  • Loraine James

Loraine James is a producer who uses a minimalist setup and unbound creativity, she utilises IDM glitch aesthetics with an improvisational, jazz-rooted spirit and a unique talent for integrating her diverse influences into cohesive and emotive pieces. Hailing from Enfield, North London, adventurous producer Loraine James is a rising voice in the electronic music community. Taking piano lessons as a child and growing up listening to a wide range of genres has instilled a voracious musical curiosity in her that resonates throughout her productions. While classes at college, and later on Westminster University’s Commercial Music course, facilitated her encounter with the basic tools for digital production, her approach is closer to DIY culture than formal training. Often expressing her love for IDM, her intricate, highly intuitive and emotional tracks, composed used minimal, easily-available setup, and openly queer identity stand in direct opposition with the genre’s traditionally male, white and gear-fetishising intellectualism. James’s music is at once abrasive and vulnerable, a powerful dichotomy used to fuse together the many disparate elements from London’s sound universe which she integrates into her music, moulding grime, R&B, jazz and ambient into novel sonic creations with an instinct for improvisation. In 2017, her self-released debut album Detail caught the ear of many music aficionados, but 2019’s sophomore For You And I LP on Hyperdub would make her a breakthrough star, receiving unanimous acclaim from peers, fans and critics at the likes of Crack, DJ Mag, The Quietus, Mixmag and Pitchfork. On Nothing EP, her second Hyperdub release, she explores new directions with a diverse group of international collaborators including Uruguayan producer Lila Tirando a Violeta, Jonnine Standish of Australian duo HTRK and Iranian-British rapper Tardast. by Andra Nikolayi

The 3 artists bring their unique styles together to form a new vision of harder, faster, experimental dance music: rhythm heavy and drenched in emotive and visceral musical forms. Their unique individual projects already being strongly defined and established provide a powerful foundation which multiplies and combines the trio to form a truly powerful combination of flavours, an experience like no other. The project cuts its teeth closing the renowned Modular Gang/Oscillate parties, culminating in a debut live album (“great fucking success”) released in late 2019. From there they went on to play for 8 hours in Säule (Berghain) for CTM Festival followed by a quick dash to Mutabor in Moscow before lockdown. Resurfacing for recent closings at Mjut and Hard Trade/Funkhaus, 3Ddancer has proven to be a truly living, breathing entity in its own right that continues to grow and reinterpret itself. ̸ SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY -great fucking success (Live Album - November 2019) -OUT NOW!!!! • Al Burro

Al Burro (London) first got interested in electronica back in 1994 when he first heard Jeff Mills’ Transmission 1. Drawn to the futuristic soundscape, he and a friend bought their first set of belt-driven decks back in 1995 and this began a longstanding affair with techno. After annoying the neighbours for a couple of years, they decided to branch out and start annoying people at private parties and smaller venues, and annoy them they did. But, with practice and time came a more well-rounded sound; after which, he took a 5-year sabbatical from DJing and took his turn on the dance floors around the world. Al Burro is equally at home in industrial warehouses as in ambient pastures. He is a firm believer in variations on a common theme: It's about the mood not the genre. He has held residencies at Korner in Taipei and Delta in Hong Kong. Al Burro (London) first got interested in electronica back in 1994 when he first heard Jeff Mills’ Transmission 1. When next Al stopped travelling long enough to make owning musical equipment logistically possible, Al discovered a more mature sound. The Detroit Soul and Motown roots remained, but added to this was a drive for a more worldly sound and an appreciation of other forms of music including jazz, hip hop, swing, house and too many more to mention. Al cites as some of his influences: Gilles Peterson, Ninja Tunes, Mr Scruff, DJ Food, Jurassic 5, Radiohead, Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Derrick May, UR and the list goes on.

  • Alex Krell

Tractor-driving, mud-spattered Alex Krell is a Lithuanian producer riding a new wave of deep and dark techno. Alex Krell makes techno. He is also a petrolhead who lists Queen, Nirvana and Led Zeppelin as his influences, and he loves driving a tractor in the tiny Lithuanian village where he spends a lot of time. This impossibly bizarre background gives Alex Krell’s productions a uniquely dark and earthy energy that makes his techno stand out from the crowd of sterile Berlin copycats. The stadium-rock influence drives Alex’s melodic and emotional approach to chord sequences and arrangements, hip-hop provides a sense of swagger, and driving a tractor all day apparently makes you choose pounding, powerful, relentless beats at night. Techno is Alex Krell’s second love. He cannot live without motorsport, on four wheels or two wheels, but preferably loud and dirty. Normally techno wouldn’t be a suitable soundtrack for an extreme sports video, but Alex pours adrenalin, euphoria and danger into his music, making it fit perfectly on the Wipeout soundtrack, or Grand Theft Auto. When he’s not reading magazines about combustion engines, Alex is in the studio tuning synthesizers and firing up four-cylinder kickdrums. The retro flavours of his rock and rave influences are blended with some kind of weird chemical found only in his native Lithuanian water. Alex Krell invites you to drink a bottle of it and see what happens. ̸ SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY Alex Krell - Parallel Seduction Alex Krell - Optyx Alex Krell - Knocturne Alex Krell - Hypnopace Pindrops - Dive (Alex Krell remix) Alex Krell - Contacts Jaroška - How Do You Call It (Alex Krell remix) Alex Krell - Nightmare At Lizdas Pindrops - Reflection II (Alex Krell Punk Version) Alex Krell - Pashilan Kid Without Letters - Eternal Sweep (Alex Krell remix)

