'Movimiento Para Cambio';. A record which Mixmag included in their 'Best Albums of the Decade' list, Resident Advisor named it 'One of the Best Records of 2019'; while DJ Mag asserted "they are a vital and contemporary addition to dance music's punk cannon". Their collaboration is a blend of urgent Spanish language vocals centered around themes of power, control, social justice with hardware samplers, synths, and drum machines. The unique sound has led them to perform in many different contexts, whether it be entire tours opening for more traditional punk acts like Iceage and Shame, to the exact opposite, performing live during peak times at techno clubs such as Berghain. After the brutal awakening of the 2011 earthquakes in Japan, she became motivated to pursue a career in music. Now a notable name in Tokyo’s electronic music scene, she has toured North America, Europe, China and her home country, and released on labels such as Japan’s Big Love and Los Angeles’ Not Not Fun/100% Silk. „The challenging sets he delivers are not always easy, but almost always ingenious“ Strange Sounds From Beyond Vladimir Ivkovic is a DJ. He’s more than that of course, but as his essence, Ivkovic is someone with a particularly unique talent for selecting records and weaving them into a larger – and often unusually compelling – narrative. Born and raised in Belgrade, he first dabbled in DJing as a teenager in the mid ’80s, but it was only after leaving Yugoslavia (to study in Germany) and later coming back for a summertime visit that he truly immersed himself in the craft, taking up position behind the decks during a series of impromptu parties at a lakeside restaurant owned by his parents. From there, he spent much of the next two decades honing his skills while throwing events like Selected and Substance that played host to a cross-section of boundary-pushing DJs, long before it was fashionable to do so. Eventually, Ivkovic found his musical and spiritual home at Salon des Amateurs, an unassuming spot in Düsseldorf that’s gradually proven to be wildly influential, giving rise in recent years to otherworldly talents like Lena Willikens, Tolouse Low Trax, Jan Schulte and many others, including Ivkovic himself. With its small size, Salon des Amateurs provided something of an open platform, a place where true music lovers could experience DJs exploring sounds and genres that strayed far from traditional electronic dance music tropes. That same adventurous spirit has found its way into Ivkovic’s curation of Offen Music, a label he launched in 2015. Although the imprint’s output is all but impossible to neatly categorize – experimental Serbian rarities sit alongside ambient excursions and moody synth-pop in the label’s catalogue – the label’s open-minded approach and embrace of off-kilter sounds perfectly encapsulates Ivkovic’s artistic temperament. For well over a decade, he plied his trade, largely unheralded, on the city’s underground dance music scene. Once a key part of the Rush Hour family – the legendary Amsterdam label releasing a number of his early singles – in 2011 he made his debut on Lovefingers’ highly regarded ESP Institute label. His first two EPs for the label set out his now-trademark style, and won support from the likes of Dixon and James Murphy, amongst others, along the way. It’s perhaps unsurprising that a string of remix requests followed, leading to now classic reworks for the likes of Heatsick, Joakim, Francis Bebey and Soft Rocks. His 2013 remix of Tony G’s “Dreams”, a killer chunk of blissful new age deep house, became one of the most in-demand and sought after records of that year. At the tail end of 2015, the best of these remixes were gathered together on Sorry For The Late Reply, the first release on Marco’s freshly minted Safe Trip imprint. 2014 saw the release of his most accomplished studio work to date, the superb debut album Biology on ESP Institute. Wonderfully picturesque, melodious, humid and glassy-eyed, it received rave reviews and confirmed his status as one of electronic music’s truly unique voices. The same year also saw the release of Clouds, a magical collaborative fulllength written and produced in a weekend with Italian ambient pioneer Gigi Masin and British artist Jonny Nash. Credited to Gaussian Curve and released by Amsterdam’s Music From Memory label, it was the unfeasibly beautiful sound of three like-minded musicians working towards a shared goal. In 2017, Marco is as busy as ever. He’ll be hitting the road April onwards with Gaussian Curve for a handful of live dates around the world in support of their second album The Distance, while his contribution to Dekmantel’s series of crate-digging compilations, Selectors, is due to hit in March. His own label – Safe Trip – will be picking up steam with a string of releases that explore electronic music in many different directions. As usual, you’ll also find him spreading his love of weird, wonderful and eccentric music in basements, warehouses and clubs the world over.

