  • AFROJACK

Grammy award winning DJ and producer, Afrojack, is one of most notable and iconic names in electronic dance music (EDM) today. At only 26 years old he has made a large impact on the music industry and is a key player in the worldwide explosion and popularity of EDM. In 2013, Forbes magazine crowned him as #7 on ‘The World’s Highest Paid DJs List’ and this year The Hollywood Reporter called him ‘’a global icon’’ set ‘’to conquer the world.’’ A talented producer and artist Afrojack is versatile and creative with his sound whether creating club hits or producing and remixing for the likes of Beyoncé, Pitbull or Madonna. Afrojack is adept at shifting between genres and playing with his sound and it’s easy to see why his skills are some of the most sought after in the world.,Starting off in his hometown of Spijkenisse, Nick van de Wall aka Afrojack, quickly made a name for himself with a slew of hard-hitting underground releases, before exploding on the music scene in 2011 with the release of ‘Take Over Control’ - an instant worldwide club and chart hit the single reached platinum status in the U.S. Afrojack then went onto develop his own imprint in the production world with his label ‘Wall Recordings’ – a platform by which other passionate EDM artists could grow. He also wanted his label to retain the ‘club music’ brand, something he strives for with every Afrojack release. 2011 also saw Afrojack sign a landmark deal to become one of the first ever DJ’s to sign an annual residency in Las Vegas, at the legendary Wynn Hotel. The residency saw Afrojack perform over a dozen times a year at Wynn clubs including Encore Beach Club, Surrender, Tryst and XS.,From there the success continued; as well as making club hits and collaborating with the likes of David Guetta (co-writing and producing the worldwide smash ‘Titanium’), he also began to team up with and write for A-list pop artists around the world, including Madonna and Chris Brown. In 2011, he co-wrote and produced ‘Give Me Everything’ for Pitbull and Ne-Yo, which to this day has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide and reached #1 in the US Billboard Hot 100 Charts. Not to mention his production work for Beyonce’s ‘Run the World (Girls),’ his Grammy nominated remix for Leona Lewis’ ‘Collide’ and his 2011 underground track ‘Rock The House,’ which topped the Beatport dance music charts after just three days. The same year he headlined both EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival) NY & Las Vegas to over 300,000 people, as well as UMF (Ultra Music Festival) in Miami, Tomorrowland (in Belgium) and Coachella (LA) in addition a colossal 40 city ‘Jacked’ tour of the United States, all packed into 2012.,Last year got off to a monumental start when Afrojack signed an exclusive worldwide deal with Island Def Jam, Island UK and Universal Music Group. The deal saw Afrojack’s talent be recognized and supported by the renowned music label. The first project from the partnership was ‘The Spark’, a single that fused EDM and pop and showed a new sound for Afrojack as an artist. The year continued to be another huge one for Afrojack. For his fourth consecutive year he returned to headline Creamfields and at the Ultra Music Festival and Tomorrowworld, he debuted his own ‘Jacked’ stage showcasing his Wall artists. He also found time to shoot a documentary web-series, ‘March of the Afrojack’, which gave fans an insight into the real person behind the Afrojack moniker. The series was released on the Rolling Stone website and saw Nick share many intimate moments and thoughts from his journey on the road along with his personal mantra “If I can do it, you can do it too.”,In late 2013 Afrojack made history as he became the first DJ to ring the closing bell at NASDAQ Stock Market Exchange in New York, as electronic dance company, SFX, went public. This also came in the same week as Afrojack cemented his hands into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the second DJ to ever do this and in doing so reinforced his position as a global music icon.,2014 is set to be another milestone year for Afrojack as he releases his second single ‘Ten Feet Tall’, starts a new DJ residency at Las Vegas hotspot Hakkasan and releases his debut album with Island Records. This spring he returns to Miami as headliner on the Ultra Music Festival and to give his loyal fans a first taste and preview of his highly anticipated album set for release this May.,Given Afrojack’s immense popularity and influence on the music industry it is no surprise that many corporate brands have flocked to him for brand partnerships. Afrojack recently announced a partnership with globally celebrated fashion label ‘G-Star Raw’ for his own line of Afrojack inspired designs that will be sold worldwide. He was also sought out by leading gaming company, Razer, to be a brand consultant on the development of future products. Further, this January saw Nick’s latest single, ‘Ten Feet Tall’, premiere as a part of Bud Light’s new commercial during the Superbowl.,Afrojack has built a global brand that is recognized for influencing attitudes and championing new levels of change for the music world. It is clear from his exponential growth that there is no stopping him and at only 26 years old this is just the beginning…

