  • Jesse Calosso

Jesse Calosso spent the early years of his life in the Bronx. The bustling streets would always brim with many musical forms, from hip hop to reggaeton, house to salsa. Endlessly diverse and rich with culture and colour, those early experiences made an indelible mark which means that today, Calosso is stylistically impossible to pin down. He can do Chicago tinged house, driving techno drums and everything in between, all tied together with his love of dangerously infectious basslines.

This diversity of sound and an unrestricted approach in the studio has quickly lead Calosso to the top. Always keeping an open mind when recording, he begins with impromptu jams and goes wherever the music takes him. So far that has been to some of the best labels in the game - Cuttin' Headz, Hot Creations, and Tuskegee, the first of which very much announced his arrival and picked up critical acclaim and widespread support from key players.

  • Ricardo Villalobos

As far back as the early '90s, Ricardo Villalobos began building an impressive discography of 12" releases on respected dance labels like Playhouse and Perlon, and around the turn of the decade he was one of the most revered producers and DJs in dance music. In his youth, the Chilean-born Villalobos moved with his family to Germany in order to avoid the military dictatorship of Pinochet, and he eventually fell in with the country's fertile house community. A minimalist at heart, he trotted the globe to study percussion in order to apply his knowledge to his productions, which almost always sound remarkably expansive despite their simplicity. In addition to his own solo material, he has recorded with fellow expatriate Dandy Jack as Ric y Martin and with Luciano as Sense Club; additionally, he has taken part in Markus Nikolai's Hombre Ojo project. ~ AllMusic

Beneath their feet, a stone world rests against the living world, touching rivers, mountains, forest floors and the first foot trails between Schwarzwald, Vosges Mountains and Naturpark Pfälzerwald. This stone world is made of smooth subterranean rock that swirls and folds. Altered from its original igneous by pressures a hundred thousand years strong. What was once sharp is now smooth. Some artists are content earning the label of “overnight sensation,” while others patiently rely on hard work, dedication, and perseverance to earn the title of... “everlasting sensation.” The latter is unquestionably the case for enigmatic Toronto native producer/DJ, Carlo Lio. Originally known for leading the pack of prodigiously talented Toronto producers, Carlo has utilized his trademark cosmic house and techno sound to cement his status among today’s prodigiously talented world-renowned producers. For proof, look no further than his remix of the ‘Diablo’ track on Cocoon Recordings. One of the greatest rewards an artist can receive is to be recognized by his musical heroes, and an even greater honor occurs when those heroes ask you to remix for them. Such was the case for Carlo when Dubfire and Oliver Huntemann approached him to remix ‘Diablo’. Without hesitation, Carlo accepted this project and the resulting track not only topped the charts, but it manifested Carlo’s personal dreams in a single shot. Ever since, Carlo’s discography has exploded, with his music catching the eyes and ears of some of the biggest labels in the market – SCI+TEC, Bedrock Records, MOOD, Desolat, Suara, Intec Digital, and Mindshake Records just to name a few. And in the coming months, Lio will be releasing remixes and collaboration projects for Mathew Dear (aka Audion), DJ Sneak, Paul Ritch, Carl Cox, and Nicole Moudaber. Mystery and ambiguity have long been established strategies through which artists can ensure focus remain on their music; for e/tape, who’s originally from Slovenia but spent his last decade between the Balearic Islands and the rest of the planet, it is just his level of commitment to sound. e/tape is a project built on the kind of uniqueness that only arises from a lifetime fulled by a desire to expand his inner self, the outcome is his way of inviting other's to join on these expanded states of consciousness. To speak broadly, his work could be described as ambient music, though the associations with the heavenly and blissful that this term creates are lost somewhere on the line. Expect your preconceptions about the importance of pulse, tempo and other western musical basics to evaporate in as subtle and rewarding a fashion as possible; his music will likely sound alien to even the most open-minded listener, therein lies his appeal.

  • LUCIANO

In the beginning, DJs were faceless human jukeboxes that played at the whim of their audience. When dance culture boomed DJs became superstars, and fame and ego replaced the love of the music. Luciano represents a third way: he is both a single-minded artist completely devoted to music and a performer whose charisma is an intrinsic part of his global appeal. Luciano fuses art and fame like no other DJ. As a result, the humble, Swiss-Chilean DJ, producer and boss of Cadenza Records is one of the biggest stars of the global electronic music scene. Born in Switzerland and raised in Santiago, Luciano fell under the spell of Detroit heroes like Juan Atkins and Model 500.

