about
Andrew John Clarke is a British DJ and record producer and is co-founder of RAM Records, a pioneering label in the drum and bass genre. Andy C was a DJ in his own right but gained a strong reputation and more bookings off the back of the successful "Valley of the Shadows" track, an early drum and bass track that walked the line perfectly between hardcore and drum and bass just as the genres were starting to split.

The track, created and released by Origin Unknown (made up of Andy C and Ant Miles)—often referred to as "31 Seconds" or "Long Dark Tunnel" because of the samples it incorporates—made use of a heavy bassline, bell samples and a rolling drum track to produce a popular, easy to recognise track that was easy to mix and became a favourite in dance floors at raves across the UK and beyond. The track was released as an EP in 1993[7] and has been remixed and re-released several times, and is widely recognised as one of the most influential drums and bass tunes of the early 90s.

  • AFROJACK

Grammy award winning DJ and producer, Afrojack, is one of most notable and iconic names in electronic dance music (EDM) today. At only 26 years old he has made a large impact on the music industry and is a key player in the worldwide explosion and popularity of EDM. Afrojack is adept at shifting between genres and playing with his sound and it’s easy to see why his skills are some of the most sought after in the world.,Starting off in his hometown of Spijkenisse, Nick van de Wall aka Afrojack, quickly made a name for himself with a slew of hard-hitting underground releases, before exploding on the music scene in 2011 with the release of ‘Take Over Control’ - an instant worldwide club and chart hit the single reached platinum status in the U.S. Afrojack then went onto develop his own imprint in the production world with his label ‘Wall Recordings’ – a platform by which other passionate EDM artists could grow. He also wanted his label to retain the ‘club music’ brand, something he strives for with every Afrojack release. 2011 also saw Afrojack sign a landmark deal to become one of the first ever DJ’s to sign an annual residency in Las Vegas, at the legendary Wynn Hotel. The residency saw Afrojack perform over a dozen times a year at Wynn clubs including Encore Beach Club, Surrender, Tryst and XS.,From there the success continued; as well as making club hits and collaborating with the likes of David Guetta (co-writing and producing the worldwide smash ‘Titanium’), he also began to team up with and write for A-list pop artists around the world, including Madonna and Chris Brown. In 2011, he co-wrote and produced ‘Give Me Everything’ for Pitbull and Ne-Yo, which to this day has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide and reached #1 in the US Billboard Hot 100 Charts. The same year he headlined both EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival) NY & Las Vegas to over 300,000 people, as well as UMF (Ultra Music Festival) in Miami, Tomorrowland (in Belgium) and Coachella (LA) in addition a colossal 40 city ‘Jacked’ tour of the United States, all packed into 2012.,Last year got off to a monumental start when Afrojack signed an exclusive worldwide deal with Island Def Jam, Island UK and Universal Music Group. The deal saw Afrojack’s talent be recognized and supported by the renowned music label. The first project from the partnership was ‘The Spark’, a single that fused EDM and pop and showed a new sound for Afrojack as an artist. The year continued to be another huge one for Afrojack. For his fourth consecutive year he returned to headline Creamfields and at the Ultra Music Festival and Tomorrowworld, he debuted his own ‘Jacked’ stage showcasing his Wall artists. He also found time to shoot a documentary web-series, ‘March of the Afrojack’, which gave fans an insight into the real person behind the Afrojack moniker. The series was released on the Rolling Stone website and saw Nick share many intimate moments and thoughts from his journey on the road along with his personal mantra “If I can do it, you can do it too.”,In late 2013 Afrojack made history as he became the first DJ to ring the closing bell at NASDAQ Stock Market Exchange in New York, as electronic dance company, SFX, went public. This also came in the same week as Afrojack cemented his hands into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the second DJ to ever do this and in doing so reinforced his position as a global music icon.,2014 is set to be another milestone year for Afrojack as he releases his second single ‘Ten Feet Tall’, starts a new DJ residency at Las Vegas hotspot Hakkasan and releases his debut album with Island Records. This spring he returns to Miami as headliner on the Ultra Music Festival and to give his loyal fans a first taste and preview of his highly anticipated album set for release this May.,Given Afrojack’s immense popularity and influence on the music industry it is no surprise that many corporate brands have flocked to him for brand partnerships. Afrojack recently announced a partnership with globally celebrated fashion label ‘G-Star Raw’ for his own line of Afrojack inspired designs that will be sold worldwide. He was also sought out by leading gaming company, Razer, to be a brand consultant on the development of future products. Further, this January saw Nick’s latest single, ‘Ten Feet Tall’, premiere as a part of Bud Light’s new commercial during the Superbowl.,Afrojack has built a global brand that is recognized for influencing attitudes and championing new levels of change for the music world. It is clear from his exponential growth that there is no stopping him and at only 26 years old this is just the beginning…

As a result of this they started to spend more time on tracks and one day they got contacted by DJ’s United Records. From now on they were not bedroom producers anymore, but professional producers doing what they do best, making music.,After massive releases such as Angeli Domini, Da Bomba Whatevah, Get Mad and with the help of some unofficial remixes, they had found a sound of their own. Their passion for the 8bit sound is also recognized in several of their tracks.,In 2009 they started to be well recognized DJs as well. Their first official gig was for the newly started hard dance party organizer “Hardstyle DNA”. While enjoying their residency and spending more and more time in the studio; their fan base was rapidly expanding. Da Tweekaz are not only combining their DJ skills but also their personalities, so be sure to enjoy a full DJ set complemented with humor while dancing to their beats.,In 2010 Da Tweekaz rapidly expanded across the borders. Their big dream of international fame became true when Dirty Workz approached them to join their family of producers. • GARETH EMERY