Ignited by his early endeavors into Berlin’s gay nightlife, he began DJing at local clubs and bars. He soon started to perform regularly back home in Nürnberg, while also curating and organizing concerts and parties as part of an independent promoter collective. By mixing music from different genres and decades, AGY3NA often creates a feeling of nostalgia on the dancefloor, while always keeping his focus on playful rhythms and uplifting transitions. When he stands behind the decks, AGY3NA connects to his own feelings of freedom on the dancefloor. His music selection gravitates towards spacey, explorative, and rhythm-focused House and Electro. Afrofuturism, an aesthetic that explores the intersection of African culture and futuristic icons, plays a leading role in his artistic work. It not only connects his intrinsic urge for experimentation with his artistic expression, but also links it with his identity as a black man growing up in Germany. “I think that’s what music is missing: Live frequencies. I miss those days when people just created from the love of music.” When Byron The Aquarius talks about live frequencies, his enthusiasm is infectious. A keys player by trade, Byron’s love for melody and harmony has consistently drawn the attention of electronic music’s leading labels and producers. In 2015, Byron released a ten track solo album on BBE entitled “Planets of Love.” When he wasn’t working on his own music, he was playing keys in the studio with Kai Alce. These creations got into the hands of Theo Parrish, who loved the sound of his sublime jazz-infected house and picked two tracks to release on his legendary Sound Signature label in 2016. The resulting “Highlife EP” has been hailed as “stunning”, “intoxicating” and “essential.” In the years since, Byron has released a consistently high level of music on Wild Oats, Eglo records & more. ̸BIOGRAPHY Carmen Jaci is a French-Canadian experimental music producer currently based in the Netherlands. Using hybrid sounds that merge acoustic instruments with synthesizers and vocal recordings, Carmen constructs a sound world where electronic and classical music overlap. Over the years, she has crafted a personal and unique language which largely revolves around the ideas of discontinuity and formal deconstruction. Her writing rapidly alternates between contrasting spaces and sonic elements, drawing influence from popular and classical artists such as Foodman, Igor Stravinsky and Grimes. As described by Musicworks magazine: “Although the music moves through countless changes from one ultrashort fragment to the next in a state of near weightlessness, it doesn’t sound disjointed. Being asked to describe his own music, Christian Löffler states that he tries to combine melancholy with euphoria. „All my music is connected by a gloomy spirit, which is minted by a warm sincerity. I try to merge all kinds of different acoustic colors to obtain this feeling in my music.” Löffler started to play music by the age of 14. Living in a secluded region, lacking a musical surrounding, he had to teach himself the essentials of making electronic music. Before long he developed his own deep and moving sound, colored with a melancholic undertone- Music for the soul & for the body. He recalls a variety of music styles he listened to as a child and teenager that were highly influential to his own development as a musician. Due to the fact that Löffler is also working as a visual artist, he’s following the same approach when making music that he’s following when painting or taking photos. It is more about telling a story than making everything accessible right from the start. In the course of the production of EP’s like „Heights”, „Raise” and „Aspen”, Löffler developed some strategies to use acoustic material in his music. Amongst others he samples different stringed instruments, percussion and atmospheres. He continues working with the recordings on the computer, combining, layering and alternating them. For his debut album „A Forest“ he enriched his sound collages by co-working with singers like Gry and Mohna. An Album in the spirit of the enchanting woods of his home region. The extraordinary capacities of this young producer have kept eyes and ears closely following the fresh talent as Löffler’s deep moving melancholic sound, is absolutely irresistible. In 2014 the highly acclaimed „Young Alaska“ EP is setting the stage for his second studio album to be released in Winter 2014/15.