Mickey Zhang (Zhang Ran) is a godfather of Chinese dance music. His massive 20 year career spans DJing, producing, sound tracking, and numerous album releases. Taken together, he has become an ambassador for China’s burgeoning electronic music scene. So where did he come from? Well, most people outside of China wouldn't know the inland Chinese province of Ningxia, but that’s where young Mickey was grew up. His artistic family was the ideal launch pad into the Beijing Dance Academy at age 11. A dance background may not be the norm for electronic music producers, but if you think about it, it makes perfect sense for China’s premier dance music DJ.As his career took off, Mickey went on to set many “firsts” in China’s growing electronic music scene: the 1st Chinese artist to perform at Berlin’s legendary Tresor club, the first to play at Sonar in Spain, MIDEM in Cannes, Wire in Japan; and the first to release an original electronic album in China itself..

The Neverdogs is a story about talent and passion which began in 2000 in Florence when Tommy Paone met Marco De Gregorio: two DJs originally from Catanzaro who had begun their careers separately in the early 90s. The pairing quickly became a rising act of note, touring their native Italy and featuring across a host of the country’s most notable clubs, including Cocorico (Rimini), Tenax (Florence) and Docshow (Bologna) to name just a few. 2002 marked an introduction into the world of production after meeting Davide Roberto aka Fortyseven, an artist they still collaborate with to this day, welcoming early support from the likes of Satoshi Tomiie and Steve Lawler. In winter of 2005, renowned institution The Egg invited them to become residents, proving to be the initial catalyst in a long-standing relationship with London that still stands firm to this day, and establishing themselves as core members of city’s nightlife scene.

It would be wrong to start talking about where Ouissam comes from – after a decade in Asia, he’s now something of a regional entity that has managed to change the dance music scene wherever he has laid down roots. His approach to a dance floor is as simple as it is intuitive and elegant: nothing that can make a room shudder with joy is barred from his selections. As the founder of Hong Kong’s Cliche Records, he was one of the first in that city to cultivate a disco-house-techno synthesis that shifted the understanding of what could be danced to there. He went on to create the magnetic Homesick and Fragrant Harbour labels, before suddenly setting his sights on Hanoi in Vietnam, where he has established the dance mecca Savage where he runs the monthly queer night Snug. A born entertainer with a burning desire to play music to people around the world, Sam Divine’s enigmatic sets are an effortless schooling in pure, unadulterated house. • Skream

London-based producer/DJ Skream (Ollie Jones) played a vital role in the development and popularity of dubstep during the 2000s. Following early collaborations with fellow genre pioneers Benga and Loefah, he released one of dubstep's most easily recognizable tracks, "Midnight Request Line," in 2005. His tracks and remixes helped shift the genre from being a darker, more minimalist form of club music to something more melodic and accessible, paving the way for its mainstream popularity by the beginning of the 2010s. Skream's biggest commercial success was his involvement as part of dubstep supergroup Magnetic Man (with Benga and Artwork), whose self-titled debut album reached number one on the U.K. dance chart. However, while primarily associated with dubstep, Skream has never limited himself to one genre, and much of his work since the mid-2010s has explored house and techno. ~ AllMusic

Yaya grows up in Torino, in the resonant Babylon of his home, where the rhythms of his father’s, singer and leading voice of the ensemble M’bamina, drums prophesied a multi-ethnic Italy. It is when at the age of 17 he purchases a pair of decks, that his blood’s rhythm takes an electronic turmoil driving him to house music: Yaya begins then playing at clubs and parties of the flourished techno-house scene of Turin. Sound engineering or sound design or sound in art - every step of a sonic journey through the life is about that. Dance electronic music scene waves from the very beginning of 90s till now in one click can be compressed and extracted into a confident yet quiet eccentric personal style. It was a minimal school to inspire and empower his sound production which gained its individual place on such imprints as Nervmusic and Arma. But continuous relationship with music pushes the limits of artistic expression down to eclectic approach especially when talking about records selection. Lately it was an experimental zone - an attempt to deconstruct the genre features and elaborate plastic sonic environment within a vinyl bag. Quirky tech-house with breakbeat next to electro hinge injected with elegant acid drops united by a peculiar artistic taste.