To say Gareth Emery has had a good year would be a vast understatement. Over the past twelve months, the popularity and buzz surrounding the young Brit reached explosive proportions, culminating in him being voted no.9 in 2009’s definitive DJ Mag Top 100 poll: one of only a handful of DJs to crack the world’s top ten before the age of 30.,Was this down to producing pure club anthems like Exposure and Metropolis alongside stunning remixes for Armin Van Buuren and Above & Beyond, all of which led to him spending more time at the top of Beatport’s trance chart than any other artist in ‘09? Maybe it was the launch of his new Garuda label and club night, responsible for selling out Manchesters iconic Sankeys club four times in a row whilst releasing his critically acclaimed compilation ‘The Sound Of Garuda’. Or perhaps it was the sheer amount of people he played to, banking half a million air miles travelling to over one hundred gigs at some of the world’s finest clubs and festivals. Whatever the reason, one thing is for certain: he’s on fire like never before.,Of course, what seems like ‘overnight’ success is usually the result of years of hard work, and Gareth Emery is no exception. He started learning the piano at 4, and whilst he’d completed his classical music training before he’d finished school, his real interest lay elsewhere, initially in guitar-based sounds. This was the UK in the mid-90s with Britpop and indie the order of the day, although as one might expect, Emery was no slouch, following the footsteps of Green Day and Oasis by headlining Southampton’s legendary Joiners venue at the age of just 15 with his band at the time. But it was a chance trip to Ibiza in 1998 that opened his eyes to the appeal of dance music, and after spending the next three years learning to make music with computers and midi, rather than guitars and pianos, he wrote his first electronic classic: the seminal ‘Mistral’, famously made whilst on holiday in France on a £500 laptop. Plenty more were to come.,These days, his records (which are composed, produced, and engineered entirely by him), span the worlds of trance, progressive, electro, techno, and a few other places. Languid, spacey grooves, juddering basslines and original melodies that take your breath away mean that it’s a given that Armin, Tiesto, Oakenfold, and Judge Jules have all been fully paid-up members of the Emery fan club for years. But more importantly, he’s firmly established as one of those rare producers who values quality over quantity, preferring to make five amazing records in a year then twenty average ones, and even happily refusing to release a track if it doesn’t feel “just right”, to the occasional frustration of his fans. It’s this uncompromising attitude, that drive for something unattainably perfect, that has made him one of the most sought-after producers and remixers on the planet.,But if there’s one place where he’s even more at home than in his studio, it’s behind the decks, where he’s morphed into the consummate superstar DJ, unequivocally demolishing dancefloors the world over. From global superclubs like Zouk in Singapore and Guvernment in Toronto, to epic festivals like Global Gathering, Trance Energy and Dance Valley, to the mega-brands like Ministry of Sound and Godskitchen, the utterly unique, instantly recognisable Emery sound continues to pack out more clubs, in more places across the world, than ever before.,The rise of Gareth Emery to dance music’s Premier league has been untraditional in almost every sense, and looking at his career, one gets the feeling he almost likes being the underdog. In 2009, when he was advised against launching his Garuda club night in the midst of one of the harshest recessions in living memory, he went ahead regardless, going on to totally sell-out every Garuda party that year. He also chose the road less travelled in 2006, when he turned down numerous offers from established radio stations to instead experiment with a virtually unknown format known as podcasting. It was a gamble that paid off, as four years and 100 episodes later, The Gareth Emery Podcast is now one of the most popular and influential dance music downloads in the world, with Emery’s famously diverse track selection and charismatic broadcasting style resulting in TGEP being nominated for ‘Best Podcast’ at the Miami Winter Music Conference IDMA Awards three years running.,Having also eschewed the lure of corporate major labels since the beginning, (almost all of his singles have been released on his own imprints), he’s living proof that you can amass a truly global following with little more than the power of the internet and some outstanding music. With millions of viewers on YouTube and legions of fans on Facebook, Twitter and Myspace, he’s a modern artist in every sense of the word; one with his finger truly on the pulse of the globalised, digitised planet we now inhabit. He sums it up in a recent interview: “At the start, there was no helping hand: I had no record deal, no money, and no idea about how to make my way in the music business. Basically I was just a kid from Southampton, who was making half-decent music on some very cheap equipment, and told people to check it out. The rest just sort of happened”. Inspirational stuff for talented kids everywhere.,With a list of achievements already far surpassing most DJs ten years his senior, Gareth Emery could easily sit back and be content with his lot, but you get the feeling that won’t be happening. After seeing his Garuda brand become the hottest label and club night launch in recent years (the quantity of Garuda t-shirts you now see at Emery gigs is testament to that), his plans for the next year are firmly rooted in the studio, where he’s determined to finally finish his long-anticipated artist album. “2009 was really all about Garuda. I started the year without a real home for my music, and now I’ve got one – as well as our Manchester residency which really was the surprise success of the year. But whilst Garuda has some amazing releases and nights lined up for 2010, for me, the next year’s all about finishing my album. I’ve been promising it since 2006, and whilst making a LP is undoubtably challenging when you spend half of your life abroad touring, I’m determined to put everything aside to finally nail it this year”.,At just 29, Gareth Emery’s well on the way to conquering the electronic music world, and if he finally cracks that artist album, he might just do it. Whatever happens though, 2010’s set to be a big one, as the worldwide Garuda massive eagerly await to see what’s coming next from this uniquely talented artist. We can’t wait – see you on the dancefloor.

  • HEADHUNTERZ

Willem Rebergen, better known as Headhunterz, kicked off his DJ career in 2003. That year, a friend gave him a ticket to Qlimax, and it was love at first sight. Discovering hardstyle music and its dedicated scene changed his life. From that moment on, he committed himself to becoming the best producer in the hardstyle genre. He locked himself up in his tiny bedroom studio, in the attic of his parents’ house in Veenendaal, and quickly learned the ropes of producing. Unaware of the revolution he would start, the foundations of the Headhunterz sound were made. Headhunterz’ new take on Hardstyle music made the genre grow into an international phenomenon. It was no longer just the sound of European raves, but became something worldly. Headhunterz made new audiences fall in love with the unstoppable energy of Hardstyle music. 7 years after visiting his very first hardstyle party he was on top of his career, with each new track captivating both his fanbase and artists outside the scene.

Since forming in 2012, Leftwing & Kody have gone on to become two of the UK’s finest exports. Both Mixmag and DJ Mag named them as ones to watch a mere year after they paired up, with DJ Mag even nominating them for ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ in their Best of British Awards. Since then the duo has gone on to present a monthly Rinse FM show, earn residencies at Fabric (London) and Sankeys (Ibiza), as well as releases on Hot Creations, VIVa, Truesoul, Mobilee and Knee Deep In Sound, as well as their own renowned imprint Lost Records. It’s fair to say Leftwing & Kody, real names Jon Kong and Chris Adie, have made it look easy, but it’s their determination and diligence that’s helped them prosper so rapidly in such a short time. Before long support from the upper echelons of house and techno quickly burgeoned, with Carl Cox, Jamie Jones, James Zabiela, Maya Jane Coles, Loco Dice, Steve Lawler, Adam Beyer, Nic Fanciulli and Huxley continually advocating their productions throughout the years.