En Resident of the TEMPIO NERO parties in Montreal and of N10.AS radio with his show VORTEX/IL CIBO, Samuel Ricciuti Alias ​​D.B.Y. (Dog Bless You), Queer artist, has been producing music and mixing since the late 1990s. D.B.Y is also manager and founder of the label Chez.Kito.Kat Records which he created and which has produced 92 albums and organized more than 200 shows for 20 years on independant and electronic scene between Europe and North America. First arrived in production with a sampler as a beatmaker and dj for HIP HOP bands, he discovered electronic music in the mid-90s. ̸BIOGRAPHY Detroit | Mixmode | Sushitech Of the original crop of Detroit DJs, Delano Smith is one of the few still dedicated to the craft. Reflecting on house and techno without his influence would reveal a very different musical landscape today. Coming up when the world was just discovering the impact a DJ could have, Delano traversed his way to the top in a tough scene full of talent. Although dance music post The Belleville Three and Underground Resistance is well documented, the context that set the tone for them to emerge is less so. At a time described as the Wild West by some, when party culture was taking its first tentative steps, Delano honed his skills under the the guidance of the late, great Ken Collier. With initial sets fusing soul, disco and early electronic sounds, Delano planted seeds in the minds of Detroit’s subsequent generations. Those dancing to his sets in the late 70s and early 80s would later become ambassadors of a scene with worldwide appeal. Now, Delano stands shoulder to shoulder with the figureheads he once educated, writing a brand new chapter for house and techno. Delano’s story is long and intriguing, first taking to the decks in friends’ basements, these weekend sessions turned into the dance hall parties that paved the way for Delano’s residencies at clubs across Detroit. Championing permutations of the post-Disco era, a sound described by the D’s luminaries as “progressive” before house and techno were officially coined, Delano began to receive bookings beyond his home state, eventually touring what would become a familiar axis between the US and Europe. Following a period out of the game, Delano returned with a new focus, forming the DJ collective BeatDownSounds with long-time peers Norm Talley and Mike "Agent X" Clark. The trio offered a unique, slowed down and raw take on house, a sound picked up by London/Tokyo label, Third Ear Records, and presented on the double-length compilation ‘Detroit BeatDown Vol.1’, the success of which enabled Delano and his partners to represent the Motor City on an international level. Comparatively late to production, Delano started releasing his own music in earnest from 2002 onwards, finding homes on esteemed underground labels and of course on his own Mixmode imprint. In 2009 Delano formed a pivotal relationship with the Berlin based Sushitech Records, following a chance meeting with label head Yossi Amoyal, the setting Panorama Bar, a club that would later help define Delano’s musical direction. After a string of successful Sushitech EPs, Delano dropped ‘Odyssey’ onto the scene’s collective consciousness, an album spawning enduring dancefloor favourites. Two years later his sophomore long player arrived, loaded with dark and dubby material ‘Twilight’ was a curve ball to follow the hysteria that greeted his debut. 2017 saw Delano add yet another Sushitech LP to his discography, entitled ‘Detroit Lost Tapes’ it offered archived material, dug out and recontextualised with a worldwide tour following in support.