  • Avalon Emerson

Avalon Emerson is from the desert. While she currently lives in Berlin, the music she produces comes from the dreamlike expanse and abstract textures of the Sonoran landscapes of Arizona. Her journey has taken her from that sunbaked state to the contemporary dance music mecca via a long stint in San Francisco, where she cut her teeth as a DJ in the city's storied warehouse party scene. In her DJ sets and productions now, she offers a timeless narrative that reflects a passion for the sound design of new wave, the futurism of techno, the soul of American house and the exuberance of rave. Though she's built up steam in 2015 from multiple sets at Panorama Bar, and globetrotting all around Europe and North America, she's just getting started, and continues to outdo herself with original productions released on labels like Shtum, Spring Theory, Icee Hot, and her own DJ tool edit pool, the Cybernedits series.

  • Clarisa Kimskii

̸BIOGRAPHY DJ/Producer Merge/ L.A.G. Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Clarisa Kimskii has cemented her musical footprint on the borough since moving back in 2022. Through a palpable blend of psychedelic and driving techno, Clarisa’s approach to the genre is deeply idiosyncratic - an assemblage of both timeless and modern grooves. As a producer, Clarisa has contributed to a handful of respected labels (Monday Off, Dusk & Haze, Mysteries of the Deep, etc.) within her sonic niche, but it’s through her own label L.A.G where the ethos of her sound truly takes form - a detailed variation of propulsive and atmospheric soundscapes. Clarisa is deeply rooted in the techno subculture’s underground, and in early 2022 - the 20+ year veteran was named resident DJ of the Brooklyn-based, queer party Merge. Through her residency at Merge and regular appearances at the city’s premiere institutions in BASEMENT and Nowadays, Clarisa’s prestige is undeniably felt. Her pure, yet passionate approach to DJing has graced the decks of memorable nights at international institutions in Tresor, About Blank, Output, Griessmuehle, and at notably iconic parties in Wrecked, Club Toilet, and The Bunker NY. Recent festival appearances at Taiwan’s Organik Festival and North America’s Honcho Campout and Sustain-Release have only elevated her reputation as a force within those respective communities. The saga continues with juicy bits on the horizon.

̸BIOGRAPHY The essence of Dame Area – the project of Barcelona-based duo Silvia Kostance and Viktor L. Crux – is formidable, volatile, unpredictable. During the last years Dame Area developed a unique music style recognized as "Tribal Wave": mixing synth bassline arpeggios and live percussions, noises and congas, industrialism and tribalism, Italian and Spanish, Dame Area are running across the same path and breathing the same air of the EBM/Industrial driven Diseño Corbusier or the drum compositions of Roberto De Simone Across two albums and several EPs for the likes of Mannequin Records, B.F.E Records and their own cult imprint / DIY organization Màgia Roja (described by The Quietus as “a place unlike any other in Spain, perhaps any other on earth”), Dame Area have executed an eclectic, discerning form of contemporary industrial music, deploying compulsive minimal synth and primal polyrhythms, as well as uniquely reconstrued elements of post-punk & EBM. An artistic identity that embraces influence yet eschews compromise. Starting to play live in 2018 they have toured extensively in Europe, sometimes also in a trio format with Jess Webb from Gnod/Anthroprophh at drums.

  • Elena Colombi

London-based DJ, promoter and NTS radio host. Boss at Osàre! Editions. Many DJs claim to be champions of free-spirited eclecticism, but few truly break boundaries or swerve convention. Step forward Elena Colombi, a DJ and radio host whose inspired sets are not only open-minded and mind-altering, but also seek to toy with the emotions of listeners and dancers via shifts in intensity, tone, light and shadow. Her distinctive approach is truly unique, in part thanks to a widescreen grasp of different musical cultures, sounds and rhythms, born out of travelling the world with her family from a young age. This nomadic approach is something that Colombi still embraces. After ten years living in London and making her mark in the city’s electronic music underground and a brief relocation to Brussels, the artist is now based in Amsterdam, where she can be found contributing to the vital local scene whilst focusing on her new label, Osàre! Editions. Launched in the summer of 2019, the imprint was inspired by the Italian translation of ‘daring’ or ‘bold’. In keeping with Colombi’s approach to DJing, the label will provide a home for future-facing music shot through with forward-thinking experimentation and abandon, and imbued with a sense of complete freedom, transcending expectations of time or genre. This approach is a neat fit with her musical style, which taps into a wide range of influences and inspirations old and new. Since she began her journey through DJ culture, the Italian artist has prioritised energy and emotion over form and function, paying particular attention to obscure and undiscovered artists. While ‘anything goes’ is undoubtedly her mantra, her dynamic sets are perfectly balanced with the kind of effortless flow that many DJs fail to master with a lifetime of practice. As well as documenting her far-reaching taste via her monthly NTS shows, Elena has contributed outstanding mixes for FACT and Crack Magazine, Beats In Space, Intergalactic FM, Digital Tsunami and Dekmantel, where she also took part in a live discussion with John Talabot on the Art of DJing, a panel that was recorded by Resident Advisor and later broadcast as part of the RA Exchange podcast series. On the festival circuit she’s made appearances at Dekmantel, Club To Club, Nuits Sonores, ADE, Unsound and more, together with an annual residency for the boutique UK festival Field Maneuvers and a quarterly curated night at Belgrade’s Club Drugstore. Her outsider-led approach also gained recognition from the established art world, going back-to-back with homegrown Manchester legend Jon K at the Whitworth Art Gallery (a feat repeated at Atonal in Berlin), as well as bringing her selections to the Tate Modern in London for the Tate Lates series. The different strands of Colombi’s DJ career are almost as diverse and otherworldly as her on-point selections, a reflection of her ability to translate her vast music knowledge and sets to differing environments. Yet it’s in clubs that her celebrated talents hit home hardest.