  • SCOOTER

Of course, the band’s route to success was not quite as simple as frontman H.P. Baxxter describes. Scooter have indeed worked hard on their career and – we should not forget – they have now been in the business for over ten years. The former techno trio, who fought their way through the discotheques with “Hyper Hyper”, has developed into a serious band that now fills arenas with 80,000 people, has sold over ten million records and whose list of gold and platinum discs just seems to be endless.,Did anyone expect this back in 1994 when the band was formed in its original line-up? H.P. Baxxter, Rick J. Jordan, Ferris Bueller and, not least, manager and label boss Jens Thele started small: The trio’s debut “Hyper Hyper” went straight into the charts – and was immediately passed off as a one-hit wonder. However, the critics and journalists spoke far too soon. The follow-up hits like “Move Your Ass”, “Friends”, “Endless Summer”and “Back In The UK” were all just as successful. Anyone who believed that Scooter just wanted ride on the wave of their first hit were very wrong. Fun was and is the driving force behind the trio, by far more than the pressure to succeed and live up to expectations.,This explains the phenomenon of Scooter seeming to re-invent themselves for almost every single. Constantly combining styles that others would strictly separate, H.P., Rick and Ferris employ their unbelievable creativity with a healthy portion of humour and irony. The result is electronic ballads, eighties-style electro tracks, melancholic songs like “No Fate” or “She’s The Sun” and the legendary techno rock monster “Fire” (1997), which still sends H.P.’s “Flying V” guitar up in flames each night on stage. New member Axel Coon also felt this when he replaced Ferris Bueller in 1997, as did his successor Jay Frog, who is still a permanent member of the trio today.,All band members have their own special roles: H.P. still writes all of the lyrics while Rick and Jay are busy with the playbacks in the studio. To keep Scooter’s hand in club scene, Jay has taken over the role of DJ and also mixes a set for the Kontor Radio Show every other week. Jens Thele, the man behind the scenes, is responsible for anything to do with organisation and Logistics. He is also the one to ensure the band gets back on track after any disputes.,If it wasn’t for this work distribution, Scooter would very probably not be where they are today. Twenty-eight singles and thirteen albums clearly show that Scooter are a lot more than just a project. All critics and doubters will have had to admit that by now too.,Scooter’s new single “Shake That!” sees the band take a brave step by placing H.P.’s shouts over pumping disco house music. This courage has also already been rewarded: “Shake That!” entered the charts at number eight – incidentally making it their seventh Top Ten entry in succession!,Scooter are now about to bring out their fourteenth album. And “Mind The Gap” has many new features to offer: The album will be sold in three different price categories for the first time. In addition to the basic version, which just consists of the simple disc (EUR 9.99), there is also a regular version (EUR 14.99) with a booklet, bonus tracks, video, a making of, photos and interview, as well as a deluxe edition (EUR18.99). The latter contains all the features of the regular version plus a bonus CD with eleven live tracks from the “We Like It Loud Tour 2004”.

They were also awarded Best Breakthrough DJs at the Drum & Bass Arena awards. A great way to cap off a successful year, and more recognition of Cam and Joe’s hard work and dedication to their craft.,With a new decade now here Sigma are intent on leaving their indelible mark etched permanently on the scene. Kicking off 2010 with Shut The Lights Off with Adam F and hip hop legend Redman, this is followed by their debut release for Breakbeat Kaos… The Stand Tall EP. Consisting of four tracks, it’s Sigma quality and Diversity all the way through. From the dancefloor stylings of Original Sin’s remix of Front To Back and brain thumping anthem The Jungle to the more melodic vibes on Baltimore and the vocodered vox on Stronger, The Stand Tall EP covers all bases. Confirmation of this is shown by the fact three of the EPs four tracks feature on the Ministry of Sound compilation CD entitled Mixed…. By DJ Friction, along with Paint It Black VIP. To add to all of this is the exciting collaboration with BBK head honcho and D&B legend DJ Fresh on Cylon. An unadulterated stomper of the highest order, Cylon, supported by the likes of Andy C and Goldie, is the lead track from Fresh’s latest long player Kryptonite.,What else to look forward to from Sigma? Utilising this wide reaching medium as a platform to further showcase their and other artists talents, previous guests include Goldie, Original Sin, DJ Fresh, IC3 and The Nextmen. • SUB FOCUS

With several tracks to his name all made in the space of the last twelve months 2004 has been a massive year for Nick aka Sub Focus: the year has seen him breakthrough in unprecedented fashion armed with the likes of the technically astounding “Acid Test”, the simple yet devastatingly effective “Strobe”, the lively “Get on Up” and the altoghether awesome “X-Ray”. In a matter of months, he has gone from being one of many wannabe producers to become a permanent fixture of the award winning Ram Records family. Artists like Sub Focus are what “Best Breakthrough Producer” awards are made for.,Even though Nick has been obsessed with dance music, both its creation and its culture for a large chunk of his formative years, his first experience with making music came from playing bass in a rock band at school. However his involvement with the band didn’t last very long as on hearing dance music Nick was totally blown away by it’s diversity and the variety of sounds on offer. Consequently he decided that the tone of rock music didn’t satisfy as he felt it to be far too limited, in contrast Nick found the unlimited tonal possibilities of dance music to be extremely exciting. Particular music that got him hooked included; General Levy’s “Incredible” and most things from Prodigy’s early years.,Nick actually started making beats at the tender age of thirteen on an old Acorn computer, although to begin with he was just messing around he quickly found his passion and this light hearted hobby gradually became an obsession. It’s important to note that until recently Nick has been entirely self taught, his only aid coming from a whole host of software instruction manuals which he enjoyed reading from cover to cover.,Things didn’t really start to happen for him until last year when he made a conscious decision to take his production process extremely seriously. Nick enrolled in a renowned sound engineering course in London’s East End, where he found himself polishing up his self taught skills, whilst also going deeper into the realms of truly understanding the concept of sound.,Eventually Nick managed to make a few things that he felt proud of so he began to give out some CDs for his friends to listen to, only looking for a bit of feedback. However, a certain friend decided to take one of these “Don’t Play Them to Anyone Else” CDs and give one to award winning DJ and Ram Record’s label owner Andy C. On hearing the tracks Andy not only saw talent but he saw a release, within hours Nick had the phone call and within weeks Nick had his first release on Ram’s much respected sister imprint Frequency: a 12" featuring “Down the Drain” with “Hotline” on the flip.,With this new found confidence in mind; in recent months Nick went in the studio and rolled out three brilliant bits of production in quick succession. To Nick’s delight all of them got the stamp of approval; “Acid Test” and “Get On Up” will act as his follow up release on Frequency whilst his brilliant “Strobe” is to be included on Chapter Six of the Ram Raiders series on Ram Records. All the above tracks have been really well received by the scene’s top flight DJs but to Nick’s surprise press and radio have been in support too; they’ve all received regular airplay on both Grooverider’s BBC Radio 1 Drum & Bass show and Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 prime time specialist show.,All that remains to be said is remember the name and watch this space.

In the following years, 12th Planet became a household name within the global dance music circuit with official releases on Interscope, Mad Decent, Monstercat, and OWSLA, as well as support on Skrillex’s Mothership Tours, and stops at major festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, EDC, HARD, and Ultra.

Making a rapid and far-reaching impact on the electronic music scene over the course of his double-decade career, it was the move from Adin’s war-torn birthplace of Bosnia to a Rotterdam record store in his youth that marked the first stepping stone on his eventual ladder to success. Taking early inspiration from iconic producers such as Masters At Work, Roger Sanchez and Erick Morillo, it was his dub mix of Sandy Rivera’s ‘Freak’ on Simon Dunmore’s Defected Records that was championed all over the scene. By 2007, Adin had become one of the most in-demand artists in the business, touring worldwide with a schedule of more than 30 shows per month.

With that success, the two would collaborate again, when Dombresky released singles “Wait” and “Utopia” on Tchami’s label ‘Confession’.

