  • AGY3NA

̸BIOGRAPHY ✨🧑🏿‍🦱✨ AGY3NA grew up in Nürnberg, a city in Bavaria, Germany. At a young age, he first got in touch with music through different ensembles, where he played both baritone and percussion. Ignited by his early endeavors into Berlin’s gay nightlife, he began DJing at local clubs and bars. He soon started to perform regularly back home in Nürnberg, while also curating and organizing concerts and parties as part of an independent promoter collective. By mixing music from different genres and decades, AGY3NA often creates a feeling of nostalgia on the dancefloor, while always keeping his focus on playful rhythms and uplifting transitions. When he stands behind the decks, AGY3NA connects to his own feelings of freedom on the dancefloor. His music selection gravitates towards spacey, explorative, and rhythm-focused House and Electro. Afrofuturism, an aesthetic that explores the intersection of African culture and futuristic icons, plays a leading role in his artistic work. It not only connects his intrinsic urge for experimentation with his artistic expression, but also links it with his identity as a black man growing up in Germany. His projects are a result of the frictions related to this intersectional identity, which creates a unique narrative that cannot be ignored when listening to his music. After finishing his first degree in psychology, AGY3NA moved to Berlin to pursue a masters in cognitive science, while finetuning his DJing skills. Two years later, he moved to Leipzig, where he currently parallels his music projects with his research interests.

  • Budino

̸BIOGRAPHY Music Lover For some DJs, music will forever be in the foreground of their mind; every free moment is spent searching for new music or conceiving ways to blend new discoveries. Italian born Budino is one of these DJs, hers is a constant quest for fresh material to weave in her sets – sets that exist in clubbers minds as glorious psychedelic tapestries sewn from dark trance-inducing beats, tribal percussion and rich cosmic textures. Given this dedication and dexterity it’s unsurprising that praise is heaped so readily on Budino’s sets. After moving to Berlin and playing throughout the city since the age of eighteen, she was soon co-running the party series Oscillator at the now defunct and much lamented iconic club Griessmühle, along with its sister vinyl only label. She soon became a mainstay behind the decks at the infamous institution of queer hedonism that is Cocktail d’Amore and has since held a residency there for many years. With a diligence to seek out the perfect music for every moment, Budino has spent many years honing her craft creating unique edits that breathe versatility into the music she has dug deep to find. This often means when you hear her play, it may well be the only moment ever in which will you ever hear that version. However, a handful of these edits have seen the light of day on New York vinyl label JustWhatTheWorldNeeds. Budino has also been responsible for curating the fourth edition of Love International festival’s compilation series ‘The Sound of Love International’’. It reflects her interpretation of the ideal soundtrack for an endless and idyllic day into the night on the beaches of Tisno on the Adriatic coast, nodding to her comprehensive taste as a selector. With her enthusiasm, devotion and impeccable ear for music, Budino continues to go from strength to strength as a DJ and has plenty more of her passion to share with dance floors around the world.

Byron Yeates is a DJ, producer and runs the record label Radiant Records and co-founder of La Noche. Byron Yeates is a Berlin-based DJ and producer, founder of record label Radiant Records, and co-founder of La Noche. He has served his signature sound at Panorama Bar, Tresor, and Horoom and holds a bimonthly residency at Berlin’s Refuge Radio. Yeates’ sets are inflected with an attitude that can at once be incredibly playful and theatrically sincere, a duality that animates the queer lineage of electronic dance music in which Yeates places himself. Since November 2019, Yeates’ label Radiant Records has released an array of EPs by artists both locally and abroad. The catalogue is filled with floor-ready cuts that also reward a close listener – the RR sound is rich with unexpected timbres and textures, clever melodic lines and rhythms pivoting far off the 4/4. https://www.discogs.com/release/23492633-Byron-Yeates-Sweat-Ur-Prayers https://www.discogs.com/release/24747425-Byron-Yeates-Roza-Terenzi-D-Tiffany-Split-Step https://www.discogs.com/release/24414536-Various-Tiny-Planet-Vol-4 https://www.discogs.com/release/28816894-Various-Orbital-Vibrations https://www.discogs.com/release/26592803-Kasra-V-Hyperdelic https://www.discogs.com/release/28783057-Eoin-DJ-Fantasi