̸BIOGRAPHY Boss woman behind POLAAR label, Flore is an essential artist on the french electronic music scene. Pionner in the leftfield bass music field, she has just released a second album RITUALS, acclaimed on BBC radio 1 & 6, Mixmag, Tsugi and Trax Magazine... Propelled by curiosity and meticulosity through the last two decades, Flore built her musical journey guided by risk and a generous creativity.
If her musical and cultural roots go back to jamaican sound systems, breaks and drum and bass, her musical culture and tastes cover a wider territory that ranges from Pink Floyd to Sun O))). This constant interest for new forms and sounds stands behind her path as the live artist she is now, from DJ through producer to being the first woman Ableton certified trainer in France. As a DJ, she brought her explosive sets to numerous european clubs, venues and festivals such as Les Nuits Sonores, Fabric, Fusion Festival. Her Boiler Room set is memorable. Flore is a DJ renowned for the energy of the sets, the rowdiness she brings to the dancefloor and her ability to communicate with the public. Her work capacity and diverse skills led her to collaborate with other artists in various contexts such as with Arandel at La Philarmonie de Paris in 2018 for an exclusive creation for the prestigious institution, working with theater directors and dancers. Crown on top of an already rich collections of gems, she is the boss lady of POLAAR, one of the most exciting musical label of these last years in France. Flore has become a true master at tailoring her sound, often with a sense of anticipation of what was in sight on the electronic music scene : from “Raw “ (2010, Botchit & Scarper) predicting the global bass phenomenon to “Rituals” her second album (2020, POLAAR) cruising on a futuristic and personal interpretation of techno and breaks in all their various forms. • Gramrcy

Gramrcy is a British-born DJ and producer currently living in Berlin. His productions draw elements from the UK’s rich rave history while pushing a resolutely forward-facing sound. EPs on cult UK labels Ancient Monarchy and FTD established a restless, anything-goes approach to music-making, while a recent collaboration with Hodge on the Singapore-based label Midnight Shift displayed a tougher and more upfront side. This approach extends through to his DJ sets – a fluid and stylistically diverse selection that skilfully weaves between genres and eras while maintaining at its heart a fun and carefree approach to dance music. Well received mixes for Crack Magazine, Boiler Room, Uncanny Valley and Ceramics (which Thump named their No.1 mix of 2015), as well as numerous guest slots on NTS and Rinse FM have cemented his reputation as a thrilling and diverse DJ, as comfortable with well-considered warm-up slots as he is playing peak time sets. 2019 saw him become joint label-owner of Peach Discs – the label started in 2016 by long-time friend Shanti Celeste. As well as running the longstanding Housework parties in Bristol and Berlin alongside Shanti, Golesworthy and Daisy Moon, he’s played a number of well-respected clubs, venues and festivals across Europe, including ://about blank and Tresor in Berlin, Simple Things Festival in Bristol and London’s Dance Tunnel, while his latest EP on GlassTalk Records continues to mark out Gramrcy as a producer to keep an eye on.

As one of Europe’s most wanted underground weapons, Héctor Oaks style stands out for playing the unexpected and the highly engaging. As DJ, producer and label head his take on techno resonates by combining the contemporary with hand-picked tracks from the history of rave culture. Héctor Oaks has been behind the turntables for almost half of his life. Gaining his first credits in Madrid's underground, it was when he relocated to Berlin, that his DJing really took off. Not long after his move to the German capital, the trained sound engineer released his first vinyl releases on KEY VINYL. This kick-start into the fertile soils of Berlin’s underground lay the foundation of a career, that has taken off internationally in the past years. It’s the dancefloors that taught this DJ his outstanding empathy and intuition for the sounds, that make a crowd vibrate. Constant practice and the dedication to music shaped his style. Known for his stamina and mixing skills, it is his selection that truly stands out. What seems eclectic on the first sight, is a well-curated mix of vinyl gems. Héctor Oaks seeks for the sweet spot between tracks that are connected not by genre but vibe and style. As vinyl-only DJ, his selection thrives on Oaks’ passion for digging in record shops all around the world. Not to mention the years in Berlin ́s infamous Record Loft, that served the local scene with an outstandingly broad selection of 2nd hand vinyl. When in the mood for a proper rave, you will find Oaks playing under his alias Cadency. The moniker is home to the more explorative side of genres: breaks, ghetto, oomphy grooves and a pinch of funk. As Oaks’s calls it: techno body music gone pop. Cadency’s appearances are rare, so catch them while they’re hot.

