about
You can tell when Nick Warren’s on the decks. The music emanating from the DJ booth is that perfect club mix of driving percussion and soaring musicality, bursting out of the speakers, soaking everyone in melody, drenching them in sound. Warren’s impressive career has seen him release a staggering eight albums for Global Underground, take control of A&R for record label Hope Recordings as well as being a member of the highly acclaimed duo Way Out West. Starting as DJ with Massive Attack via superclub Cream and in fact every self respecting club on the planet has led him to this natural position as one of the world’s most respected DJs. His story began over two decades ago, when he began DJ-ing playing mainly reggae and indie before discovering in what genre his true passion lay – that of house music. While working at a record store in 1994, he met fellow Bristolian producer Jody Wisternoff. They immediately began working together and released two records under the name Echo, with Way Out West being the name of their remix project. However, the duo soon adopted Way Out West as their primary name and they were quickly snapped up by Deconstruction Records. Throughout the 1990’sWarren also had a full DJ schedule and a residency at the esteemed Liverpool club Cream. Is association with Global underground began in 1997, when he was given the opportunity to mix the second entry in the still young series, resulting in Global Underground 003: Prague. Way Out West were also going from strength to strength during this time, after signing a three-album contract with Distinct’ive Records. Their most recent release has been long awaited fourth album, titled “We Love Machine,” which landed to rave reviews in October 2009. Nick continues to play out every weekend on every continent, whils also maintaining Hope Recording’s high quality output that they and Warren himself have become synonymous with.
