about
To thank you all for your continued support we are very proud to present none other than the amazing Palms Trax to our humble space this coming Friday, 21st of April. To have him perform in such an intimate room as room as ours is a rather rare occasion, seeing as he has graced the decks of the biggest festivals and clubs around the world - from Panorama Bar in Berlin to Concrete in Paris and De School in Amsterdam. Having gotten his start at a leading record store in London, then discovering the wonders of Chicago house and Detroit techno, Palms Trax’s releases on Dekmantel and Rush Hour brought his work to the international stage. His distinctively percussive and uplifting sound has since captured the attention of the world and the rest is history. We are so excited to dance to his unique selection- with Acadana’s beloved “Disco Doctor” JayMe on support duty… what a treat! A reminder to grab your presale tickets early because it will be a packed one.
Palms Trax
For aspiring DJs and producers, or indeed anyone who appreciates a good story, the genesis of Palms Trax couldn’t have read any dreamier. You know the one; curious yet naive son of the English Riviera lands a job at one of London’s leading record stores and discovers the masters of Chicago house and Detroit techno. Later, stumbling around Berlin, his primitive attempts to emulate the sound of his newfound heroes accidentally land him a bona fide dance floor hit. A gradual but steady stream of EPs courtesy of Dutch dance music powerhouse Dekmantel have allowed his productions to blossom in richer, smoother directions. On 2015’s ‘In Gold’ EP, and throughout the following year’s ‘High Point on Low Ground’, halcyon hallmarks of house - euphoric piano lines, bubbling acid and luminescent keys - are shot through with Donaldson’s tough, distinctive percussion.
It’s that same connection with Dekmantel that has encouraged Donaldson to quickly evolve as a DJ. A memorable performance at Dekmantel’s flagship Amsterdam festival in 2015 captured open hearts, lost minds and aching feet. Since then, the sound of Palms Trax has been a fixture on their enormous main stage, drifting seamlessly between vintage house, esoteric disco and the various shades of a bubbling UK underground he has helped define. Occasional back-to-back performances with the likes of Hunee, Young Marco, and Midland, all DJs regularly credited for their breadth of musical knowledge and versatility, speak volumes for Donaldson’s DJing nous, which has lead him on an international trail; from South America to Australia, and from Panorama Bar to Concrete, Contact, and De School.
JayMe
JayMe is one of the most respected figures in the local scene as the founder of Acadana, both an underground club in the New Territories and a music collective that has organized nights at 宀 along with Colleen Murphy and Hunee. Acadana’s program focuses on music in its purest form and heartfelt clubbing experiences. JayMe himself is of that, he is a real music enthusiast holding an impressive collection of 4,000 vinyls at home, one of the few guys who can play everything with a very versatile style.
He grew up in the 70’s witnessing the disco boom first hand. He kept his love collecting records and going to parties for more than 30 years. Began DJing from 2013 alongside his medical career, earning the title “the Disco Doctor”. Started his own Loft style private club in 2015 called Acadana (literally means Party without a care) which has become the most cherished place amongst all underground DJs. Dabbled into Techno territory in 2017 playing at Teknival, Social Room and other HK locations.
Regardless of the genre he’s playing, JayMe is still deeply rooted in old skool NYC style with just one resident DJ for the whole night, à la Larry Levan or Junior Vasquez. He wants to build things up slowly. He wants you to put your expectations at home. Dropping pop music in the middle of some dark Techno without killing the vibe. He wants to tell you a story, in his own unique musical language, with the most unforgettable plot twists.