Efe Ce Ele aka Feli Cabrera López is a Colombian artist currently based in Barcelona. Vibrant releases for Local Action, Ninja Tune and her own label and party, femme culture, have marked her as an unstoppable force within the London underground. This recognition metabolised when she was awarded BBC’s prestigious Essential Mix of the Year in 2021, spotlighting her radiant blend of classic house, breakbeat and experimental electronica to the world over. As the next curator of DJ-Kicks, Elkka is voyaging through rave euphoria. “This is a really special moment for me because DJ-Kicks has been a formative part of my musical education,” she says. An intoxicating journey through Chicago house and disco, leftfield techno, UK bass and electro-punk, Elkka conjures up an atmosphere that is as primed for the club as it is the listener’s interior world. Elkka’s spellbinding DJ-Kicks mix starts with a simple whispered phrase: “Attention, lovers.” As ethereal synths gently undulate out of view, the life-affirming stomp of Shade’s 1978 disco classic Music Is the Only Way (I Can Communicate) comes into sharp focus. “I use track titles to communicate feelings. To have Herbert involved is like all my worlds in the naughties colliding at once.” London producer Breaka’s Like Water to a Fish deploys d’n’b breaks over a syncopated synthline, whereas Villager’s Monocyclical invokes the bursting energy of its title, acid 303 bass swirling bouncing around a driving 4/4 beat. Elkka’s own exclusive DJ-Kicks contributions further this magpie-like approach, and uncannily ring out like sister tracks. Hands’ lead synth melody and rolling hi-hat is gloriously uplifting, summoning the euphoric physicality of its title. ̸BIOGRAPHY Aimée Portioli is a Berlin-based Dutch-Italian composer and sound designer who records and performs as Grand River. Portioli makes experimental electronic music with rich emotional colours. Her work, influenced by minimalism and ambient music, is atmospheric yet rhythmically complex, incorporating a wide range of contemporary compositional and production techniques. The name Grand River evokes nature, scale, and movement, all key forces in Portioli’s work. Her first release as Grand River was 2017’s Crescente EP, which was named by XLR8R as one of the best releases of the year. She followed this with her debut album Pineapple (Spazio Disponibile, 2018), which garnered praise from The Quietus among others, while its follow-up Blink A Few Times To Clear Your Eyes (Editions Mego, 2020) was positively received by Resident Advisor and The Verge, and was elected among best albums of 2020 by Inverted Audio. Her work has separately appeared on compilations by Ghostly International, Tresor, and Longform Editions. Her third album All Above will be released in 2023 once again on Editions Mego. 

Besides her studio albums, Portioli has created original sound art installations for Rome’s La Galleria Nazionale and Milan’s Il Pianeta, a project of Terraforma Festival. She also contributed her interpretation of a meditation piece for the Soundworks app together with MUTEK, collaborated with Ableton for the creation of Live 11 and Ableton Loop and created and performed her piece “Tuning the Wind” in 4D sound in several occasions. Portioli has performed as Grand River at major international venues and festivals, including CTM Festival, NODE Festival, Berghain, MUTEK, Mapping Festival, Kraftwerk, Barbican Hall, Funkhaus, Maintenant Festival, Le Guess Who?, The Labyrinth, WOS Festival, and many more. She was selected to take part in SHAPE Platform’s 2021 programme. ̸BIOGRAPHY DJ, curator, and all-around trouble maker, Jacq Jill is an undeniable force in the American underground. Known for being as versatile as they are technically gifted, featuring all across the spectrum of the Underground in the Mid-Atlantic US and beyond. Splitting their time between DC and Baltimore, Jacq has been spinning energetic “techno-adjacent” sets for nearly a decade. Jacq has multiple releases on a who’s who of mix series and is featured on the 2019 Boiler Room North American Tour. Selection is so important, as is energy. As much as they work hard to be a diverse and conscious selector, they work twice as hard to be an energy provider and community organizer. With the release of Profound Sounds Vol. 2, Wink continues to forge ahead, challenging established conventions of what a mix CD should be, not only by remaining true to his mercurial aesthetic as a DJ, but also taking advantage of technology to fine-tune his selections into the best possible recorded representation of Josh Wink.,“Profound Sounds Vol. 1 is one of my favorite compilations – it just happens that I made it," says Wink of the new album’s 1999 predecessor. “It represents me, and the way I combine house and techno, in both my DJ sets and as a producer, pretty well. ̸BIOGRAPHY Kazuya Nagaya uses bronze bells, gongs and singing bowls which are mostly used in Buddhist or Hindu rituals in Tibet, Bali and Japan. He creates unique ambient music by mixing these sacred instruments with modern instruments such as keyboards and electric guitars.Before starting his solo carrier, Nagaya composed music for broadcasted commercials and won the finalist prize for "Best Use of Sound" from the "Hollywood Radio & Television Sociaty". Earlier, in his twenties, he started out pursuing his talents in literature and became a writer. His works, especially his story titled "Indio no mabushii kami" about Japan's ethnic minority, won enthusiastic praise within Japan's publishing circles. During this period, he also became deeply interested in literary works that were becoming lost