̸BIOGRAPHY Istanbul Ghetto Club is a music-driven multidisciplinary collective, combining delightful Anatolian, Greek and Mesopotamian tunes with modular synthesizer and performing arts, always with a sense of humor and an erotic touch. One night Kamil was working in a Pavyon in Istanbul. Pavyons are live music bars in which traditional Turkish folk music is played, usually with the bağlama. Men come to Pavyons to swim in different oceans. While Kamil was playing Bağlama, Mahmut came into the bar. With his outward appearance, his lighter skin color, he didn't seem to fit in. Actually Mahmut just wanted to ask for directions, but then, because people started looking at him strangely, he felt offended. He thought to himself, "I live here too, why can't I come to this bar and have fun like everyone else?” Somehow Mahmut and some of the other guests started to discuss. It had started to escalate more and more, and Kamil saw how people had started to push him. So Kamil stopped playing and ran to help him. The crowd was so heated up that they started hitting Kamil and Mahmut. In the end, they threw both of them out of the bar. Kamil's Bağlama was destroyed and Mahmut's nose was broken. To cool down, they went to have some Çorba. At the restaurant, Mahmut told Kamil that he makes electronic music. While eating and talking they planned to start a project together with Bağlama and modular synthesizer: something like a tasty Çorba. ̸SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY Istanbul Ghetto Club - Hamam Dreaming (Single)

̸BIOGRAPHY Sound artist, live performer, DJ and independent researcher in sonic and media cultures. Mariachiara Troianiello, the Milan-based sound artist behind the moniker Katatonic Silentio, works at the crossroads of electronic music, performing arts and sound studies. Both as a live performer and an independent researcher, she seeks to bridge different spheres and approaches to sonic production. Active as a DJ for more than 15 years, her sets adopt multiple forms, fluctuating between an analogue past and a technological, fast-paced future. At times, her sets focus on pure abstraction, consisting of ethereal soundscapes that seek to transcend the tangible through a mix of musique concrète, world, spoken word, ambient or dub. At others, they come across as concrete and club-oriented, crossing techno, broken beats or drum n bass. Mariachiara views sound as a critical tool and has a genuine interest in exploring sonic possibilities and practices from both artistic and sociological perspectives. As an independent researcher, she is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of USMARADIO: Interdepartmental Research Centre for Radiophonic Studies at the University of San Marino. In her undergraduate thesis in 2015, Mariachiara looked at the different notions of radio and broadcasting between underground and mainstream and the multiple performative possibilities of the medium itself – a topic she currently puts into practice through her project Expanded Radio Research Unit. As of now, she holds radio residencies on EOS and LYL. Mariachiara also collaborates with Anonima/Luci, a light art collective with whom she develops installations that reconfigure architectural spaces by combining light and sound. Together with choreographer and dancer Olimpia Fortuni, she performs „X“, an ongoing compositional study that draws on sound, movement and space. ̸SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY - EOS Compilation 01 / EOS Radio, 2022 - Pho Beat Bazar Vol. 2 / PHO BHO, 2022 - Freefloat Remixes / Worst Records, 2022 - Paradisia Vol. ∞ / Gangs of Ducks, 2021 - NOOD5 / Noods Radio, 2021 - Club Winston Remixes / Club Winston, 2021 - Tabula Rasa / llian Tape, 2021 - Alkisah II / MAKA – The Alkisah Reworks Divisi Italia / ArteTetra, 2021 - Prisoner Of The Self / Remixed / Bristol NormCore, 2021 - Bittissue / Biodiversità Records, 2020 - Prisoner Of The Self / Bristol NormCore, 2020 - Dis/Continuum / Mother’s Finest Compilation / Mother’s Finest, 2020 - Grains / Self-released, 2020 - VVAA Forever / Haunter Records, 2019 - Emotional Gun / Cyberspeak Music, 2019 - Roland System-1 / One Instrument Records, 2017

̸BIOGRAPHY Every day since 1982 From obtuse angles to intense physicality, Peder Mannerfelt’s highly individual take on techno demands attention and consideration. While his many-sided body of work reaches back more than a decade, the Swedish producer’s current investigations in the field of experimental dance music are as prolific as they are unpredictable. After a series of albums as Roll The Dice alongside Malcolm Pardon, he lent his production skills to Fever Ray’s acclaimed debut album and 2017’s Plunge and is currently busy exploring a new strain of techno-pop together with Pär Grindvik as Aasthma. Working under his own name Mannerfelt’s sonic imprint can be most acutely felt. Accompanying appearances on Voam, Hinge Finger, Numbers and more, he established his own label Peder Mannerfelt Produktions to carry the bulk of his output, and that of kindred spirits such as Klara Lewis, Code Walk and Sissel Wincent. Peder Mannerfelt music is always rooted in the kinetic energy of techno even as it seeks to break down the genre’s rigid, illusory formulae.