  • Enamour

Washington D.C.-based producer and DJ specializing in melodic deep & progressive house and hypnotic tech house & techno. Enamour has become a definitive name of the dance floor, creating masterful soundscapes with no boundary of range: his productions infuse dreamy melodies of deep house, the potent power of progressive house and the smoldering, alluring momentum of dark techno. Enamour is Michael Gold, who was raised near Washington DC -- home to institutions of electronic music like Flash and U Street Music Hall as well as legendary acts like Sharam and Dubfire -- a city invariably considered a hidden heart of the genre in the United States. Long before he could enter a club, Gold found an early interest in music with the piano. A few years later, his fascination continued with guitar, then jazz, indie and later dance -- his passion for music unchanging, despite his evolving taste. His musical intrigue did not go unnoticed, especially as he began DJing open format around DC. Self-taught and curious, an interest in learning how to edit songs together for friends took him down a rabbit hole experimenting with Reason and Ableton and soon, Enamour was born. Enamour’s music has never been pigeonholed in any one genre -- with each new exploration as technical as the next -- a reflection of his eclectic musical upbringing and his foundation in music theory combined with the prowess of a seasoned producer. As a result his production touch is as intricate as it is effective and emotive, proven by his consistent ability to produce tracks that are equally enjoyed as listening experiences at home as they are pouring loudly through a club’s sound system. With each and every one of his releases, he’s continually made fans out of esteemed curators like Pete Tong and Danny Howard as well as leaders like Sasha, Guy J, and Mark Knight. He’s also made his mark as a coveted remixer, reworking the likes of Lane 8, Above & Beyond, Hayden James and Cassian, to name a few. Some of the most renowned institutions of dance music were quick to back those stamps of approval, with Mixmag inducting him into their hand-selected Magnified team of artists on the rise and DJ Mag crowning him “one to watch.” Undeniably, Enamour has become a global presence while also doing his hometown proud as an outstanding mainstay on the legendary Yoshitoshi label, which also calls Washington DC home. Beyond, he’s also released on several of the genre’s most exciting labels including Last Night on Earth, Anjunadeep, Future Classic, Kindisch, Lane 8’s This Never Happened, Rufus Du Sol’s Rose Avenue, Desert Hearts Black, mau5trap and more. Enamour has toured across India, Argentina and North America, playing at Burning Man as well as esteemed venues like The Brooklyn Mirage, Miami’s Treehouse, The Bow in Buenos Aires, Los Angeles’ Sound Nightclub and Washington DC’s own Flash and Echostage. Today, Enamour’s world is limitless. His ability to effortlessly weave and maneuver across the vibrant spectrum of electronic music both in his original productions and dynamic sets has captivated enthusiastic dance floor movers -- enamoured them, if you will -- from all around the world. No boundaries ahead and with plenty of new releases incoming, Enamour only has further and farther to go from here.