in the shuffle of contemporary Japanese society: novels like the "Tales of Genji", as well as Buddhist folktales and Zen philosophical works. These interests breathed life into his music, and the sensibilities and philosophical views which he developed during his literary years have come to be reflected in large measure in the music he creates today. An example of this can be detected in the sounds of bells heard so frequently in his music. The giant bells found in Japanese temples are rung each New Year's eve. The sound is believed to purify and wash away the cares of this mortal world, and crowds flock to listen in reverent silence. What they listen for, however, is not the sound at the moment the bell is struck, but rather the fading sound that follows. As the sound fades away, simultaneously, the depth of their own silence grows even greater. In this way, the sound of the bell makes people aware of the profound silence -- and richness -- lying within themselves. It is silence of a depth fundamentally identical to that which is engendered through meditation or Zen. The temple bell, meditation and Zen are all ways of penetrating into the depths of one's self. Nagaya began his carrier as a solo musician with the 1999 release of his first album, "Utsuho". He has released an additional 7 solo albums since then, as of 2010. In 2002, released a collaboration entitled "Resonator" with the American avant-garde composer Carl Stone. In 2004, Nagaya`s tracks were used extensively in "Gaia Symphony No. 4", a well-known documentary flim directed by Jin Tatsumura. In 2005, composed the sound track for the mexican film "WA". Additionally, Martín was previously editor of the now-defunct Dance Party Chronicles, and currently writes for Bolting Bits and Sleazy Beats.

Special Request is the new rugged alias for house and techno stalwart Paul Woolford. Inspired by the unruly conventions of UK pirate radio stations, this project captures the raw energy and diversity of the illegal airwaves and uses this as a springboard of inspiration for a series of heavyweight productions that span from the murky house through dark side techno to chaotic eye-of-the-storm hardcore/jungle tear-outs. The end results are incendiary.

Jack Jutson and Liam Butler are house duo Pender Street Steppers, one of the primary acts associated with Vancouver's celebrated Mood Hut collective. The duo's productions are the aural equivalent of leisurely summer strolls, and they generally contain warm chords, brisk beats, and lo-fi production values. The Steppers' first release was 2013's Life in the Zone, a 90-minute mixtape of original productions. Two of the tape's standout tracks, "Openin' Up" and "M Flight," were pressed to vinyl by Washington, D.C. label Peoples Potential Unlimited in 2014, and three more were collected on the Bubble World EP during the same year. Both of these releases, as well as Jutson's solo singles as Jack J, became favorites with underground house DJs and clubgoers, and the duo stepped up their international touring schedule. Third PSS single "The Glass City" was released in 2015, and a typically relaxed self-titled EP appeared in 2017.

Quan’s expertise designing and operating modular synthesizers delivers a musical palette that jumps between uplifting experimental soundscapes, minimal techno, and deep house. A prominent figure in the development of Vietnam’s experimental electronic music scene, the spontaneous revisions to his live, ever-evolving improvised performances provide an endlessly varied alternative to traditional loop-structured song formats.

Roi Perez is a Berlin-based DJ, After a headstart playing records in 2011 as a local resident in Tel Aviv’s underground queer clubbing scene, he moved to Berlin in 2013 in order to continue his personal journey of establishing a coherent, creative and diverse musical language, skills, style and knowledge. Not so long after, he started playing to Berlin’s busiest dancefloors, including being invited to play at the notorious fetish club Lab. Oratory and Berghain’s Panorama Bar. In 2015 Roi started touring worldwide, performing in important clubs and destinations all across the globe. Roi’s long, eclectic sets offer a dynamic musical journey through genres and styles, where house and techno music are weaved together with disco and electro to create a hypnotizing, powerful yet playful musical experience. ̸BIOGRAPHY S-Candalo is a DJ duo made up of Tania and Dominik Humeres-Correa (THC & DHC). They are siblings, and in their sets, one can hear alongside a deep honour for the oldschool sound a kind of telepathic link that siblings share. Raised in Germany with Colombian and Chilean roots, they are well-acquainted with the act and mindset of mixing (tracks, attitudes, languages) and keeping one’s back to another’s back. In the past years the siblings have engaged in fields ranging from music management to fashion and in their blends there is also a certain synthesis of passion and defined taste that speaks, simply, to fierceness. Fearsomeness, too – their sound is burning and relentless with seductive vocal samples, loopy synths, and bright, punchy kicks. On their recent mixes for platforms such as MARICAS, Radiant Love, Rinse FM, and HÖR, obtuse melodies from the 90s blend with sassy club bangers, then into polyrhythmic grooves, and so on. Their sound is overflowing with the queen and the queer, an energy they also direct into Venus Vessels, a non-profit music collective hosting parties and programming a residency on radio8000. With upcoming gigs this year in London, Amsterdam, Athens and Berlin, expect scandals and heated speakers from city to city.