Unconventional and single-minded to say the least ( what label can boast a back catalogue free of the industry standard cash cow remix ) by decentralising the focus on the dj/producer personality, he remains one of the more highly regarded creative forces within the British techno/electronic scene. Like liquid mercury in a petri dish—slick, supple, and playfully disobedient—Rhyw’s music dazzles as it defies expectation. The Welsh-Greek artist cut his teeth as one half of Cassegrain and has been finding new paths for his mutant sound ever since, releasing on Fever AM, the imprint he set up with Mor Elian in 2017, as well as labels like Avian and Modeselektor’s SSPB. In the studio or behind the decks, he brilliantly fuses different strains of ultra-modern techno and broken beat: eyes-down minimal lights up with modular sass, choppy kicks flirt with rolling grooves, and sharp sound design slices through earthy subs. It’s the kind of amphibious sound that can slip into otherworldly spaces while never truly leaving the dance floor. Rhyw turned heads with the heavyweight two-tracker ‘Biggest Bully’ in 2019, earning himself sets at Berghain, Berlin Atonal, Boiler Room Tokyo and Freerotation amongst others. Online and on-air, he’s guested on Hessle Audio’s Rinse FM show and Mixmag’s ‘In Session’ mix series, and contributed podcasts to Crack and FACT. Even when they leave the gate at full pelt, these sets showcase Rhyw’s subtle sense of intricacy, balancing airy atmospheres against tougher tackle. But whatever the energy level, there’s always an alien presence in Rhyw’s sound—a shapeshifter whose twin motives are to bewitch and disorientate the listener.

Roe Deers employ all shades of love in his shows so that the only response you can give him is dance.

Sharp loneliness engraved layers of Justinas' subconscious, influenced ethereal sounds and emotions in his works. The monotony of S13 grows with confluent curves of atmospheres that expand in higher dimensional space. Combining intense chords and breathtaking bass lines Justinas transforms his music into a digital organism. Esoteric extended-play single "Yourself" reveals incomprehensible world of confusion. When electric synths and variable rhythmics mix with voices from beyond listeners finally reach the emancipation and deserved enlightenment. "Mono" is probably the most existential track of S13. Plastic basses, melancholic melodies and gloomy aura evoke a feeling of standing on the top of the colossal skyscraper with the rain falling and recalling eternal life memories. The meaning of Secret Thirteen flows from his intangible minds and a fatal number Thirteen which comes out at unexpected moments of life. • SCALPING

Scalping are a Bristol based live techno band. Blistering performances are known for astute production formed through a love their hometown’s visionary off-the-wall dance music as well as full throttle noise and punk. Starting in 2017, the band played live for two years, almost exclusively in Bristol, before releasing any music. Through their time in other bands, they hooked up with promoters they trusted and focused on doing fewer shows with better results. After a couple of years, Nick Berthoud was brought in, on guitar; a “fan first, member second” who was impressed by the developing live show and attuned to their conceptual frustration. “As a live band, your entire output is dependent on your equipment, but guitar music is historically always so far behind electronic music, and how that technology and the language around it can change the music itself”, says Rushforth. “The ideas that people try to push with guitar band technology are naturally limited. We’re taking elements of guitar culture, like distortion and smearing, and inserting them into the technology and language of electronic music. We’d seen bands try to do this before, but it always felt too ‘arty’, happy, or unstructured. We wanted to do it but make it heavy, and create focused, structured songs.” By sourcing band-centred equipment that pushes boundaries, they incorporate bass-amplifying techno elements into their repertoire. Rushforth’s bass guitar set-up comes with two octave pedals, subharmonic generators and two amps – “effectively bringing a soundsystem around with us” – to play basslines “one or two octaves lower” than a bass guitar traditionally can. Berthoud’s guitar is sidechained from Jones’s kick drum; “which everyone’s done in the studio for decades, but we found it difficult to find a single guitar pedal that would allow us to do it at gigs”, Berthoud says. Their curiosity and resourcefulness has paid off. Since forming, SCALPING have performed across the UK and Europe, at festivals such as Glastonbury, Visions, Green Man, Simple Things, Pitchfork Festival and End of the Road, and as support for Black Midi and Squarepusher. Live, the effect is immense. SCALPING play continuously for the duration of their sets, generating a storm of metal- and-techno through a rising beats-per-minute count; starting between 80-90bpm, ticking gradually up to 140bpm – and then, for maximum dynamic impact, dropping to 70bpm and playing in half-time. In the heat and darkness, it’s a swarm of low-end frequencies and ripping guitars, somewhere between Black Sabbath-esque psychedelica and The Bug’s sub-bass headfuckery. “Within each section of each song, we can push and pull it,” says Hill. “We have a setlist, and once we start playing we don’t stop…. we move through the various songs and tempos fairly seamlessly, and try to emulate the feel of watching a DJ.” As the coronavirus pandemic stopped SCALPING from playing together for over two years, their songwriting was transformed into a series of retro-fitting techniques that would leave most bands lost in an organisational fog. Their debut album, “Void”, out on Houndstooth this April, necessarily became a mammoth undertaking. “We wrote this whole album without playing a single note of it together,” says Hill. “We produced all of the songs using the computer – as a blend of recordings and samples of our live drums, guitars and drum machines into production software – and then translated it all back into a live performance. And although there are structured songs on the record, there’s no explicit focus on exactly recreating those songs live, either,” he continues. “Everything is adapted to work into a set that flows well. A lot of album parts are rewritten during rehearsals for the good of the live set as a whole.” On “Void”, SCALPING are heavy metal in 4D; the sound is moody, distorted and rhythmic, but the use of electronic techniques gives the finer details room to breathe. Their early lust for “all loudness, no nuance” has cooled, too, making more space for experimentation. Tracks such as “Tether”, featuring Oakland rapper DÆMON, puts a modern, metal twist on Bristolian trip-hop, whereas album closer “Remain in Stasis” features fast-rising artist Grove, a Bristol-based rapper and self- professed metalhead whose commanding presence sets the track alight. These songs also mark an additional new chapter for the band with the addition of vocals for the first time. ̸ SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY April 2022: Void (LP, Houndstooth) October 2021: Flood Remixed (EP, Houndstooth June 2021: Flood (EP, Houndstooth)