  • GARETH EMERY

To say Gareth Emery has had a good year would be a vast understatement. Over the past twelve months, the popularity and buzz surrounding the young Brit reached explosive proportions, culminating in him being voted no.9 in 2009’s definitive DJ Mag Top 100 poll: one of only a handful of DJs to crack the world’s top ten before the age of 30.,Was this down to producing pure club anthems like Exposure and Metropolis alongside stunning remixes for Armin Van Buuren and Above & Beyond, all of which led to him spending more time at the top of Beatport’s trance chart than any other artist in ‘09? Maybe it was the launch of his new Garuda label and club night, responsible for selling out Manchesters iconic Sankeys club four times in a row whilst releasing his critically acclaimed compilation ‘The Sound Of Garuda’. Or perhaps it was the sheer amount of people he played to, banking half a million air miles travelling to over one hundred gigs at some of the world’s finest clubs and festivals. Whatever the reason, one thing is for certain: he’s on fire like never before.,Of course, what seems like ‘overnight’ success is usually the result of years of hard work, and Gareth Emery is no exception. He started learning the piano at 4, and whilst he’d completed his classical music training before he’d finished school, his real interest lay elsewhere, initially in guitar-based sounds. This was the UK in the mid-90s with Britpop and indie the order of the day, although as one might expect, Emery was no slouch, following the footsteps of Green Day and Oasis by headlining Southampton’s legendary Joiners venue at the age of just 15 with his band at the time. But it was a chance trip to Ibiza in 1998 that opened his eyes to the appeal of dance music, and after spending the next three years learning to make music with computers and midi, rather than guitars and pianos, he wrote his first electronic classic: the seminal ‘Mistral’, famously made whilst on holiday in France on a £500 laptop. Plenty more were to come.,These days, his records (which are composed, produced, and engineered entirely by him), span the worlds of trance, progressive, electro, techno, and a few other places. Languid, spacey grooves, juddering basslines and original melodies that take your breath away mean that it’s a given that Armin, Tiesto, Oakenfold, and Judge Jules have all been fully paid-up members of the Emery fan club for years. But more importantly, he’s firmly established as one of those rare producers who values quality over quantity, preferring to make five amazing records in a year then twenty average ones, and even happily refusing to release a track if it doesn’t feel “just right”, to the occasional frustration of his fans. It’s this uncompromising attitude, that drive for something unattainably perfect, that has made him one of the most sought-after producers and remixers on the planet.,But if there’s one place where he’s even more at home than in his studio, it’s behind the decks, where he’s morphed into the consummate superstar DJ, unequivocally demolishing dancefloors the world over. From global superclubs like Zouk in Singapore and Guvernment in Toronto, to epic festivals like Global Gathering, Trance Energy and Dance Valley, to the mega-brands like Ministry of Sound and Godskitchen, the utterly unique, instantly recognisable Emery sound continues to pack out more clubs, in more places across the world, than ever before.,The rise of Gareth Emery to dance music’s Premier league has been untraditional in almost every sense, and looking at his career, one gets the feeling he almost likes being the underdog. In 2009, when he was advised against launching his Garuda club night in the midst of one of the harshest recessions in living memory, he went ahead regardless, going on to totally sell-out every Garuda party that year. He also chose the road less travelled in 2006, when he turned down numerous offers from established radio stations to instead experiment with a virtually unknown format known as podcasting. It was a gamble that paid off, as four years and 100 episodes later, The Gareth Emery Podcast is now one of the most popular and influential dance music downloads in the world, with Emery’s famously diverse track selection and charismatic broadcasting style resulting in TGEP being nominated for ‘Best Podcast’ at the Miami Winter Music Conference IDMA Awards three years running.,Having also eschewed the lure of corporate major labels since the beginning, (almost all of his singles have been released on his own imprints), he’s living proof that you can amass a truly global following with little more than the power of the internet and some outstanding music. With millions of viewers on YouTube and legions of fans on Facebook, Twitter and Myspace, he’s a modern artist in every sense of the word; one with his finger truly on the pulse of the globalised, digitised planet we now inhabit. He sums it up in a recent interview: “At the start, there was no helping hand: I had no record deal, no money, and no idea about how to make my way in the music business. Basically I was just a kid from Southampton, who was making half-decent music on some very cheap equipment, and told people to check it out. The rest just sort of happened”. Inspirational stuff for talented kids everywhere.,With a list of achievements already far surpassing most DJs ten years his senior, Gareth Emery could easily sit back and be content with his lot, but you get the feeling that won’t be happening. After seeing his Garuda brand become the hottest label and club night launch in recent years (the quantity of Garuda t-shirts you now see at Emery gigs is testament to that), his plans for the next year are firmly rooted in the studio, where he’s determined to finally finish his long-anticipated artist album. “2009 was really all about Garuda. I started the year without a real home for my music, and now I’ve got one – as well as our Manchester residency which really was the surprise success of the year. But whilst Garuda has some amazing releases and nights lined up for 2010, for me, the next year’s all about finishing my album. I’ve been promising it since 2006, and whilst making a LP is undoubtably challenging when you spend half of your life abroad touring, I’m determined to put everything aside to finally nail it this year”.,At just 29, Gareth Emery’s well on the way to conquering the electronic music world, and if he finally cracks that artist album, he might just do it. Whatever happens though, 2010’s set to be a big one, as the worldwide Garuda massive eagerly await to see what’s coming next from this uniquely talented artist. We can’t wait – see you on the dancefloor.

  • HEADHUNTERZ

Willem Rebergen, better known as Headhunterz, kicked off his DJ career in 2003. That year, a friend gave him a ticket to Qlimax, and it was love at first sight. Discovering hardstyle music and its dedicated scene changed his life. From that moment on, he committed himself to becoming the best producer in the hardstyle genre. He locked himself up in his tiny bedroom studio, in the attic of his parents’ house in Veenendaal, and quickly learned the ropes of producing. Unaware of the revolution he would start, the foundations of the Headhunterz sound were made. Headhunterz’ new take on Hardstyle music made the genre grow into an international phenomenon. It was no longer just the sound of European raves, but became something worldly. Headhunterz made new audiences fall in love with the unstoppable energy of Hardstyle music. 7 years after visiting his very first hardstyle party he was on top of his career, with each new track captivating both his fanbase and artists outside the scene.