Through long-form electroacoustic pieces and sharp technoïd productions, his exercises in abstract composition tied with club elements have honest roots. Drawing from a considerable academic background and a self-driven study of the past decades’ outlier electronic music, the diversity of his influences is manifest. Innovative labels such as Rephlex, Warp and Planet Mu, or the pioneering musique concrète of the GRM come to mind as primary examples of that scope. The S. Chioini alias was introduced in July 2019 with “+4 Degrees”, a single that also nudged at the issue of climate change and that got the attention of DJs for its angular rhythms and refined sound design. Coincidentally, the release marked the launch of Humidex, a label Chioini cofounded with friends Absurde and softcoresoft to promote the local techno scene. Previously, his music appeared under the name DJ Voilà on Noumenal Loom (USA, 2017) and the defunct 1080p (Canada, 2016). Closer to his present projects, Compositions 012–015 was published by Where To Now? (UK) in 2016. The album compiles Chioini’s work during his first years studying electroacoustic composition at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. Chioini performed for intimate venues such as Montréal’s Datcha, Société des arts technologiques (SAT), and Eastern Bloc or New York’s The Gateway, Bossa Nova Civic Club and Trans-Pecos. Exit Records became the home for ‘Marka’, a collaboration with Dub Phizix and Strategy which went on to being a DJ’s pick for many dance floors worldwide while racking millions of views on YouTube. Skeptical’s releases schedule with Exit has been thick and strong with releases such as Imperial EP, Outset EP and Without A Trace EP with Alix Perez in 2017. Not shy of collaborating Skeptical is 1/5 of collective group ‘Module Eight’ made up of producers dBridge, Kid Drama, Loxy and Resound. ̸BIOGRAPHY Skesa (Téo Farley) is a Montréal-based Techno DJ and producer whose recordings blend electronic and organic sounds. Skesa’s music has been influenced by a wide range of genres including house, techno, breakbeat and soul. Born in 1997, Teo was brought up listening to his parents’ trip-hop and jazz records, which led him to study drums and percussions during his teenage years, taking part in various jazz and hip-hop bands. Skesa’s debut EP, ‘Anywhere Outside’, was released in spring 2019, showcasing a sound sitting at the crossroads of hip-hop and dancefloor grooves. It featured collaborations from the likes of LayFullStop, Wasiu and Eric Biddines. Since then, he has thoroughly embraced dance music with a series of singles and remixes encompassing complex percussions and textures. His second outing, ‘System’, combined elements of house and techno into an abstract, reflective, yet tonally rich EP. The music video for 'World', which casts an unknown character wandering the streets of Paris, was notably featured on Madorasindahouse. Through these various projects, Téo has established himself as one of the most exciting newcomers in the Montréal electronic music scene, performing at various events and festivals such as Piknic Electronik, MUTEK and Mural, and sharing the stage with artists such as Kaytranada and Patrick Holland. SKY H1’s early works capture the blurring lines between her foundational experiences in drum and bass, grime, dubstep, and techno, all tilted towards the schematic bursts of pop.