  • Solid Blake

̸BIOGRAPHY DJ and producer from Glasgow, operating via Berlin. There are DJs who can extend a single vibe over the course of a night – and then there’s “another way of doing things”, hints Solid Blake. You can guess which camp the Glasgow-born DJ falls in. Bringing the frozen pulse of electro together with dissident techno and bass from all eras, Emma Blake’s side-winding DJ sets and slick productions have made her a fixture of the European underground over the last half-decade, but after years away from home – first in her beloved Copenhagen and now in the techno bustle of Berlin – she’s emerging from her lockdown cocoon with a recalibrated approach. Drawing more and more from the sweatbox euphoria of her early rave days, the next phase of Solid Blake looks set to be shot in Technicolor. Solid Blake’s first original material, inspired by the pneumatics of classic electro and late-late-night acid techno, appeared on choice underground labels Seilscheibenpfeiler and Outer Zone, and she was quickly recognised for her production chops, joining the 2018 cohort of Red Bull Music Academy in Berlin and picking up a nomination for Best Breakthrough Producer from DJ Mag. More recently her output has included remixes for Pär Grindvik and Marc Acardipane, contributions to the Club Quarantäne and Herrensauna compilations, and a live-focused collaboration with CPH techno mainstay Ctrls under the banner Historical Repeater. Despite making her name in the techno-heavy zones of Mitteleuropa, over the years she’s felt the Glasgow influence growing stronger, as she’s pulled towards more eclectic selections and high-contrast blends. More risk equals more excitement – something she’s also discovered through her talent for playing back-to-back DJs like Skee Mask, Stenny and old friend Mama Snake. With new releases forthcoming, plus work on a brand new live show, Solid Blake is speeding towards a distinct new era in her life as an artist. The future can only get weirder.

  • Space Afrika

̸BIOGRAPHY Space Afrika With their slow-stepping, spacious urban dubscapes, Space Afrika harness ambient, Detroit techno and shades of early nineties Sheffield with a fresh and open approach to composition — this is dub techno stripped-down, sealed in a time capsule and sent back from the near future. Driving, echo-laden deep beats form the bed for a heavily subaquatic sound palette with undercurrents of cybernetic dread. Friends for almost 2 decades, the two Joshuas formed Space Afrika after years of listening to music together, sequestered by harsh Northern winters. Heavily inspired by the industrial architecture of Northwest England and notions of travel, their sonic framework evokes images of rust and disintegrating concrete, and sensations of movement and redemption — exuding a distorted analogue soul offering escape into their overcast skies. Closely associated with Brighton/London label, Where to Now?, who slink along a vintage axis of post-punk, On-U Sound, minimal and no wave influences, Space Afrika's diverse and creative radio shows (notably their residencies on NTS and Reform Radio) also display a breadth of curiosities in experimental and avant-garde music, old and new.