  • Cormac

Primed to become an ‘overnight success’ in a similar way all overnight successes break-through; following many years of hard-work, Cormac is currently one of dance music’s best-kept secrets. With a rapidly growing reputation as a revered selector, the Northern Ireland born DJ is setting a course for dancefloors the world over with his sound that comprises the breadth of the house and techno spectrum, but with one defining characteristic; always records that touch the inner sanctum of the human spirit. Since he began collecting music as a teenager near Belfast, his journey has been singularly driven by the discovery of amazing sounds, and his humble role in the constantly renewed potential for dancefloor transcendence. Having traded in an all-too-quiet rural Irish life for the hedonism and high times of a very different London in the early 00s, Cormac was a regular dancer at zeitgeist defining institutions such as Trash, Nag Nag Nag and Bugged Out.

  • Efdemin

Efdemin is a mainstay of techno's days and nights. Berliner by choice he holds a residency at Berghain and operates his label naïf. Calm, cool and collected, Efdemin’s music is infused by elegant darkness, discreet beauty and the complete lack of jittery. With LPs and 12-inches for Dial, Curle and Ostgut Ton, his remixes (e.g. Depeche Mode), his Pigon project together with RNDM or his drone and ambient pieces under his original name Phillip Sollmann for instance, Efdemin is equally at home in very different circles. In the world of art as much as in the techno realm, and while moving from intelligent pop quotes into the universe of Sun Ra, he does the splits effortlessly and without overstretching it. A sonic thesaurus like his second album Chicago finds his place in Efdemin’s body of work as well as the stripped down funk of “Just A Track”, the urgency of “Acid Bells” or the straightforwardness of “Bergwein”. Going well along with all those gestures and desires is his own Label naïf. Accordingly named and vinyl only, it’s his outlet to release music from friends and allies that is close to his heart. http://ostgut.de/booking/artist/efdemin/discography