  • INFECTED MUSHROOM

Infected Mushroom – Erez Eisen and Amit Duvdevani (aka Duvdev) – has been the leading group within the global psy-trance scene for nearly a decade. Incorporating pumping, bad-ass grooves and infectious melodies and live instruments and vocals into their songs, they’ve performed live – a feat that many of their DJ peers aspire to accomplish – for well over a million people around the globe.,The band’s energetic live show has triumphed at some of the world’s biggest and most important music festivals (OMIX Festival in Mexico, Miami’s Ultra Festival, Tribe in Sao Paulo, among countless others), and they continue to regularly sell-out top clubs such as the Brixton Academy in London, Toronto’s Koolhaus at the Government, and Avalon in New York and Los Angeles. Their success as an electronic music band on the global concert circuit has translated into record sales in excess of 150,000 albums over the course of six acclaimed independent albums. Not bad for two guys from Haifa who started producing music mostly to escape boredom.,“We met in 1996 through a DJ friend,” recalls Erez. “Duvdev was in Goa at the time, and I was working on another project with a German guy. We met and tried to do one track together, and we’ve continued on since then.”,A year later, Erez and Duvdev started buying equipment and began to take Infected Mushroom – a name they stole from a disbanded local punk band – seriously. Finding little influence in Israel’s music scene, they drew inspiration from bands like Metallica and The Prodigy. Early productions led to club dates and gigs at local parties. Before long, the twosome had developed quite a loyal following. While the headlines were filled with news about violence and bloodshed, Infected Mushroom’s music touched the hearts of the burgeoning Israeli trance scene, and clubbers began looking to the band’s music for a respite from the tumultuous political situation.,“People were dying and the government saw that dealing with that as more important than abolishing trance parties,” says Erez. “And now the government is supporting trance parties. They want people to party, instead of staying home. There are places in the United States that you cannot go to because it is too dangerous because there are crazy people living there. It’s the same thing in Israel.”,Brandishing a multi-influenced trance sound that hadn’t been heard before, Erez and Duvdev were turned down by nearly every record label in Israel when they attempted to get a deal. “Nobody wanted to sign us,” recalls Erez. “We went to the biggest and smallest labels in Israel, and nobody was interested. At the time, we really believed in our music and continued looking for people to sign us. Fortunately, there was this A&R guy from BNE named Avi Youssef [and BNE’s owner, Avi Brand] who gave us a chance.”,In 1998, BNE released Infected Mushroom’s debut album, The Gathering. Inspired by the surreal ambient styles of Simon Posford, X-Dream and Transwave, it took a few months for the forward-thinking album to catch on. But once it did, the buzz within the global psy-trance scene became deafening.,The group’s second album, Classical Mushroom, was released in 2000. “This album was totally different that the first album,” says Duvdev, who, like Erez, is a classically trained musician. “Not only did we expand our style, but the album was big in Europe and Japan. It sounded totally different that the other trance music that was happening at the time.”,“The trance scene at the time was really monotonic as opposed to melodic with chords,” adds Erez. “We put a lot of classical elements into that album; it sounded different, and that’s why it stood out. At the beginning, nobody believed in that one as well.”,Infected Mushroom’s third album, B.P. Empire, followed in 2001. The combination of their live show and diverse electronic palette eventually won them the support of critics and a new legion of hardcore fans in North and South America. In 2003, Infected Mushroom issued their sprawling double-disc album, Converting Vegetarians. Perhaps one of their most ambitious recordings to date, Converting Vegetarians was a sonic departure away from trance. Leading the listener through trance, freestyle and ambient sounds, the album paved the way for 2004’s I’m The Supervisor.,“After we made the chilled-out non-danceable side to Converting Vegetarians, we wanted to make something for the trance fans that was danceable and full-on,” says Duvdev of I’m The Supervisor. “This album is trance, except for the last track. There’s more singing, and it’s the most difficult thing we’ve done. Using the voice as an instrument is tough to do. We’re like every band in that we’re trying to search for something new with every album.”,Always one step of their audience, Infected Mushroom are constantly pushing themselves. With fame and success in their homeland and in the global electronic music community, Infected Mushroom threw caution to the wind and relocated to Los Angeles in January 2005. The purpose was to take themselves out of their comfort zone in order to take their music to the next level.,“The weather is a lot like Israel’s,” says Erez, “and we still don’t know the city very well. But we’re here and we’re looking to push ourselves and do the sort of things that we couldn’t do in Israel.”,As they work in their adopted surroundings and continue to tour the world, Erez and Duvdev have added famed Israeli guitarist Erez Netz and Brazilian percussionist Rogerio Jardim to select live shows. They’re also busy finishing material for their seventh album, Vicious DeLicious, which contains a myriad of new musical explorations, from Flamenco guitar, to hip hop, to thrash-metal undertones. They have even been commissioned to remix recordings of rock legends, The Doors. But today they are especially proud to be recognized by their fans – Infected Mushroom was named #12 in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJ list, a 14 place jump from their debut on the list last year.,While they see themselves more as an electronic band rather than a psy-trance outfit these days, their track record of producing everything from trance to downtempo makes them feel that they can realize all of their musical aspirations.,“Being in the studio is like playing a PlayStation game, where you have to pass a level each time,” says Duvdev. “That’s our goal every time we do a session. The energy that you get at the parties makes you want to go right back into the studio and create new tracks. You need to be in the studio and do the shows; they’re both connected to each other. Our mission now is the same as when we started out, and that’s to get Infected Mushroom’s music out to more people.”

  • Miss K8

Ukranian hardcore DJ and producer Miss K8, real name Kateryna Kremko, has spent the last six years steadily climbing the Top 100 DJs poll. After big changes in 2019 — Kremko became a mother for the first time, performing until she was 28 weeks pregnant, and returning to the decks just three months later — the producer returned with brand new music for 2020. Collaborating with Angerfist on an EP earlier this year, as well as releasing a solo effort, the ‘queen of hardcore’ also confirmed a new album would land sometime in 2020 — the first since her 2016 LP ‘Magnet’. Outside of the studio, Kremko still managed to perform gigs this year, returning to the home of hardcore, Defqon.1 festival, for their first virtual event. She joined DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs Virtual Festival in September, and streamed a skull-crushing birthday live set for fans while in lockdown. If that’s not enough Miss K8 for you, there’s also archive sets online from the DJ at the incredible Dominator Festival in the Netherlands. ~ DJMag

Andrew John Clarke is a British DJ and record producer and is co-founder of RAM Records, a pioneering label in the drum and bass genre. Andy C was a DJ in his own right but gained a strong reputation and more bookings off the back of the successful "Valley of the Shadows" track, an early drum and bass track that walked the line perfectly between hardcore and drum and bass just as the genres were starting to split. The track, created and released by Origin Unknown (made up of Andy C and Ant Miles)—often referred to as "31 Seconds" or "Long Dark Tunnel" because of the samples it incorporates—made use of a heavy bassline, bell samples and a rolling drum track to produce a popular, easy to recognise track that was easy to mix and became a favourite in dance floors at raves across the UK and beyond. The track was released as an EP in 1993[7] and has been remixed and re-released several times, and is widely recognised as one of the most influential drums and bass tunes of the early 90s.