̸BIOGRAPHY Truth iz Kode. Traxx is a lover of music — one with a passion so intense that it overcomes genre divides to weave an altogether original, exciting, and multi-textured musical fabric which envelops both the avid clubber and the home listener, as well as everyone in between. Not content to be labeled as merely a DJ, a producer, or even a DJ/Producer, Traxx is a self-described “artist of sound.” A sound that is distinctive and highly emotional which defies classification and invites analysis and discussion. From eclectic and avant-garde tunes to old school jack tracks and far beyond, Traxx hears it all without discrimination, pretension or elitism. Traxx has released music on numerous underground labels in the US and Europe including Gigolo, Relief, Muzique, M/O/S, and Crème. His music has come to the world under a bucket load of alias' including Dirty Criminals, XX Art, Mysterio, ViLLan X, Saturn V(with Tadd Mullinix), X2, and more. He's also collaborated with the heads of underground to shape his unique definition of Jakbeat that's was created amongst JTC and D'Marc Cantu in the early years between 2005- 2007. In addition to releasing music for other imprints Traxx also started his own label Nation in April of 2007 which has allowed him to develop and recontextualize the various aspects of his sound. In 2009 Traxx stepped out into the light with his first full length 'Faith' album under his own name for his Chicago based imprint Nation which received positive response and feedback from around the globe. Like many in Chicago, Traxx was drawn into house music through the legendary WBMX radio shows and two trips to see Ron Hardy at the legendary Music Box. Describing his first experience with house, Traxx recalls "nothing could compare, things were being discovered.. this period stays with me because of the intense energy that was applied - it's a feeling, an emotion, a mental state of transcendental connection -a spiritual force with the higher being through the physical vessel of the body." His first release appeared on DJ Hell's Gigolo label in the early 00's under the collective alias The Dirty Criminals which was a Chicago based collective that featured mainly the work of working with collaborators like Charles Manier, Mystic Bill Torres, Daryl 'Deecoy' Cura, Matt Nee(Kompute), Josh Werner, Stephen Hitchell plus early on work from Jamal Moss aka Hieroglyphic Being. In addition to a number of 12"s Dirty Criminals released, two albums were very well received in Europe - 2004's "Organized Confuzion" and 2006's Collision Between Us And The Damned" which featured a cover of an early unreleased version of "Acid Tracks" by Phuture that was played around Chicago. Traxx also contributed vocals to the track "Let No Man Jack" on Hell's "NY Muscle" album on Gigolo but it's perhaps on his many mysterious 12"s that Traxx has set the ground work for in the last seven years where there's been a constant stream of them burning up dance floors with the new sound of Jakbeat that's shaping the scene by releasing an 'Adjustment Production' for Gavin Russom of DFA's LCD Soundsystem from 1 of his current alias projects as Mutant Beat Dance for a sombre tingling cosmic, deep disco brilliance concept, and also releasing with New York label Rong Records with another excellent 2 track release of 'Another World/New News Is Old News' to releasing a stunning solo project on MOS Deep Under The Poetic Painter M pseudonym, with a frenetic yet hypnotizing house track that echoes memories of downpitched Newbeat material and the hooky coldness of new age, following thru with incredible support and feedback in 2012 then again with another solid production from analog machinists Traxx and Wanzer for another Mutant Beat Dance release for the Rush Hour label with 'Let Me Go' featuring Naughty Wood on vocals that have said that they produced arguably 'the best 80s Chicago house record NOT made in the 80s. -inspired by the early days of house music- In an age of digital perfection Traxx is analog, when he DJs he plays vinyl and when he's in the studio he uses hardware. VHS Library of Acid The philosophy of VHS Library lies somewhere between sluggishly rolling tapes and the crackling of meticulously dug vinyls. Roads and Eimantas are the librarians, who choose the path of detective classics by staying in the shadows of the party, taking the directing role for the mood on the dancefloor.

  • Vladas Dieninis

Vladas Dieninis is a drummer, percussionist and multidisciplinary artist working in the fields of sound art, theater, dance and cinema productions. The most recent solo output from Vladas balances his talent to combine electronic percussionist techniques with multilayered soundscapes. His performances are improvisatory rituals where hazy ambience meets oriental rhythmic ornaments. The hypnotic effect of motorik patterns here intertwines with free-floating soundscapes with delay effects. The minimalist means here are employed for a maximalist as sometimes you get overwhelmed by the vast array of sound coming from just one person on stage.

  • Wata Igarashi

̸BIOGRAPHY Wata Igarashi has developed a clear sound of his own. He brings together the euphoric and psychedelic, with his music standing out for its crystalline structures and shimmering intensity. Igarashi’s distinctive take on techno is on display across a series of EPs on Midgar and The Bunker NY, as well as on Semantica, Time to Express, and Bitta. Recent standout remixes of Aurora Halal, Volte-Face and Prins Thomas have further demonstrated his considerable talents as a producer. The same mentality is present in his performances, whether DJing or playing live, with his measured control of frequencies and intensities shaping the dancefloor as he explores the more psychedelic dimensions of techno. In this way, Igarashi’s considered approach is one that stimulates the body and mind, generating energy and emotion. Wata Igarashiは独自のサウンドを確立したアーティストだ。緻密なサウンドデザインや構成力を持ち、陶酔感とサイケデリックさを融合させたIgarashi特有のテクノは、MidgarやThe Bunker NYの一連のEPやSemantica、Time to Express、 Bittaのリリースで聴く事ができる。 ̸ SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY 2016 Stealth 2/3: Night [Time to Express] NNN08: Death Orange [Semantica] Ciphers EP [Midgar] Haziest Just Before The Dawn [Bitta] Semantica10. With roots from Taiwan and Japan, Yoshi Nori cut his teeth as a DJ in Chicago around 2003. Not only was he heavily influenced by raw Chicago house sound, combination of minimal side of neo-Detroit, and renaissance of early 2000 post-punk movement shaped as foundation for his ever unpredictable DJ sets. Starting 2020 Yoshi Nori has launched a brand new label "禁 Jin". This project aims to not only introduce Taipei's local talents but also connect with secret gems in Asia's fast-rising production field while providing an injection of colorful international producer juice that can morph the various local elements into an unpredictable futuristic 4/4 sound, in a way foreshadowing what Asia is moving towards.