  • Gabrielle Kwarteng

New York-born DJ and Lot Radio resident Gabrielle Kwarteng is on a steady, slow-burning rise upward. Her guest shows won her a Mixcloud Online Radio Award and a regular slot, which garnered her a loyal following and led to bookings across NY and beyond. Gabrielle Kwarteng’s journey so far is one of passion, dedication and the occasional strike of fate. Born and raised in New York, Kwarteng’s name has recently risen in prominence throughout a challenging time for dance music and club culture. A DJ, radio host and curator, her sets have recently enchanted Panorama Bar in Berlin (four times in less than twelve months, no less), equally vital club spaces such as NYC’s Nowadays and Manchester’s own White Hotel, as well as a span of festivals including Love International, Glastonbury, Melt and Dekmantel Selectors. Listening to Kwarteng, whether in a cavernous rave hall, a sweat-soaked underground club or making intimate selections on the radio, is an experience that feels at once familiar but always energizing. Kwarteng’s diverse taste and open-mindedness lead first, allowing her to fluidly slip through a mix of heady 80s and 90s NY house, disco interpretations that traverse diaspora and eras, percussive passages alongside boldly broken beats and, as the lights get lower, an undeniable acid undercurrent. In an era of everything at once, Kwarteng weaves stories for the dancefloor that often look to the past, but always focus on possible futures. Kwarteng arrived at this position via a mixture of study and circumstance. Born in Brooklyn to Ghanaian parents but raised in the Bronx, her childhood was soundtracked by a mix of first-wave Highlife, Afrobeat and disco. Outside her front door, in a thriving neighborhood of diverse American experiences, entire sounds and scenes expanded and exploded as pop-culture began to mutate in new ways, both online and off. Crossing to Manhattan for school, the tempo changed entirely as rock, hip hop and experimental music filled Kwarteng’s ears while she studied intensely. Her academic focus was paramount, but Kwarteng couldn’t help but drift back towards the beat. First, from sciences to arts, where, at an esteemed upstate New York university, her dedication to trawling music blogs rendered Kwarteng the de facto DJ for house parties. She also began broadcasting on college radio; her daybreak show was a particular hit with professors arriving to work early to mark before lectures. Bouncing back to New York, Kwarteng continued to present a show on the burgeoning online radio station The Lot. In 2017, she was presented with the Mixcloud Online Radio Award for Best Eclectic Show, an early and completely unexpected acknowledgement of an instinct for music that traversed genre expectations. In parallel, Kwarteng played each and every Saturday night in the majestic ballroom of the SoHo Grand, amassing vinyl for a residency that helped define the uptown musical scene with her own downtown sensibilities. Now based in Europe, Kwarteng continues to criss-cross not only genres, but continents. Overcoming her inherent introversion to nervously approach Giles Peterson at a record store in Paris proved fortuitous; so impressed was the storied DJ by Kwarteng’s show on local station Le Mellotron, he invited her to appear at his own festival, Worldwide. Appearances at suitably open-minded spaces in Madrid, London, Bristol, Copenhagen and Kyiv soon followed. Wherever she performs, Kwarteng’s expertise serves to not only continue the championing of Black American genres such as house, techno and disco, but equally, to explore the continuum of global dance music as a whole. Having laid the foundations for a unique musical journey, it’s a level of respect that’s tangible on any dancefloor. In these increasingly sacred spaces, Gabrielle Kwarteng’s personal passion translates into collective ecstasy. The dig continues.

Gerd Janson runs the Running Back label, and DJs around the world under the name Gerd Janson. Gerd Janson is running the German label Running Back together with Thorsten Scheu (aka Glance). As many kids who have grown up in the early 90s in the South West of Germany, Gerd Janson was a regular guest at Mannheim’s legendary Milk Club. Although this venue was most popular for putting jungle on the map in Germany, Gerd always used to wait eagerly for the early morning hours when the pace slowed down and US styled house was the ruling sound. In the following years, his deep love for house and disco music was fed in Frankfurt’s Wild Pitch Club by Heiko MSO and Ata. In 1998, Gerd Janson finally had his first DJ residency at Darmstadt’s Café Kesselhaus.

  • Jenny Cara

Jenny Cara’s sets oscillate between blithe and cheerful sounds, driven by the dynamic influences of UK soundculture. Still, the human dynamo doesn’t let herself be put into a box. Based in Zurich, the Swiss DJ first touched base with electronic music early on when she launched out into the club scene of Lucerne, where her musical education began. Even though her grades in school suffered, her endeavors brought her to become a booker and later manager of Zurich’s Club Zukunft. Jenny Cara’s energetic spirit taps into all different fields of her work, leading her to co-found the project eXchange, which revolves around creating access for BIPoC FLINTAs into the realms of DJing and music production and reducing discriminatory structures. Her selection oscillates between blithe and cheerful sounds, driven by the dynamic influences of UK soundculture. Still the human dynamo doesn’t let herself be put into a box. Her intersectional approach centers community, history, joy and accessibility, all the while not forgetting the importance of a good House banger. The attentive ear might have witnessed one of her appearances at notable places like Panorama Bar, DeSchool, Robert Johnson, C12 or Club Zukunft.