  • Jaguar

̸BIOGRAPHY Jaguar is a broadcaster and DJ representing the next wave of emerging talent on her BBC Radio 1 show, Introducing Dance. Jaguar Bingham is every bit as memorable as her name. Hailing from Alderney in the Channel Islands, but based in East London, the 27-year-old broadcaster, DJ and journalist, known mononymously as Jaguar, is among the new guard of multi-hyphenate talents steering UK dance music towards brighter waters. She’s a next-gen tastemaker instigating change through projects such as UTOPIA and The Jaguar Foundation. Jaguar’s work to date, spanning from her radio internship at BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra in 2014 to more recent endeavours such as her landmark BBC Introducing on Radio 1 Dance show, has been anchored by a desire to spotlight new artists and minority voices within electronic music. It’s what drew her to BBC Introducing – a platform devoted to unsigned and emerging musicians – in the first place. In 2016, Jaguar joined the crew as Team Assistant at the station’s Sheffield HQ. At the time, she was studying English Literature at Leeds University. (A move, says Jaguar, spurred on by the city’s reputation for vibrant nightlife.) Each week, she would rifle through tunes submitted to the BBC Uploader by new artists. “I was listening to all the dance tracks and sending them to Danny and Monki, and Annie's shows and Pete's shows,” says Jaguar, who later worked for BBC Introducing’s Central Team in London, “so I was ready, even then, for my own show.” That moment came in 2020, when Jaguar launched the BBC Introducing Dance show on Radio 1. A defining moment in Jaguar’s career to date, the show has been met with critical acclaim. In 2021, Mixmag named her Broadcaster of the Year – a poignant accolade, given it was there that Jaguar’s voice and face became synonymous with its weekly office party, the LAB LDN. “I fell in love with dance music at the LAB LDN,” says Jaguar on her time at Mixmag, where she also worked as Weekend Editor for a time. “It was really special.” Elsewhere, she was awarded Best Radio Show for BBC Introducing Dance through a public vote at last year’s DJ Mag Best of British Awards. The magazine had previously dubbed her “UK radio’s next gen champion”. More recently, Jaguar was tapped to co-present this year’s IMS alongside summit co-founder Pete Tong MBE. Keen to diversify her work, Jaguar has also produced and voiced documentaries for radio on topics such as LGBTQIA+ safe space clubbing and written articles spotlighting unsung Black women pioneers in house music. She was also Beatportal’s Guest Editor in August 2021, and previously helmed a show on South London community station Reprezent Radio, which she dedicated to new music and guests such as HAAi, Anja Schneider and Dance System. In September 2020, Jaguar turned her attention to parties. She launched an event, UTOPIA, with the brand later branching out into a UTOPIA Talks conference and podcast. The latter welcomed SHERELLE, Mary-Anne Hobbs, Sama’ and many more in its first season. “I describe UTOPIA as my vision of the world,” says Jaguar, reflecting on the brand at large and the very first UTOPIA club night: a sold-out celebration at London’s Night Tales. “It’s a world I'm trying to get to through all of the work I do: radio, DJing and so on. It's a community.” Speaking of communities, Jaguar was inspired by some of the queer parties and venues she’d encountered previously as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Dalston Superstore, say, or Leeds’ Wharf Chambers. Elsewhere, she’s thrilled to be sharing her latest project, The Jaguar Foundation, with the world. A partnership with Ministry of Sound and Sony Music UK Social Justice Fund, Jaguar described the foundation as a “home for my long-term commitment to [equalising] music through more forward-thinking initiatives and partnerships” in an op-ed she penned for the Independent. The Jaguar Foundation released its first report on the state of gender equality in UK dance music at last month’s IMS. Furthermore, the foundation’s first initiative, Future1000, saw Jaguar collaborating with in-school music education platform Virtuoso (fka FutureDJs) on a free, UK-wide DJ, production and leadership programme which introduced 1000 female, trans and non-binary students aged 12-18 to the music industry. A major move for the industry and Jaguar alike. Tackling issues such as gender imbalance, representation and accessibility within the industry at a foundational level, the initiative provided curious minds with artist-led sessions with the likes of Jyoty, Jayda G and Bklava and course modules curated by the London College of Music Education. “I wanted the students to feel represented, supported, and comfortable,” explains Jaguar. “It can be scary learning to DJ. I wanted them to feel they were in an environment where they feel safe to explore their interests.” Future1000 was brought to life during the pandemic. It was then that Jaguar, amid the chaos of the time, recognised what her purpose was – and had been for some time, subconsciously – within the industry: amplifying marginalised and undiscovered artists and DJs. “It made me look inward,” says Jaguar on lockdown. “I realised I’m never going to be the loudest person. My way of expressing myself comes through my work and making it clear that I’m going to spotlight not just great music, but great music from women, and Black, brown, trans and non-binary people.” Born to a Ghanaian mother and English father, Jaguar cites the “lineage of Ghanaian women” on her mother’s side, along with her girlfriend, as continued inspirations. Though it was her father who taught her to always go the extra mile and dream big. (She reckons she’s also inherited his work ethic.) She looks up to fellow tastemakers such as Annie Mac and The Blessed Madonna, as well as Clara Amfo and Honey Dijon. This admiration is entirely reciprocated. Jaguar is a regular at the Annie Mac-curated Lost and Found Festival in Malta, for instance, where she treats sun-kissed ravers to her signature cocktail of genre-hopping, feel-good bubblers. She has previously supported Annie at venues across the UK, including Warehouse Project and the Pickle Factory. In 2018, Jaguar was mentored by The Blessed Madonna for the Smirnoff Equalising Music campaign. It was a spectacular ‘pinch-me’ moment that solidified her incredible career trajectory up until then. Let’s rewind though, for a second. Growing up on Alderney, it was the video games that initially piqued Jaguar’s interest in immersive electronic music and world-building through sound design. “I’d play Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts,” she recalls. “I loved fantasy games, they’ve got such incredible soundtracks. I’ve actually started gaming again, since lockdown. Seven-year-old me would be excited to see it.” Her older brother exposed her to much of the music that eventually shaped her personal taste. (Her brother’s collection, that is, along with teenage summers spent raving in WWII bunkers on the island). Back when they were kids, he would transfer tunes from his Limewire-acquired collection to her iPod. “I'd listen to Kanye West and the Chemical Brothers,” she says with a grin so infectious you can’t help but smile too. “I remember hearing Timbaland's Shock Value for the first time, as well as Gorillaz's Demon Days.” A love for pop music soon blossomed, with Beyoncé, Black-Eyed Peas and emo/pop-punk outfit Evanescence, along with Aussie sisterly duo the Veronicas, among her favourites back then. Her affinity for electronic music and genres such as house, techno and disco, along with jungle, drum’n’bass and stacks more floor-filling styles, merged with an interest in student radio while in Leeds. “I loved the way talking about music, discovering music and presenting it to an audience made me feel,” she says of the days spent presenting and producing her own student radio show, Dangerous Jag. In 2016, Jaguar won two coveted Studio Radio Awards. “It was like winning an Oscar at the time!” she laughs. Since her first stint on the airwaves, it’s been clear Jaguar possesses a natural talent for bonding with listeners via a shared love for great music. Not only that, but a determination to uplift those around her. See, Jaguar isn’t content with making a name for herself alone. Instead, she strives to rise through the ranks side by side with her peers. Take her recent run of headline UK shows with UTOPIA, which saw her inviting Future1000 alumni Badly Drawn Banana aboard the HMS UTOPIA for an intimate party on the Thames. Looking ahead, Jaguar is a resident at iconic hotspot Pikes Ibiza this season, with shows also confirmed at storied venues such as DC10 and Amnesia. Elsewhere, she’ll set out on a must-see European tour of her own, hitting up events such as Glastonbury, Circoloco and Radio 1’s Big Weekend this spring and summer. Jaguar will also fly UTOPIA out to Ibiza for a pair of unmissable White Isle shows, and make her US debut this October at CRSSD Festival. She’s also ideating on future film and documentary projects. She’d like to write some books down the line, and live out her childhood dreams by dabbling in TV presenting. She also plans to grow UTOPIA into a festival one day and aspires to host the BBC’s coverage of Glastonbury. We can expect future club sets to include specially-produced edits of tracks made by Jaguar’s friends, too. A neat touch, one that’s very much in keeping with the spirit of togetherness that permeates through all that Jaguar does. Togetherness, authenticity and the delightful purveyance of effervescent dance music: these are the calling cards of Jaguar.

  • James Hype

James Hype has proven himself to be arguably one of the UKs most important artists with his bootlegs and remixes consistently forming the cornerstone of UK and international dancefloors, alongside his singles regularly clocking tens of millions of streams. He has also been able to set the bar of what is humanly possible as a DJ in dance music, serving as a product ambassador for Pioneer DJ. Growing up in Liverpool in the North of England, James Hype took to DJing at the age of 15, and by 16 had taken to DJing house parties and birthdays for his friends. James reflects that he was “fascinated by grime instrumentals” at the time, listening to BBC 1Xtra and watching music videos showing the DJs using the decks, and committed to learning to emulate what he was watching. After cutting his teeth in the local club circuit and spending every spare hour sharpening his now signature skills, James Hype found the need for upbeat, club-ready remixes of usually slower records compelling. This led him to create his own edits of tracks which were prolific in the charts but needed an extra dose of energy to suit the dancefloors he was playing to. This then expanded his name from resident DJ to in-demand touring DJ. Using online platforms such as DJCity and Soundcloud, James continued to gain notoriety and with the exponential success of his remix of Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’, James had exploded onto the national scene with keen eyes anticipating original material to come.

Jeff Mills, along with Robert Hood, Carl Craig, and Joey Beltram, is one of the biggest American names in techno. Championed for his music's relentless pursuit of hardness and his intense, almost industrial DJ sets (often utilizing three or four turntables or CD decks and a drum machine), Mills is one of the most significant figures in a long line of Detroit-bred talent to earn an international reputation. Joris Voorn sits at the epicenter of the Dutch electronic music scene, the most renowned and instantly recognisable artist from Holland, representing underground house and techno on a wider global stage. For a country with a population of just seventeen million Holland’s contribution to world electronic music is unsurpassed. While house and techno trace their roots to the marginal and mainly black American underground, its taken a relatively small country in the European lowlands to flip electronic music on its head and turn it into the global powerhouse it is today. • JOSH WINK