̸BIOGRAPHY Seven years after his viral single “Ima Read,” performer, songwriter and producer Zebra Katz returns to present his debut album, LESS IS MOOR. Seven years after his viral single “Ima Read,” performer, songwriter and producer Zebra Katz returns to present his debut album, LESS IS MOOR. Written and produced between Berlin and London, LESS IS MOOR features guest appearances by Shygirl and S. Ruston, with a myriad of star co-producers such as Sega Bodega, Tony Quattro, and fellow Red Bull Music Academy graduate, Torus. Amidst all this talent, there’s rarely a down moment on the album. Together, these tracks capture sides of Zebra Katz the world has yet to see and reveal his artistic versatility. His multiple inspirations are channelled into a series of high-energy bangers, all of which required years of collaboration to complete, a DIY attitude, and a commitment to a high concept without excess production. Recent singles “IN IN IN” and “LOUSY” are examples of Zebra Katz’ desire to repossess his narrative, exploring issues like the Black experience and sexuality, all the while mixing in devastating ruminations on the life of a star: “they all love when you dead / and you six underground.” LESS IS MOOR will have listeners on their heels, especially in moments that show Zebra Katz’s talent for improvisation and drawing on the moment. The freestyle on “ZAD DRUMZ” came about after an improvised session at Red Bull in Berlin with co-producer Torus. “INTRO” was made at a party loft in Berlin. The gabber-oriented sound reflected the chaotic sounds of the party below. “All I wanna do is keep the dance floor jumping,” sings Zebra Katz on “ISH,” the next single in line for release. “NECKLACE,” a guitar-strummed slow jam, is a rare moment of respite on an otherwise high-energy album. The very next track, “SLEEPN” jumps back in with a bubblegum beat and subversive lyrics: “blackface, war paint / throw a hex on ‘em.” “LICK IT N SPLIT” is the album’s sexy and high-spirited ending featuring Shygirl. Born Ojay Morgan, Zebra Katz, is a first-generation Jamaican-American born in West Palm Beach, Florida. Morgan’s artistic days began early: his senior thesis at the Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School found him premiering “Moor Contradictions,” a precursor to LESS IS MOOR that combined performance art with music at La Mama Theatre in 2007. Skip ahead to 2012, when the music world explodes over Zebra Katz’s sensational hit, “Ima Read.” Picked up by Diplo’s Mad Decent imprint Jeffree's, the track garnered further popularity when it ran for 11 minutes on a Rick Owens runway at Paris Fashion Week. The next five years found Zebra Katz touring nonstop in Europe and the United States, delivering memorable and genre-breaking live performances at venues like the Broad Museum in Los Angeles, the New Museum in New York, the Metropolitan Museum, MoMA PS1, Brooklyn Museum, and Art Basel in Switzerland. It was during this same period that Morgan released the mixtapes Champagne and DRKLNG; two EPS, Winter Titty and Nu Renegade, a collaboration with Leila Arab. Zebra Katz wanted to dive into production for LESS IS MOOR immediately after releasing Nu Renegade, but an exciting new opportunity took him away from the project: from 2017-2018, Zebra Katz joined the Gorillaz on their Humanz tour and was featured on the tracks, “Sex Murder Party,” “The Apprentice,” and “Out of Body,” which also featured Kilo Kish and Imani Vonsha. For years, Zebra Katz has been working as an independent and self-managed artist, thriving despite the lack of backing from a major label or a debut studio album. Now, with greater support behind him, LESS IS MOOR announces a deeper look into the sonic universe of Zebra Katz. The album stays true to the off-the-cuff way that Zebra Katz initially started to make music seven years ago but it finds the musician newly empowered and unafraid of being noise-driven, biting, caustic. Nor is he afraid to draw inspiration from diverse sources like Little Richard, Nina Simone, James Baldwin, and Grace Jones. Sexually charged and abrasive, LESS IS MOOR is a bold, sonic experiment that meshes industrial hip-hop with drum ‘n’ bass and unidentifiable sonic territory. Used as early as the Middle Ages, the word “moor” refers to the black Muslims of Northern Africa. Today it simply means black and is synonymous with “negro.” When Zebra Katz says “I’m that sick sadistic fucking twisted bitch” on “ZAD DRUMZ,” he’s wearing his darkness for all to see. If you listen hard enough, you can almost hear James Baldwin saying, “To be a Negro in this country and to be relatively conscious is to be in a rage almost all the time.” LESS IS MOOR lets you into this rage so you can dance with it.

̸BIOGRAPHY Ziúr is an experimental producer/musician and a fixture in Berlin's rich musical topography. Ziúr is an experimental producer/musician and a fixture in Berlin's rich musical topography. It seems as though she produces her releases in the way someone scoring a television series does, gathering and arranging their selections for each episode … isolating and apprehending definitive scenes and memorializing their ethos in song. Soundtracks, much like her release “Antifate”, guide the listener through radically different emotional states, yet somehow still offer an idea of what underpins a show's (or in this case an album's) particular hues. Ziúr produces music within such a scope, expansive, rich and diverse in texture. The sounds are simultaneously machinistic and deeply anthropomorphic, toying with mechanical isolation and the chaotic spectrum of human emotion. Unlike a soundtrack or score, there is no film to which one can turn to narrativize the music … there is only evocative sounds reaching from each song towards the cybernetic sublime. ̸SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY Blur - EP 2021 (Now Now) Antifate - Album 2021 (Pan) Now Now - EP 2021 (Now Now) Are We? - EP 2020 (Self Released) ATØ - Album 2019 (Planet Mu) Isn't No Place And All Places The Same Place - Mixtape 2019 (Self Released) U Feel Anything? - Album 2017 (Planet Mu) Deeform - EP 2016 (Objects Limited) Taiga - EP 2016 (Infinite Machine)