  • Palms Trax

Palms Trax is a producer and Dj based in Berlin, Germany. His first record was released in October of 2013 on London-based imprint Lobster Theremin. For aspiring DJs and producers, or indeed anyone who appreciates a good story, the genesis of Palms Trax couldn’t have read any dreamier. You know the one; curious yet naive son of the English Riviera lands a job at one of London’s leading record stores and discovers the masters of Chicago house and Detroit techno. Later, stumbling around Berlin, his primitive attempts to emulate the sound of his newfound heroes accidentally land him a bona fide dance floor hit. A gradual but steady stream of EPs courtesy of Dutch dance music powerhouse Dekmantel have allowed his productions to blossom in richer, smoother directions. On 2015’s ‘In Gold’ EP, and throughout the following year’s ‘High Point on Low Ground’, halcyon hallmarks of house - euphoric piano lines, bubbling acid and luminescent keys - are shot through with Donaldson’s tough, distinctive percussion. It’s that same connection with Dekmantel that has encouraged Donaldson to quickly, impressively evolve as a DJ of some distinctive taste and talent. A memorable performance at Dekmantel’s flagship Amsterdam festival in 2015 captured open hearts, lost minds and aching feet. Since then, the sound of Palms Trax has been a fixture on their enormous main stage, drifting seamlessly between vintage house, esoteric disco and the various shades of a bubbling UK underground he has helped define. Occasional back-to-back performances with the likes of Hunee, Young Marco, Antal and Midland, all DJs regularly credited for their breadth of musical knowledge and sheer versatility, speak volumes for Donaldson’s DJing nous, which has lead him on an international trail; from South America to Australia, and from Panorama Bar to Concrete, Contact, De School, and Lux. Donaldson has also-amassed a patient, open-minded following with his cult monthly radio show, the decidedly less-than-culinary ‘Cooking with Palms Trax’, broadcast on Berlin Community Radio since 2015. On each show, Donaldson takes a deep, vinyl-led drive into his adopted history, fostering a level of trust and shared curiosity that has allowed him to helm all-night sets under the ‘Cooking with Palms Trax’ moniker. Into 2018, he’ll be holding down residencies in Boston, Glasgow and Bordeaux, as well as inviting like-minded DJs into his metaphorical kitchen, throughout a series of self-curated evenings into early mornings of music.

̸BIOGRAPHY Like liquid mercury in a petri dish—slick, supple, and playfully disobedient—Rhyw’s music dazzles as it defies expectation. Like liquid mercury in a petri dish—slick, supple, and playfully disobedient—Rhyw’s music dazzles as it defies expectation. The Welsh-Greek artist cut his teeth as one half of Cassegrain and has been finding new paths for his mutant sound ever since, releasing on Fever AM, the imprint he set up with Mor Elian in 2017, as well as labels like Avian and Modeselektor’s SSPB. In the studio or behind the decks, he brilliantly fuses different strains of ultra-modern techno and broken beat: eyes-down minimal lights up with modular sass, choppy kicks flirt with rolling grooves, and sharp sound design slices through earthy subs. It’s the kind of amphibious sound that can slip into otherworldly spaces while never truly leaving the dance floor. Rhyw turned heads with the heavyweight two-tracker ‘Biggest Bully’ in 2019, earning himself sets at Berghain, Berlin Atonal, Boiler Room Tokyo and Freerotation amongst others. Online and on-air, he’s guested on Hessle Audio’s Rinse FM show and Mixmag’s ‘In Session’ mix series, and contributed podcasts to Crack and FACT. Even when they leave the gate at full pelt, these sets showcase Rhyw’s subtle sense of intricacy, balancing airy atmospheres against tougher tackle. But whatever the energy level, there’s always an alien presence in Rhyw’s sound—a shapeshifter whose twin motives are to bewitch and disorientate the listener.

