By the end of 2013, though EDM and electronic music grew and drew crowds and audiences in Hong Kong, in the city with the world’s most glamorous skyline and never sleeping lights, Trance was nowhere to be found with a scene non-existent and a crowd unheard of. Was there really nobody that listened to Trance in Hong Kong? Was it that hard just to find a gig which played some good uplifting? Did anyone even enjoy anything other than the EDM floating around? These were questions that deeply troubled Raymond “Rase” Mak as he was on his own soul-searching journey that Trance has taken him through. Rase himself has always been a deep Trance fan, from his early days appreciating Paul van Dyk, Eddie Halliwell, Rank1, Armin van Buuren to his 10 years in Melbourne and being exposed to the Uplifting and Hard Trance, from events such as Two Tribes, Godskitchen, Trance Energy, to Armin Only. Upon his return to Hong Kong, although he met many lovers of Trance, the people were few and far in between, and the events even less. On an evening in 2013, he came to an epiphanic moment. If Hong Kong did not have a Trance scene, why not build one from the ground up? Alas, tranception HK was born and the project began.