Josh Wink has always run ahead of the pack, as a DJ, label owner, producer, remixer, and artist. With the release of Profound Sounds Vol. 2, Wink continues to forge ahead, challenging established conventions of what a mix CD should be, not only by remaining true to his mercurial aesthetic as a DJ, but also taking advantage of technology to fine-tune his selections into the best possible recorded representation of Josh Wink.,“Profound Sounds Vol. 1 is one of my favorite compilations – it just happens that I made it," says Wink of the new album’s 1999 predecessor. “It represents me, and the way I combine house and techno, in both my DJ sets and as a producer, pretty well. I’m not one for holding people to one specific genre; I love being on the median in between.”,The sound of Josh Wink today remains one of a man unafraid to walk the border between stylistic boundaries. Profound Sounds Vol. 2 starts off dark and atmospheric with “Form Is Emptiness” by Swayzak, then quickly builds momentum with the minimal and melodic Joshua Main mix of Rithma’s “Tracks for a Weirder Day.” The 73-minute mix incorporates hints of old school Chicago house (“Make A Move” by Minimal Man), electro (“E Series 2” by Frankie Bones), and even Latin and tribal house (“Auburn” by David Alvarado). Perhaps the finest example of Wink’s refusal to limit his play list to any one genre comes at the three-quarter mark, when he integrates Aaron Carl’s paean to house music, “The Word,” over techno-flavored tracks courtesy of Rino Cerrone and Mr. G.,Unlike most of the mix CDs clogging the shelves, Profound Sounds Vol. 2 doesn’t attempt to cash in on the latest trends or mega-hits. “We could have gone that route, and signed a couple of really big tracks, and put a sticker on the front that says, ‘Includes the hit so-and-so…,’ and everybody would go, ‘Oh, I know that one,’” Wink admits. "But my integrity as an artist doesn’t allow me to do that. I used tracks on this compilation that span a big period of time: Some older ones, some newer ones, and some unreleased.” And he made sure to include a few more of his own cuts this time around, including the hypnotic modulations of “Oakish,” the Blakkat remix of “Superfreak (Freak),” and his own South Philly Acid Pass redux of Dave Clarke’s driving “Compass.”,But making Profound Sounds Vol. 2 didn’t just begin and end with picking the tracks and sequencing them in a suitable order. After that step, he tailored every cut to meet his specific requirements for this mix. “Every track is re-edited as a Josh Wink re-edit. I don’t end up compromising the integrity of the original art, I just altered it to fit my contour.” Only after customizing each song was he ready to record the final version of the set. “In a sense, I did the mix twice,” he observes.,Towards that same end as an added value, Wink included a bonus disc to Profound Sounds Vol. 2, which features both audio and video content. The aural component includes the CD debut of four Wink productions previously available on vinyl only: The original “Superfreak (Freak),” “Evil Acid,” “How’s Your Evening So Far” (featuring Lil Louis), and “What You Mean To Me” by Range of Motion. The visual portion of the disc reveals an in-depth interview with Wink featuring studio and live footage, detailing the intricate process of making the record. “It’s important to me to let people know what I did on this to make this disc different, rather than just mixing it,” he reiterates.,Of course, diehard Wink fans expect nothing less from this artist, who has been breaking new ground for the past two decades. In the late 1980s and early ’90s, when most of the U.S. was just waking up to rave culture, Wink – who had been working as a mobile DJ in his hometown of Philadelphia since he was 13 years old – was already making his own tracks (“Tribal Confusion” by E-Culture, with his former partner King Britt) and hauling his records around the country to spin at burgeoning clubs and parties.,In 1995, Wink became one of the first DJ-producers to translate his hard work into mainstream success, when he unleashed a string of classics, including “Don’t Laugh,” “I’m Ready,” and “Higher State of Consciousness,” that topped charts worldwide, and made him a bona fide pop star in Europe. On his 1998 album, HereHear, Wink pushed boundaries even further, inviting fellow artists as diverse as Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Caroline Crawley (Shelleyann Orphan/This Mortal Coil), and Philly poet-performer Ursula Rucker (Jazzanova, The Roots), to contribute to a far-reaching disc that ran the gamut of electronic music styles, from ambient and trip-hop to drum & bass, as well as the trademark mix of house and techno on which Wink has built his international reputation.,Since the release of the first Profound Sounds compilation in 1999, Wink has been concentrating on various projects, including continuing to oversee operations of his Ovum Recordings record label. Over the past year Josh has released another two dance floor anthems, “How’s your evening so far” and most recently “Superfreak”, both of which continue his tradition of making distinct music that catches people’s ears and inspires others to compose their own music. Although he used to bristle at requests to remix other artists ("because you sell the rights away, and don’t own them any more, even though the remix is basically all your own music), lately he’s grown to enjoy that gig more, turning out such notable overhauls as his recent reworking of “Blue Jeans” for Ladytron, Paul Oakenfold’s “Starry Eyed Surprise,” and Depeche Mode’s “Free Love.” Wink hopes to compile his favorite remix gems on a CD collection soon. He’s also working on some songs with fellow Philly denizen G. Love (as in, G. Love & Special Sauce), and hopefully further collaborations and production gigs with other like- and open-minded musicians.,“I get bored if I do the same thing” Wink concludes. “Some people get pigeonholed as being into just one thing. I hate that. When there are rules, it doesn’t become art, and it’s not fun. I’ve learned that you can’t please everybody, so I’d rather be concerned with making good art, and the people that like this art will stick with you.” Profound Sounds Vol. 2 is classic Josh Wink. It dares to be different. It is good art. And, most importantly, it is great fun.

“Kaskades signature sound is as unmistakable as it is beautiful; a combination of dewy female vocals, tough electronic underpinnings, and memorable melodies.” — Billboard,The New York Times may have called him the “new face of electronic dance music” in a recent profile, but Ryan Raddon, known as Kaskade, has been in the trenches of the EDM scene as an original recording artist and in-demand DJ for more than a decade. He has released seven studio albums, including his latest, Fire & Ice, scored nine Top 10 hits on Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay Chart, created chart-topping remixes for everyone from Lady Gaga to Beyoncé, appeared at all the major summer festivals, and has performed between 150 and 200 headlining shows a year for the last 10 years, building a name for himself as an innovator of the EDM scene as we know it today, which has opened doors for the likes of Deadmau5, Tiesto, Skrillex and more. In doing so, he has helped to lay the groundwork for a titanic musical and cultural shift: a post-rock EDM revolution that has captured the imagination of a new generation of music lovers across North America,Kaskade has been named America’s No. 1 DJ by DJ Times and Pioneer DJ. In 2012, he will appear at this year’s Coachella, for which he has a special performance planned, and will hit the road in May for his biggest headlining tour ever — 50-plus North American shows in just over three months. His own live show is a jaw-dropping spectacle that finds him performing in front of an 80-foot wide, three-stories tall LED screen that blares images synched with the music while strobe Lights scan the crowd. Kaskade’s belief in the transformative power of dance music to uplift thousands of people at once has had a significant effect on the U.S. scene. His ground-breaking double residency in Las Vegas at the Encore Beach Club (which had not even been built when he signed on) and Marquee has elevated the city’s status as a premiere club-going destination on par with London, Berlin, and Ibiza, is another testament to his influence.,Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, Raddon was heavily influenced by New Wave bands like The Cure, Echo and The Bunnymen, and The Smiths that ignited his love for melody and lyrics and was strongly impacted by the house music scene that developed in Chicago. Following stints spinning throughout college and in A&R at OM Records, he began working on his own music, which includes multiple singles, EPs, and remixes, as well as the albums: his most recent 2011 release Fire & Ice – which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Dance Chart, No. 3 on the Independent Albums chart, and No. 17 on the Top 200 Albums chart, while the iTunes version debuted at No. 4 on the overall album chart. The Fire disc contains ten original songs geared firmly toward the dancefloor, while on the Ice disc, Kaskade delivers the perfect down-tempo post-club experience by remixing all ten songs. Both discs showcase the musical versatility tat has characterized his work ever since he began writing his own songs. This album was preceded by It’s You, It’s Me (2003), In the Moment (2004), The Calm (2006), Here & Now (2006), Love Mysterious (2006), Strobelite Seduction (2008), Dynasty (2010) and Dance.Love (2010).