  • Vince_Leo Küchle

vince alias Leo Küchler is one of those restless souls who blazes bright in times depicted by a constant overdrive of pragmatism and functionality. This young, passionate and rebellious boy challenges mediocrity by always making the effort to walk the extra mile in everything he approaches. No wonder, his DJ sets will take you on a ride, far from jumping on an express train, throughout the mysterious jungles dance music culture has to offer. Though always having an eye for the dancer, he still makes use of the spectrum made up of disco, house, techno and even pop from left to right and everything in between. You might call it wild style, he nonetheless manages to combine everything, track by track, soulfully and gently into an exciting and enthralling story, that will catch your breath and suck you into his very own definition of a perfect night out. “What you give is what you get”, they say, and in Leo’s case this has proven to be true again. In his former hometown Munich, he stood out by his efforts to fight for realness and an awareness of the past and present, thereby defining the very future of the culture he invests in with all he has got. After his long-time residency night “Vicious Circle”, formerly based in the once notorious Bob Beaman club, he and his colleagues decided to explore new territory with Blitz Music Club, where he holds a residency in, without any doubt, one of the most ambitious clubs in Europe. After moving to Vienna, Leo hesitantly got involved in the local scene. But becoming part of the Lighthouse Festival family (former crew of renowned club Pratersauna) definitely set the ball rolling for him. For the music lover and scene aficionado he is, being co-responsible now for the musical program of Lighthouse Festival Croatia and South Africa is like another dream coming true. Love comes from the heart and so does Leo’s music. Once he’s in control over the booth, he stirs the starship technically perfectly executed from the beginning of the night till the very end of the afterhours, always full of the emotions that will take us all the way down and up there again. Once you let him take you by his hand, you will never want to let go again.

Amsterdam based DJ and producer that also runs his Safe Trip label. There was a time when Marco Sterk a.k.a. Young Marco’s talents as a DJ and producer were among Amsterdam’s best-kept secrets. For well over a decade, he plied his trade, largely unheralded, on the city’s underground dance music scene. It was here, via several now infamous residencies, that he learnt his craft, gaining a reputation for ballsy, genre-defying eclecticism, playing sets that joined the dots between everything from tropical rhythms, afro gems and quirky Middle Eastern disco, to lost proto-house, throbbing techno and industrial-strength jack-tracks. These days, the Dutchman’s talents are widely known around the World. His position as a crate digger, record collector and infamous party-starter now guarantees a packed schedule of gigs in Europe, North America and beyond. His passion for working a dancefloor with “strange music” and “unclassics” is renowned, and it’s this that makes his sets so special. This humid, off-kilter obsession with the inspired and unusual has become a hallmark of Marco’s music, too. Once a key part of the Rush Hour family – the legendary Amsterdam label releasing a number of his early singles – in 2011 he made his debut on Lovefingers’ highly regarded ESP Institute label. His first two EPs for the label set out his now-trademark style, and won support from the likes of Dixon and James Murphy, amongst others, along the way. It’s perhaps unsurprising that a string of remix requests followed, leading to now classic reworks for the likes of Heatsick, Joakim, Francis Bebey and Soft Rocks. His 2013 remix of Tony G’s “Dreams”, a killer chunk of blissful new age deep house, became one of the most in-demand and sought after records of that year. At the tail end of 2015, the best of these remixes were gathered together on Sorry For The Late Reply, the first release on Marco’s freshly minted Safe Trip imprint. 2014 saw the release of his most accomplished studio work to date, the superb debut album Biology on ESP Institute. Wonderfully picturesque, melodious, humid and glassy-eyed, it received rave reviews and confirmed his status as one of electronic music’s truly unique voices. The same year also saw the release of Clouds, a magical collaborative fulllength written and produced in a weekend with Italian ambient pioneer Gigi Masin and British artist Jonny Nash. Credited to Gaussian Curve and released by Amsterdam’s Music From Memory label, it was the unfeasibly beautiful sound of three like-minded musicians working towards a shared goal. In 2017, Marco is as busy as ever. He’ll be hitting the road April onwards with Gaussian Curve for a handful of live dates around the world in support of their second album The Distance, while his contribution to Dekmantel’s series of crate-digging compilations, Selectors, is due to hit in March. His own label – Safe Trip – will be picking up steam with a string of releases that explore electronic music in many different directions. As usual, you’ll also find him spreading his love of weird, wonderful and eccentric music in basements, warehouses and clubs the world over.