Sunsiaré, birthed Jean-François Amadei, is no new face to the East-Asia scene. A figure whose tastes have manifested themselves by way of the Hanoi based Savage Club - whose early days saw a slew of talent pass through the Vietnamese capital and prompted a resurgence of local electronic artists. JF is a natural-born record digger, whose knowledge of what makes a dance floor move goes beyond the last decade and whose diverse collection begs for sonic exploration. Playing alongside such artists as Berghain’s Roi Perez, Boris & Barker, as well as DJ heavyweights like Gonno and Cormac, Amadei is not unfamiliar to the art of the mix. JF, whose hands are also behind the Homesick, FGHB, and the newly launched labels 宀, gave way to creative minds like Powder, Mr. Ho, Marquis Hawkes, General Ludd, and LPZ. Both labels, whose outlets were dedicated to timeless reworks, can be seen riddled with Jf’s influences. It’s not a gimmick – to hear a track slammed into another so deftly is a psychoactive experience. THC’s sets are kinetic, propulsive in this way. High-energy without a loss of soul, hard-hitting and still very playful and very gay. We are reminded that techno need not be a gloomy, rumbling march, and that house has a whole range of attitudes at the same time ruthless and smiling. She blazes, to put it simply. ​Having heated Berlin dancefloors and airwaves for a few years, THC is one of the founders and resident at La Noche and Venus Vessels. She has her own show HOT BOX at HÖR radio, and has released mixes via DJ Mag, Fact Mag and NTS. The last year has also seen her playing alongside her sibling DHC as the duo unit S-candalo. She is the co-founder and music director of Bass Coast Music Festival – known internationally for its innovative music programming and installation art – and is widely considered one of bass music's leading creative minds and tastemakers. Equally an artist and entrepreneur, Andrea’s reputation as an inclusive community-builder in the electronic world has brought her a legion of fans and industry followers across the globe. As a DJ, Andrea's sets move through bass music, dubstep, grime, footwork, jungle, drum and bass and more, tying the diverse genres together with fluid mixing and powerful low end frequencies that push the boundaries of the world's biggest PAs. Andrea performs throughout Canada, the USA, Australia, Central America, India and Southeast Asia. ̸BIOGRAPHY TSVI, AKA Guglielmo Barzacchini, is an Italian DJ and producer based in London; he makes functional, electronic percussive tracks with influences originating from a diverse range of music from all over the world. TSVI is a leading light of the London’s rave underground scene, and he is the co-founder of the UK-based record label Nervous Horizon, which is shaping the contemporary sound of highly percussive, stripped back, club music. His debut album ‘Inner Worlds’, released in October 2018, is an exploration of his Hindu upbringing and the Sufi Islam introduced by his partner. He has received support from Aphex Twin, Gilles Peterson, Kode9 (Hyperdub), Mike Paradinas (Planet Mu) and many more. In recent years, he performed at CTM festival 2019 at Berghain, Field Day London, No Bounds Festival, and he also toured internationally in Europe as well as in China, Japan, Korea and more. In late 2019, Barzacchini made his debut on London-based label AD93 with his new alias, Anunaku; the project is strictly focused on dance floor material within the 125-130bpm spectrum and it explores the use of various drums from around the world combined with elements of UK underground club music.