  • JOSH WINK

Josh Wink has always run ahead of the pack, as a DJ, label owner, producer, remixer, and artist. With the release of Profound Sounds Vol. 2, Wink continues to forge ahead, challenging established conventions of what a mix CD should be, not only by remaining true to his mercurial aesthetic as a DJ, but also taking advantage of technology to fine-tune his selections into the best possible recorded representation of Josh Wink.,“Profound Sounds Vol. 1 is one of my favorite compilations – it just happens that I made it," says Wink of the new album’s 1999 predecessor. “It represents me, and the way I combine house and techno, in both my DJ sets and as a producer, pretty well. I’m not one for holding people to one specific genre; I love being on the median in between.”,The sound of Josh Wink today remains one of a man unafraid to walk the border between stylistic boundaries. Profound Sounds Vol. 2 starts off dark and atmospheric with “Form Is Emptiness” by Swayzak, then quickly builds momentum with the minimal and melodic Joshua Main mix of Rithma’s “Tracks for a Weirder Day.” The 73-minute mix incorporates hints of old school Chicago house (“Make A Move” by Minimal Man), electro (“E Series 2” by Frankie Bones), and even Latin and tribal house (“Auburn” by David Alvarado). Perhaps the finest example of Wink’s refusal to limit his play list to any one genre comes at the three-quarter mark, when he integrates Aaron Carl’s paean to house music, “The Word,” over techno-flavored tracks courtesy of Rino Cerrone and Mr. G.,Unlike most of the mix CDs clogging the shelves, Profound Sounds Vol. 2 doesn’t attempt to cash in on the latest trends or mega-hits. “We could have gone that route, and signed a couple of really big tracks, and put a sticker on the front that says, ‘Includes the hit so-and-so…,’ and everybody would go, ‘Oh, I know that one,’” Wink admits. "But my integrity as an artist doesn’t allow me to do that. I used tracks on this compilation that span a big period of time: Some older ones, some newer ones, and some unreleased.” And he made sure to include a few more of his own cuts this time around, including the hypnotic modulations of “Oakish,” the Blakkat remix of “Superfreak (Freak),” and his own South Philly Acid Pass redux of Dave Clarke’s driving “Compass.”,But making Profound Sounds Vol. 2 didn’t just begin and end with picking the tracks and sequencing them in a suitable order. After that step, he tailored every cut to meet his specific requirements for this mix. “Every track is re-edited as a Josh Wink re-edit. I don’t end up compromising the integrity of the original art, I just altered it to fit my contour.” Only after customizing each song was he ready to record the final version of the set. “In a sense, I did the mix twice,” he observes.,Towards that same end as an added value, Wink included a bonus disc to Profound Sounds Vol. 2, which features both audio and video content. The aural component includes the CD debut of four Wink productions previously available on vinyl only: The original “Superfreak (Freak),” “Evil Acid,” “How’s Your Evening So Far” (featuring Lil Louis), and “What You Mean To Me” by Range of Motion. The visual portion of the disc reveals an in-depth interview with Wink featuring studio and live footage, detailing the intricate process of making the record. “It’s important to me to let people know what I did on this to make this disc different, rather than just mixing it,” he reiterates.,Of course, diehard Wink fans expect nothing less from this artist, who has been breaking new ground for the past two decades. In the late 1980s and early ’90s, when most of the U.S. was just waking up to rave culture, Wink – who had been working as a mobile DJ in his hometown of Philadelphia since he was 13 years old – was already making his own tracks (“Tribal Confusion” by E-Culture, with his former partner King Britt) and hauling his records around the country to spin at burgeoning clubs and parties.,In 1995, Wink became one of the first DJ-producers to translate his hard work into mainstream success, when he unleashed a string of classics, including “Don’t Laugh,” “I’m Ready,” and “Higher State of Consciousness,” that topped charts worldwide, and made him a bona fide pop star in Europe. On his 1998 album, HereHear, Wink pushed boundaries even further, inviting fellow artists as diverse as Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Caroline Crawley (Shelleyann Orphan/This Mortal Coil), and Philly poet-performer Ursula Rucker (Jazzanova, The Roots), to contribute to a far-reaching disc that ran the gamut of electronic music styles, from ambient and trip-hop to drum & bass, as well as the trademark mix of house and techno on which Wink has built his international reputation.,Since the release of the first Profound Sounds compilation in 1999, Wink has been concentrating on various projects, including continuing to oversee operations of his Ovum Recordings record label. Over the past year Josh has released another two dance floor anthems, “How’s your evening so far” and most recently “Superfreak”, both of which continue his tradition of making distinct music that catches people’s ears and inspires others to compose their own music. Although he used to bristle at requests to remix other artists ("because you sell the rights away, and don’t own them any more, even though the remix is basically all your own music), lately he’s grown to enjoy that gig more, turning out such notable overhauls as his recent reworking of “Blue Jeans” for Ladytron, Paul Oakenfold’s “Starry Eyed Surprise,” and Depeche Mode’s “Free Love.” Wink hopes to compile his favorite remix gems on a CD collection soon. He’s also working on some songs with fellow Philly denizen G. Love (as in, G. Love & Special Sauce), and hopefully further collaborations and production gigs with other like- and open-minded musicians.,“I get bored if I do the same thing” Wink concludes. “Some people get pigeonholed as being into just one thing. I hate that. When there are rules, it doesn’t become art, and it’s not fun. I’ve learned that you can’t please everybody, so I’d rather be concerned with making good art, and the people that like this art will stick with you.” Profound Sounds Vol. 2 is classic Josh Wink. It dares to be different. It is good art. And, most importantly, it is great fun.