  • Kaytranada

Born in Haiti and raised in the city of Montreal, Canadian artist Kaytranada has experienced an explosive rise in the past couple of years with his irresistible... production and live sets, but the hard work and success did not happen over night. Before touring the globe and amassing millions of hits online with his series of beloved tracks and mixes, the young man came up as a true disciple, absorbing hip hop and RnB culture since his childhood and finding ways to make the music his own. Since the age of fourteen, when he first began to DJ and the following year when his brother introduced him to music production software, his output has been relentless. As he explains, “after he showed me the basics, from that day on I couldn’t stop making beats,” pumping out a beat a day for the next couple of years and soon after self-releasing a series of EPs and beat tapes that quickly began to expand his reach. Official releases on HW&W and Jakarta Records soon spread his name like wildfire and some instant-classic remixes by the likes of Missy Elliot, Janet Jackson, TLC, Danny Brown and others have cemented his reputation and his sound; an undeniable swing of the drums comparable to Dilla’s, a signature soulful touch in the melodies, and a healthy dose of funky bass lines. In the past year, he was approached by Brodinski to drop the single “Free Things In Life” on the hotly-tipped French label Bromance, has headlined tours in Europe, Australia and North America, and released his newest single and video “At All” which has already conquered dance floors worldwide and introduced his face to the world with an unforgettable video. Now, as he continues to bridge the gap between the dance world and hip hop/RnB, he is prepping a solo album for 2015 and a series of high profile collaborations that will confirm his position as one of the most important producers in today’s musical landscape. • Lane 8

Daniel Goldstein is Lane 8. The California born producer/DJ is building a strong army of fans for his melodic, emotional house sound. What sets Daniel apart from the crowded dance music scene is his ability to craft music that succeeds both in the club and on the iPod – a skill that has landed him an unusually wide range of DJ support. When you consider that everyone from The Magician to ODESZA, from Above & Beyond to Annie Mac have heavily supported his music, you can see why he was named one of the “top 25 trail-blazing producers” by inthemix.com. His first string of releases with Anjunadeep, including “Diamonds,” “Be Mine”, “The One / Nothing You Can Say” and “Every Night," repeatedly topped the Hype Machine charts and garnered BBC Radio 1 support from Pete Tong, B. Traits, Annie Mac and Zane Lowe. Daniel is the only guest artist to ever release music on cult label French Express, while official remixes for Above & Beyond, Eric Prydz, ODESZA, Maribou State, and Icarus have shown his knack for appealing to both mainstream and indie audiences, in addition to his deep house base. ‘Rise,’ Daniel’s debut artist album, was released via Anjunadeep last year to cult and critical acclaim. An emotional 10-track journey across beautiful melodic instrumentals, leftfield pop moments and quirky electronica, the confident ‘Rise’ represented a bold, bright coming of age for Lane 8. The New York Times, SPIN, Billboard, and VICE’s Noisey all premiered tracks from the album. With regard to the release of ‘Rise’, DJ Mag stated Lane 8 has “created a lane all to himself, free of comparison and full of resilient independence.” After yet another Hype Machine #1 track with his stirring remix of Maribou State’s “Wallflower”, Daniel released his ‘Midnight EP’ in January of 2016 on Coyu’s esteemed tastemaker record label, Suara. The 3-track EP reached the top spot on Beatport’s Deep House release chart, further intensifying the momentum behind the Lane 8 name. Most recently, Daniel has introduced a new label and events concept called ‘This Never Happened’, removing the distractions of phones and photos and encouraging fans to experience the music and moment in its purest form.

In the beginning, DJs were faceless human jukeboxes that played at the whim of their audience. When dance culture boomed DJs became superstars, and fame and ego replaced the love of the music. Luciano represents a third way: he is both a single-minded artist completely devoted to music and a performer whose charisma is an intrinsic part of his global appeal. Luciano fuses art and fame like no other DJ. As a result, the humble, Swiss-Chilean DJ, producer and boss of Cadenza Records is one of the biggest stars of the global electronic music scene. • MACEO PLEX

Spain-based producer Eric Estornel initially reserved the name Maceo Plex for his festival-friendly house productions before gradually taking the project into a darker, more introspective direction. After establishing himself in the techno world for his work as Maetrik beginning in the early 2000s, and exploring more abstract electro and IDM as Mariel Ito around the middle of the decade, he began releasing some of his most accessible tracks under the Maceo Plex handle starting in 2009. Over the course of the following decade, the project evolved from deep, sexy house with prominent Chicago and Detroit influences (such as on debut full-length Life Index) to a significantly more dramatic sound (particularly the ambitious Solar). In addition to releasing singles and full-lengths on well-regarded labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Kompakt, and Minus, Maceo Plex has mixed volumes of the DJ-Kicks and Fabric series. ~ AllMusic

  • Mall Grab

Jordan Alexander (aka Mall Grab) is an Australian house producer whose specialization in lo-fi tracks doesn't stop him from encompassing a variety of genre influences. Emerging in 2015, Alexander took his moniker from the sarcastic term used when someone holds a skateboard incorrectly -- with the grip tape rubbing against their clothes -- which is typical of people who use one as an accessory; the name hints at the fun-loving nature behind his productions and his often-cheeky demeanor. Sun RaBorn in Newcastle, Australia, Alexander was originally inspired by his parents' rock & roll record collection, but when he hit his teens he developed a love of electronic and dance music, specifically electro and the rise of the Ed Banger crew. As his taste matured, Alexander found an affinity with dusty, understated house cuts, leading to his debut EP, 2015's Feel U, which saw release on Canadian label Collect-Call; despite being the label's first unknown signing, the EP quickly sold out. ~ AllMusic