The in depth interview covered topics from his emergence on to the scene in 2010, his growth as an artist inking a deal with PMR records, a spot on the prestigious Radio 1 “Residency” which facilitated a number of bookings and performances the world over. The article also touched on his on going support from Red Bull Academy to his return to his independent creative roots with his Today Tomorrow records, the innovative spread covered every base. Another mile stone of 2017, was the launch and release of the collaborative efforts of Williams and Julio Bashmore, their first EP, one of many scheduled for further releases in the forthcoming year via their joint Independent Conch records. ̸BIOGRAPHY Michael Paradinas (born 1971) records primarily under the name µ-Ziq (pronounced "music") in addition to a large number of aliases. He runs the british electronic label Planet Mu and first emerged on Rephlex in 1993 with the album 'Tango N'Vectif' and.. Mike Paradinas has become one of the very few artists working with electronics to produce a recognisable amd personalised sound while at the same time mixing far-reaching experimentalism with accessibility through infectious melodies and rhythms. Achieving healthy record sales and staying true to the pioneering spirit of the underground is no mean feat. Hailing from Raynes Park, South West London, Paradinas began operating under the name µ-Ziq whilst studying for a degree in Architecture at Kingston University in 1991. he eventually left before completing the course, partially due to a lack of interest, but more importantly to concentrate all efforts towards his music on a full time basis. Early recordingsfirst emerged on the Rephlex label with the now classic 'Tango N'Vectif' in 1993, followed a few months later by a second, 'Bluff Limbo' in 1994 - on it's initial promo run of 1000 copies, it rapidly gained a noteriety out of all proportion to it's availability, even entering the NME top 50 albums of that year. 'Tango...' meanwhile has gone on to sell in excess of 40,000 copies. In March 1995, Mike signed to Virgin and released the 'Salsa With Mesquite' ep and the album 'In Pine Effect' ("the difference is that where the Aphex Twin's topographical doodles suggest undiscovered, unpeopled planets, µ-ZIq's approach is a good deal more emotional, attempting to tap into the inner, surfing the soul... This is 'techno' elevated above the mere functionalism of the dancefloor, lighting fires in the heart and painting pictures for the mind's eye." - Melody Maker). This year also saw the genesis of 'Jake Slazenger', one of Mike's numerous pseudonyms with the acclaimed future-past casio jazz-funk of the 'Makesaracket' album on Clear. 1996 saw Paradinas join forces with Richard James for Aphex's one and only collaboration album 'Mike and Rich' on Rephlex; it was also the year that Mike signed to Warp for his second Jake Slazenger album and indie chart number 1: 'Das Ist Ein Groovy Beat, Ja'. May 1997 saw the release of 'Lunatic Harness', his third album proper, which saw µ-Ziq introducing more aspects of jungle style programming into his music (previously showcased on the 'Urmur Bile Trax' series). This time he was mixing elements of twisted hip hop, carnivalesque synths, toy-town world music and - what became known as - 'drill & bass' with his own inimitable style. Though he may incorporate these elements in his music, Mike never lets these influences smother a track entirely, instead mixing it all up into an end result that is both innovative and new. At 50,000 worldwide sales & counting, album of the week in both NME and Melody Maker, many others thought so too. 20 years ago Mike launched his own independent record label 'Planet Mu' releasing material by Venetian Snares, Remarc, Vex'd, Machinedrum, Kuedo & Jlin amongst many many others, including some of his own projects 'Kid Spatula' & the 'Slag Boom Van Loon' collaborations with Jochem Paap (aka Speedy J). Now over 350 releases old, Planet Mu has become one of the mainstays of the electronic music scene along with Ninjatune and Warp records, gaining more respect with every year that passes. In July '99 Mike released 'Royal Astronomy' on Virgin Records' 'Hut Recordings' subsiduary. Musically a sizeable shift from 'Lunatic Harness', the album focused more on his orchestral leanings (which were already present on 'In Pine Effect') and he was further inspired (as support act on her 1998 Homogenic tour) by Björk's use of live string sections in her shows. The album revealed a more poppy and melodic side to Paradinas than on previous occasions, while taking care not to discard any of the innovative programming and cutting edge beats that he'd become renowned for. The album was preceded by aa single 'The Fear', an infeciously haunting vocal track with pastoral strings underpinned by a Northern Soul mid-tempo shuffler rhythm, displayting the versatile nature of Paradinas' output. In 2003 Paradinas' Planet Mu label released one of their most successful records to date: 'Bilious Paths', Mike's 10th album as µ-Ziq. 12 tracks of hard cut-up breaks and electronics, distorted washes of melodic detrius and occasional serene ambience. Much of the album charted new territory for Paradinas, like the opening track 'Johnny Maastricht' which was inspired by the then new and emerging Garage sounds which would eventually coelesce into Dubstep and Grime, but with Mike's own trademark melodic sensibilities taking the place of the bass and the 'Grape Nut Beats' duo of tracks which mixed 6/8 gabber/tekno, old skool rave and nu-skool breaks to devestating effect. 'On/Off featured the vocal 'talents' of Ghostly's Mike Dykehouse (who has also released on Planet Mu) embellishing a dirty-bass electro anthem about panties.