  • KASKADE

“Kaskades signature sound is as unmistakable as it is beautiful; a combination of dewy female vocals, tough electronic underpinnings, and memorable melodies.” — Billboard,The New York Times may have called him the “new face of electronic dance music” in a recent profile, but Ryan Raddon, known as Kaskade, has been in the trenches of the EDM scene as an original recording artist and in-demand DJ for more than a decade. He has released seven studio albums, including his latest, Fire & Ice, scored nine Top 10 hits on Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay Chart, created chart-topping remixes for everyone from Lady Gaga to Beyoncé, appeared at all the major summer festivals, and has performed between 150 and 200 headlining shows a year for the last 10 years, building a name for himself as an innovator of the EDM scene as we know it today, which has opened doors for the likes of Deadmau5, Tiesto, Skrillex and more. In doing so, he has helped to lay the groundwork for a titanic musical and cultural shift: a post-rock EDM revolution that has captured the imagination of a new generation of music lovers across North America,Kaskade has been named America’s No. 1 DJ by DJ Times and Pioneer DJ. In 2012, he will appear at this year’s Coachella, for which he has a special performance planned, and will hit the road in May for his biggest headlining tour ever — 50-plus North American shows in just over three months. His own live show is a jaw-dropping spectacle that finds him performing in front of an 80-foot wide, three-stories tall LED screen that blares images synched with the music while strobe Lights scan the crowd. Kaskade’s belief in the transformative power of dance music to uplift thousands of people at once has had a significant effect on the U.S. scene. His ground-breaking double residency in Las Vegas at the Encore Beach Club (which had not even been built when he signed on) and Marquee has elevated the city’s status as a premiere club-going destination on par with London, Berlin, and Ibiza, is another testament to his influence.,Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, Raddon was heavily influenced by New Wave bands like The Cure, Echo and The Bunnymen, and The Smiths that ignited his love for melody and lyrics and was strongly impacted by the house music scene that developed in Chicago. Following stints spinning throughout college and in A&R at OM Records, he began working on his own music, which includes multiple singles, EPs, and remixes, as well as the albums: his most recent 2011 release Fire & Ice – which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Dance Chart, No. 3 on the Independent Albums chart, and No. 17 on the Top 200 Albums chart, while the iTunes version debuted at No. 4 on the overall album chart. The Fire disc contains ten original songs geared firmly toward the dancefloor, while on the Ice disc, Kaskade delivers the perfect down-tempo post-club experience by remixing all ten songs. Both discs showcase the musical versatility tat has characterized his work ever since he began writing his own songs. This album was preceded by It’s You, It’s Me (2003), In the Moment (2004), The Calm (2006), Here & Now (2006), Love Mysterious (2006), Strobelite Seduction (2008), Dynasty (2010) and Dance.Love (2010).

  • M.A.N.D.Y.

There is an air of mystery shrouding the true meaning behind the acronym of M.A.N.D.Y., an alias which embodies the mutual talents of childhood friends Philipp Jung and Patrick Bodmer. The pair readily indulge this curiosity by toying with various clever possibilities, including Me AND You, but the truth is likely a giggle under each of their talented breaths. P and P have carved a unique niche in electronic music by consistently selecting productions that induce their audience into a somatic frenzy. On the platform of their aptly titled Get Physical label, M.A.N.D.Y. has achieved massive success in colluding to create music that simply makes bodies move. Their foot stamping, hair flying passion is the ultimate expression of a dance music phenomenon for many years.,When M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade joined as musical soul mates with DJ T., first in Frankfurt, then in Berlin, Get Physical produced a caliber of electricity that rippled throughout the EDM community and into the relative mainstream. Philipp’s charm and savvy, Patrick’s allusive artistry, DJ T.‘s killer entrepreneurial sense and Booka Shade’s collaborative genius combined to form a masterpiece of intelligent design that reflects romantic sensibility and technical virtuosity. Together, they push the boundaries of dance music to compile an enviable arsenal of electro kissing house while caressing disco and flirting with techno. Body Language was the ubiquitous hit of 2005 and M.A.N.D.Y.’s Fabric Series three years later cemented their reputation as two of the most captivating selectors on the planet. One of their most recent prestige was a complication for Renaissance in 2009 which was met with tremendous accolades and described by Resident Advisor as “maturity, smarts, and cohesion…that is rare these days.”,Philipp and Patrick know exactly which buttons to press to make that bass jiggle up your spine and seduce your body free. Alongside many lives compadres Booka Shade, M.A.N.D.Y. has taken some time from their hectic global tour schedule to devise new, elaborations, culminating in the release of Body Language Vol. 10 in April 2011. In addition to a single release that will be the first Booka Shade vs. M.A.N.D.Y. cooperation to be heard in years, the boys have closed on a revolutionary touring show that utilizes infrared technology and a new mapping technique to project inverted video effects onto their Physical form as they perform. It is no doubt that their plans for this never before seen live visual component will conjure the kind of visceral excitement that only this duo can. In the feat of the imagination, M.A.N.D.Y. powers on through a perpetual rebirth into pulsating beats and Pretty Lights.