  • PAUL KALKBRENNER

Even though reality shows have been trying to prove otherwise, a successful career as a musician, even as a pop star, cannot be forced with a pre-packaged crash course. As of 2010, Paul Kalkbrenner has tallied up more than 15 years of experience as a producer and live act, all the while learning what it means to go purposefully from one step to the next. When the Berlin Wall fell, he was 12. The soundtrack of his youth, and of the majority of his generation, was still in its infancy, awaiting its breakthrough: techno music.,The fall of the wall meant reunification, but above all, a sense of no holds barred. The eastern part of the city became the anarchic, creative playground for a euphoric youth, now freed from bureaucracy. The early 90s were formative years for a young Paul Kalkbrenner as well. Eventually, in one of many long and sleepless nights on the dancefloors of E-Werk, Planet and Whale, the dream was born to make music himself, and anything less important would be put aside. A job as TV editor got him through the mid-90s and financed his first music gear. By this point Paul had already decided that he did not want to be a typical DJ playing other people’s records, but rather to play only his own music, live in a club setting. His first tracks were released in 1999 on Berlin-based BPitch Control (the newly founded label from Ellen Allien) as the Friedrichshain EP, titled after his home district in the city’s east. A series of further singles and two full-lengths (Superimpose and Time) followed, plus continuous live performances that threatened to shatter the grid of his calendar.,Together with Paul Kalkbrenner, BPitch Control gained a strong momentum. Interviews in respected German magazines like Spex and De:Bug paved the way for regular international bookings. The Lufthansa fetishist had now become a frequent flyer. Paul’s third album Self (2004) would mark the beginning of a new era. His melodic sound, with its affinity for grand emotional gestures, obeyed the logic of the dancefloor, but Self introduced a narrative aesthetic, serving as a soundtrack to a film that didn’t exist (at least, not yet…). It was Paul’s most musical and mature album to date, although still taking cues from the dancefloor and rave culture, offering a first glimpse of what was yet to come. "Gebrünn Gebrünn”, released one year later, became a crossover hit found in every DJ’s record bag and finally cemented Paul’s status as a Techno MVP.,In early 2006, German director Hannes Stöhr, an avid fan of Self, decided to get in contact with Kalkbrenner. His idea was to produce a film about a musician in Techno City during the new millennium, and Paul would compose the soundtrack. The two met, traded ideas and experiences, and soon after began working on the screenplay’s first draft. In the course of their exchange, Hannes had the realization that Paul should not just contribute the music, but that he would be the perfect choice as the film’s star. Without hesitation, Paul accepted the offer. They decided to title the film Berlin Calling. For the soundtrack’s production, Paul and his friend (and BPitch colleague) Sascha Funke spent half a year in Cézanne’s hometown of Aix-En-Provence in southern France.,Unencumbered by the cold, gray Berlin winter, Paul devoted himself entirely to the musical aspect of the project. One song already had a title: “Sky and Sand” with vocals by Paul’s brother Fritz. Upon Paul’s return to Berlin in 2007, the filming began, and the finished work was brought to German theaters in October 2008. Berlin Calling and Paul’s debut acting performance received positive reviews, and the film, thanks to its authentic depiction of the Berlin club scene and drug culture, became, slowly but surely, a cult classic.,The soundtrack and especially the single “Sky and Sand” broke all sales records. That track in particular went gold in Belgium where it remained in the charts’ Top Ten for weeks. The 2009 DVD release of the film brought Paul to a new, much larger audience around the world. By the end of the year, Paul separated with BPitch Control after a decade-long relationship to take the next steps of his career alone. In early 2010 Paul completed a twelve-city live concert tour throughout Europe (with over 50,000 tickets sold within just a few weeks), followed by many headlining appearances at summer festivals. More tours and new challenges await him.

On the heels of “Tarantula”, Pleasurekraft are working harder than ever, with remixes already out of Sander Kleinenberg (#2 BP Prog House), Munich’s legendary Great Stuff (#1 BP Tech House), and the recently released remix of Green Velvets classic “La La Land” (already in tech house top 10 in less than 1 week. In addition, two monster originals will be out later in the year with collaborations from Reset Robot [Sci+Tec/Noir], and Hugo [Great Stuff/Material].,While dance music trends come and go, those who stick to a singular vision and belief in the music they consistently produce are always left standing when the fads have long gone. Pleasurekraft is exactly such a group.

  • Richie Hawtin

Richie Hawtin played an essential role in developing the sound of minimal techno, as well as spreading its popularity throughout the global club scene. Most famous for his experimental acid techno productions as Plastikman, including the classic albums Musik (1994) and Consumed (1998), he is equally well-regarded for his groundbreaking live sets and mix CDs (especially 1999's Decks, EFX & 909) which utilize cutting-edge DJ technology, fusing loops of techno records with additional synthesizers and drum machines. Initially based in Windsor, Ontario and connected with the techno scene in nearby Detroit, he co-founded the highly influential Plus 8 (and its harder sublabel Probe Records) along with John Acquaviva, later establishing Minus and relocating to Berlin during the early 2000s, just as minimal techno began receiving mainstream exposure. Hawtin has continued pushing the limits of technology, developing highly conceptual events which are often intertwined with the art world. ~ AllMusic

  • Skream

London-based producer/DJ Skream (Ollie Jones) played a vital role in the development and popularity of dubstep during the 2000s. Following early collaborations with fellow genre pioneers Benga and Loefah, he released one of dubstep's most easily recognizable tracks, "Midnight Request Line," in 2005. His tracks and remixes helped shift the genre from being a darker, more minimalist form of club music to something more melodic and accessible, paving the way for its mainstream popularity by the beginning of the 2010s. Skream's biggest commercial success was his involvement as part of dubstep supergroup Magnetic Man (with Benga and Artwork), whose self-titled debut album reached number one on the U.K. dance chart. However, while primarily associated with dubstep, Skream has never limited himself to one genre, and much of his work since the mid-2010s has explored house and techno. ~ AllMusic

  • WILKINSON

Hailing from the leafy suburbs of South West London is Ram Recordsʼ new signing Wilkinson. His first insight into making music came at the age of 9 when his parents bought him a drum kit. Mark ʻWilkinsonʼ joined a few bands and was playing at venues as far as the Birmingham NEC and as close as the local old peoples home. This swiftly ended at the age of 14 when Wilkinson discovered his passion for dance music amongst other things. In his final year at college Wilkinson tried his hand at making beats in the college studio, this lead to him buying his first bits of production gear and turning his bedroom into a studio. A few years and part time jobs later, after driving his family mad with large amounts of bass loosening the brickwork of his house, Mark secured himself a studio not far from his home.,After fine-tuning his production skills, Wilkinson passed a few songs on to Hospital Records via Cyantific, which led to his first release on Hospital Recordsʼ Sick Music 2 compilation. A few months later Wilkinson sent a folder of tunes to Ram Records and within days received a phone call from Andy C inviting him for a meeting at the Ram Records HQ.,October 2010 saw three of Wilkinsonʼs songs featured on Andy Cʼs Nightlife 5 album and releases including ʻMoonwalkerʼ/ʻSamuraiʼ, ʻRefugeʼ, ʻGet Into Itʼ and the mighty ʻEverytimeʼ/ʻOverdoseʼ doing damage across dance-floors worldwide, winning fans from Skream, Fabio and High Contrast in the process.,Since then Mark has remixed Chase & Status top 5 single ʻTimeʼ, Time Takers ʻShe Blowsʼ and Exampleʼs new single ʻMidnight Runʼ to much critical acclaim.