  • MARKUS SCHULZ

Introduction: Over the last 10 years Markus Schulz has fused the individual musical identities of progressive house & trance into his own creative, inimitable hybrid sound. Through the unique alignment of his headline DJ sets, Coldharbour label output and highly prominent Global DJ Broadcast show, he orchestrated a sea change revolution in the US trance scene – one that has gone on to have its sound influence sweep to the farthest reaches of the globe. This success has been singularly reflected in weekly headliner sets in front of many tens of thousands, a GDJB radio show listenership up in the tens of millions & one Beatport chart-topping release after another. Following several highly ranked positions in 2008 Shultz punched his way into the Top 10 of DJ Magazine’s Top 100 chart, landing at no.8. In repeating the exact same achievement in 2009, he now stands, quite unequivocally, as America’s no.1 club DJ.,Early History: Born in Eschwege, central Germany, Markus emigrated to the United States. Age 13, Markus’ dance music awakening came during the grip of the country’s then-exploding breakdance scene. His early production and DJ career roughly tracked that of the 2nd Stateside coming of House and he caught his first production break in 1993 when he remixed Sagat’s ‘Why Is It? (F** Dat)’ for Pete Tongs FFrr label. Markus’ freshman production release followed in 1994 with the 6-track-strong ‘Plastik Trax EP Vol 1’. Throughout the mid to late Nineties he continued to pull in early acclaim with a range of releases on numerous US luminary labels. In 1998 he recorded ‘You Won’t See Me Cry’ for Plastik Records (his first label), a release which was picked up by Eve Records for the UK. This became Markus’ first international calling card… the world had started to tune in.,Markus Schulz – The DJ: Through his natural audience affinity, flawless (and seemingly effortless) mixing and innate tune selection, he has wowed crowds in pretty much every major district, principality and metropolis. Schulz’s DJ career has, to the greater degree, run parallel to that of his productions. In the early Noughties, having fixed focus on the hinterland between trance & progressive, he began to reach audiences further and further afield. In 2004 he was signed to the David Lewis Productions agency (also home of the World’s No.1 DJ Armin Van Buuren) and his career took another big step forward. Now a regular fixture at the world’s biggest & most famous clubs, arenas and festivals, he lays down his unique trance-progressive vision on a weekly basis. In Europe, he’s smashed Trance Energy, Nature One & Dance Valley, worked tent-pegs loose at Creamfields & Global Gathering and brought gridlock to the Love Parade. Stateside the colossal Electric Daisy & Ultra Festivals have both felt the Schulz pressure and yet further afield still he’s induced floor upheaval in China and Australia (most recently at the Future Music Festival). After several significant showings in the Top 100 DJs chart, he now ranks as one of the top 10 DJs in the world and in 2008 was voted Best American DJ at the International Dance Music Awards.,Coldharbour Recordings: Schulz’s sound notably came quickest to the ears of continental European DJs. Following the formation of the Armada group in 2005, Armin sought Markus out and asked him to start compiling tracks for a new vinyl series. The Coldharbour Sessions EPs launched in 2004 (with the first 3 releases coming out on the already established Electronic Elements label). In quick succession they began to leave crater-like impacts on dancefloors and within 12 months Coldharbour the label was born. Named after Markus’ then-production base in London’s Coldharbour Lane, its output immediately brought a new fission sound to Armada. It also became a lightning rod for a new generation of prog-inclined producers – setting in motion the careers of (amongst others) Santiago Nino, Probspot, Mark Otten & Niklas Harding. With 2005 under the spell of Coldharbour’s more sophisticated, minimal, but still melodic take on the prog-trance sound, Markus struck again with the first Coldharbour Sessions mix compilation. Such has been the success of the imprint that in 2007 it was joined by a sub-label, Coldharbour Red. This, in turn, was a launch pad for Marcus Schössow, tyDi, Glenn Morrison & Evol Waves and was the point of re-entry for early Schulz side-project, Dakota (see Dakota section below). Six years after its birth, in 2010, Coldharbour stands at the top tier of the world’s trance & progressive labels and has reached the threshold of its 100th release.,M.S. Productions 2005 – 2010: Perfectly intersecting the quality/quantity axis, Markus’ own productions have been the most fundamental of components in marshalling clubbers and music lovers to his sound. Over the course of the last half-decade tracks like ‘First Time’ & ‘Without You Near’ (2005), ‘Fly To Colours’, ‘Never Be The Same’ & ‘I Am’ (2007) ‘Perfect’ & ‘Cause You Know’ (2008) & most recently ‘The New World’ & ‘Do You Dream’ have each played their vital part. Markus is also a keen production collaborator. In 2005 he famously teamed up with likeminded producers Gabriel & Dresden and Departure for ‘Without You Near’ and in mid-2008 did the same with Andy Moor on ‘Daydream’. The impact of all the singles has been cauterized by his studio albums ‘Without You Near’ (2005) & ‘Progression’ (2007). Schulz is currently recording his third long-player, which is scheduled for release between Qs 2&3, 2010.,The Global DJ Broadcast show: Now in its fifth year Schulz’s GDJB has continued to be a beacon for an always-growing throng of trance & progressive dance fans. Broadcast through leading station DI.fm and Sirius/XM satellite, the Global DJ Broadcast site and 50+ other FM & internet stations around the planet, it has become every bit required listening for the EDM-savvy. Based on a regular format, the first show of each month is a two hour long mix from one of Schulz’s rolling World Tour gigs – ones that have of late included Medellin, Columbia, St Petersberg, Russia & Amnesia in Ibiza. Subsequent shows in the month feature Markus mixing his broad-span pick of the current electronic dance music best for an hour (which includes the forum-voted Global Selection track of the week) followed by guest mixes from both established and up-and-coming DJs.,Markus Schulz – The City Albums: Markus is also responsible for one of the longest running and most respected compilation album series in trance/electronic dance history. Kicking off in 2005 in Miami, its city-hopping concept has gone on to spotlight Ibiza in ’06, Amsterdam in ’08 and Toronto in ’09. Providing a microcosmic view of his now instantly recognisable sound, they have become cornerstones for fans CD & mp3 collections, with each new travelogue edition bringing in a fresh wave of supporters. Notably, the Amsterdam ’08 release was nominated for an IDMA award for Best Full Length DJ Mix (in the same year that Markus took home the trophy for Best American DJ).,Remixes: Markus powered into remix action in the early 90s with a 30+ volley of high-profile reworks. Over the course of the decade he re-tooled the production works of Euro dominators like The Real McCoy & Technotronic, house masters & divas Armand Van Helden & Liz Torres, legendary Nineties icons RuPaul, Bette Midler & Sandra Bernhard and fully-fledged A-listers like Madonna. As the Millennium arrived though he began to work on deeper, more intrinsically electronic dance fare… In 2000 he remixed trance innovator Pablo Gargano’s ‘Absolution’, PQM’s Renaissance classic ‘The Flying Song’ and Fatboy Slims ‘Sunset (Bird of Prey). Satisfied that he’d found the right dance strata to focus on Markus has gone on to rewire tracks by Oceanlab, Motorcycle, Dance 2 Trance, Cosmic Gate, Nalin & Kane, Kyau & Albert, John O’Callaghan, & Space Manoeuvres amongst many, many others.,Markus Schulz aka: Dakota: Markus has only made rare use of pseudonyms through his career – seeing them as being only valuable if they represent an outlet for something other than his ‘regular’ output. At the turn of the last decade Schulz released 3 tracks (‘Swirl’, ‘Frozen’ & ‘Lost in Brixton’) under the moniker Dakota. Over time these became focal points for the year-on-year exponential intake of new fans. In 2009 Schulz paid dividend to that by resurrecting the guise, updating its sound and directed his attentions on a whole album of new Dakota material. ‘Thoughts Become Things’ was the end product and with it came a route diversion that went into a new valley-deep sound – one that expanded to embrace the fringes of techno, house and other sub-genres. It once again fortified the Schulz’s fanbase and expanded the range of DJ support for his music. The album has thus far justified 7 single releases that have included particular fan-favourites ‘Chinook’, ‘Johnny the Fox’, ‘Koolhaus’ & ‘Mr Cappuccino’.,Prepared by Tim Stark.

  • Mike Perry

Mike Perry, aka Mikael Persson, is a Swedish DJ and dance producer known for the hit single "The Ocean." Working as a serviceman for Volvo in the Swedish town of Skövde, Persson pursued music as a hobby in his spare time. Exploring his creativity and a multitude of ideas, he started writing with singer/songwriter Shy Martin and Nirob Islam of the electro-pop trio Sodra Station. The result was the aforementioned song, an upbeat dance track composed of warm, summery synth work, pulsating electro beats, and entrancing vocals. Stating that he made sure to not over-complicate the song sonically, Persson aimed to depict the feel and tone of 21st-century dance music with simplicity yet surefire positive vibes. Not expecting it to be a hit, the DJ was astonished when the track eventually went viral, surpassing nine million streams in just six weeks. It shot to the top of the charts in Sweden, while also climbing the Top 40 throughout the rest of Europe. ~ AllMusic

He has cranked out more dance floor destroyers, sold-out gigs, number one records, and awards than most artists do in a lifetime.,With the help of classics like Grasshopper, Punk’d and Riff, recent hits like Love is Darkness and ofcourse massive collabs and remixes of The Killers (Spaceman), Sia (The Girl You Lost To Cocaine), Robbie Williams (Close My Eyes) and Depeche Mode (Peace) Sander shrugged off the confines of genre typecasting long ago and created something he preferres to call ‘SvD-style’.,Besides his busy production schedule, Sander has worked tirelessly to bring his radioshow ‘Identity’ and his clubbing concept, Dusk till Doorn to fruition. And if this mountain of accomplishments were not enough, he somehow makes time to produce his quarterly ‘how-to’ show called ‘Studio Sessions’ on his YouTube channel (SanderVanDoornTV).,With a tour diary that sees the superstar play to more than a million fans each year, there’s no doubt that Sander Van Doorn is one of dance music’s favorite sons. Within just a few years, Sander has blasted his way to the top. And this is only the beginning.

  • SCOOTER

Of course, the band’s route to success was not quite as simple as frontman H.P. Baxxter describes. Scooter have indeed worked hard on their career and – we should not forget – they have now been in the business for over ten years. The former techno trio, who fought their way through the discotheques with “Hyper Hyper”, has developed into a serious band that now fills arenas with 80,000 people, has sold over ten million records and whose list of gold and platinum discs just seems to be endless.,Did anyone expect this back in 1994 when the band was formed in its original line-up? H.P. Baxxter, Rick J. Jordan, Ferris Bueller and, not least, manager and label boss Jens Thele started small: The trio’s debut “Hyper Hyper” went straight into the charts – and was immediately passed off as a one-hit wonder. However, the critics and journalists spoke far too soon. The follow-up hits like “Move Your Ass”, “Friends”, “Endless Summer”and “Back In The UK” were all just as successful. Anyone who believed that Scooter just wanted ride on the wave of their first hit were very wrong. Fun was and is the driving force behind the trio, by far more than the pressure to succeed and live up to expectations.,This explains the phenomenon of Scooter seeming to re-invent themselves for almost every single. Constantly combining styles that others would strictly separate, H.P., Rick and Ferris employ their unbelievable creativity with a healthy portion of humour and irony. The result is electronic ballads, eighties-style electro tracks, melancholic songs like “No Fate” or “She’s The Sun” and the legendary techno rock monster “Fire” (1997), which still sends H.P.’s “Flying V” guitar up in flames each night on stage. New member Axel Coon also felt this when he replaced Ferris Bueller in 1997, as did his successor Jay Frog, who is still a permanent member of the trio today.,All band members have their own special roles: H.P. still writes all of the lyrics while Rick and Jay are busy with the playbacks in the studio. To keep Scooter’s hand in club scene, Jay has taken over the role of DJ and also mixes a set for the Kontor Radio Show every other week. Jens Thele, the man behind the scenes, is responsible for anything to do with organisation and Logistics. He is also the one to ensure the band gets back on track after any disputes.,If it wasn’t for this work distribution, Scooter would very probably not be where they are today. Twenty-eight singles and thirteen albums clearly show that Scooter are a lot more than just a project. All critics and doubters will have had to admit that by now too.,Scooter’s new single “Shake That!” sees the band take a brave step by placing H.P.’s shouts over pumping disco house music. This courage has also already been rewarded: “Shake That!” entered the charts at number eight – incidentally making it their seventh Top Ten entry in succession!,Scooter are now about to bring out their fourteenth album. And “Mind The Gap” has many new features to offer: The album will be sold in three different price categories for the first time. In addition to the basic version, which just consists of the simple disc (EUR 9.99), there is also a regular version (EUR 14.99) with a booklet, bonus tracks, video, a making of, photos and interview, as well as a deluxe edition (EUR18.99). The latter contains all the features of the regular version plus a bonus CD with eleven live tracks from the “We Like It Loud Tour 2004”.

  • SEVEN LIONS

“A man of very few words, Seven Lions, nee Jeff Montalvo, chooses to let his basslines do the talking for themselves. A brand-new producer coming in blazing hot thanks to an official endorsement from super-group Above & Beyond (currently number 5 on the world’s Top 100 DJs), Seven Lions is about to embark on his first-ever tour supporting his fellow young dub-superstars Gemini, Koan Sound, and Bassex.,‘Fast’ is an understatement for how things have been moving as Montalvo’s popularity skyrockets among fans of both trance, Dubstep, and everything in between. The 24-year-old Lompoc, California native currently resides in Santa Barbara, California, and began making music when his father first brought him home a Macintosh and keyboard at age 7. After playing in metal and punk bands throughout middle school and high school, Montalvo turned to producing in his late teens.,“For me, it was the most accessible thing, to start picking up something like drums as opposed to something like electronic music. My transition out of playing with a band was because I got tired of waiting for my band all the time — I wanted to just start making music so I started composing electronic music by myself,” Montalvo explains.,After a friend gave Montalvo the digital audio program Fruityloops, he began messing around with industrial drum beats and playing with the idea of genres. After attending his first rave in 2007, Montalvo was inspired to produce trance — but slowly found that broken beat came more naturally to the drummer-at-heart. “It’s more like playing a real instrument, as opposed to doing the four-on-the-floor disco beat. It’s more natural for me,” he says.,As Seven Lions, Montlavo is a natural at spanning all genres. However, it is his remix of Above & Beyond and Zoe Johnston’s “You Got To Go” which served as his breakout hit and introduction to the EDM world.,“I won the official remix competition, which is how I got involved with [Above & Beyond]. I don’t know if they were expecting the track to do as well as it did. But it definitely got their attention, and now they’re wanting to work with me more.",That the remix “did well” is an understatement — typical of the soft-spoken Montalvo. The meteoric track sat at #2 on Beatport’s Dubstep chart for over 6 weeks, second only to Skrillex’s remix of Levels, with hundreds of thousands of listens across Youtube. And since winning the competition, several other artists from Above & Beyond’s label, Anjunabeats, have begun talks in working with Seven Lions and his melodic take on dubstep.,“Just having Above & Beyond listen to the song was the coolest thing that’s ever happened to me,” says Montalvo. “They’re idols, and the fact that they liked it was awesome — but just the fact that they even listened to it was enough to get me excited.”,From metal band member, to solo industrial producer, to a trance-dub trailblazer — what’s next for Seven Lions? His first touring experience on a leg of the UKF tour with Gemini and Koan Sound starts at the end of March 2012, followed by an EP on Viper Recordings, where Camo & Krooked got their start. The producer is also in talks with Armin Van Buuren’s label Armada about releasing a dubstep track with them, and will surely work with Above & Beyond again after the success of the “You Got To Go” Remix.,What can fans expect from the upcoming EP? “Lots of dubstep, some melodic dubstep, breakbeats — Shaz Sparks is doing some vocals over it. We’re trying to finish it by the end of March,” he says. An innovative, fresh-thinking producer who isn’t afraid to bridge the gap between trance and dubstep, Seven Lions is the Future sound about to take the world by storm.

  • SIGMA

Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie aka Sigma, have been making their presence felt on the drum and bass scene since 2007. From early releases on labels such as Charge and Viper Recordings, to the seminal All Blue on Zinc’s Bingo imprint (one of DNBA’s most downloaded tracks ever), the boys stepped up to the big time with serious dancefloor killers Paint It Black and the anthem El Presidente VIP.,With respect now gained with the scene as producers and highly sought after DJs, Sigma continue working to maximise their profile within the realms of D&B and beyond it. Highlights include their featured minimix for Annie Mac on Radio One, squeezing in 35 tracks in five minutes as well as remix work for artists such as Top Cat on Special Dedication, Ms Dynamite, and grime stalwart Skepta on Rescue Me (400,000 plays and counting). They were also awarded Best Breakthrough DJs at the Drum & Bass Arena awards. A great way to cap off a successful year, and more recognition of Cam and Joe’s hard work and dedication to their craft.,With a new decade now here Sigma are intent on leaving their indelible mark etched permanently on the scene. Kicking off 2010 with Shut The Lights Off with Adam F and hip hop legend Redman, this is followed by their debut release for Breakbeat Kaos… The Stand Tall EP. From the dancefloor stylings of Original Sin’s remix of Front To Back and brain thumping anthem The Jungle to the more melodic vibes on Baltimore and the vocodered vox on Stronger, The Stand Tall EP covers all bases. Confirmation of this is shown by the fact three of the EPs four tracks feature on the Ministry of Sound compilation CD entitled Mixed…. By DJ Friction, along with Paint It Black VIP. To add to all of this is the exciting collaboration with BBK head honcho and D&B legend DJ Fresh on Cylon. An unadulterated stomper of the highest order, Cylon, supported by the likes of Andy C and Goldie, is the lead track from Fresh’s latest long player Kryptonite.,What else to look forward to from Sigma? Well, there’s more episodes of their Life Podcasts. Utilising this wide reaching medium as a platform to further showcase their and other artists talents, previous guests include Goldie, Original Sin, DJ Fresh, IC3 and The Nextmen. • SOLARSTONE

From scene founding father to, of-late, initiator and flag-bearer for the Pure Trance movement, Solarstones enduring influence spans the near length of the genre’s history. Having championed the true nature of trance music from his very first release, the last 24 months have seen Solarstone drive its sound, almost singlehandedly, back up to the top of the genre’s agenda. Through his #PureTrance gospel – modernizing the genre’s heart, whilst maintaining its soul – he captured the mood of the scene with zeitgeist timing. Solarstone’s Pure Trance concept has subsequently spun off into a mix-comp series, Pure Trance shows worldwide (including electronic music capitals like Miami, Ibiza & Amsterdam) and most recently the Pure Trance Recordings label.,Solarstone has long brought his sound to some of the most famous clubs, arenas and festivals on the planet. Most recently those have included Global Gathering, Cream Ibiza, A State Of Trance and Tomorrowland in Europe, whilst further afield he’s rocked TomorrowWorld, Stereosonic, FSOE & numerous others. With ‘RainStarsEternal’, ‘Touchstone’ and most recently ‘Pure’, he’s released a trilogy of critically acclaimed artist albums, whilst releases from Solarstone’s manifold label projects (Touchstone Recordings and Molecule among them) continue to provide the foundation blocks of his inimitable sets. Solaris International – his weekly radio show – enjoys a die-hard fan-base and is now broadcast across some 50 + FM & Internet stations. In October of 2013, off the back of the Pure Trance wave, Solarstone re-entered DJ Mag’s list of the planet’s Top 100 DJs.,Solarstone – The Music: Solarstone’s musical history though stretches back almost as far as the genre itself, with tracks like ‘Solarcoaster’, ‘The Calling’ and ‘Seven Cities’ all hallmark anthems of its pre-millennial period. The latter track – among the first of the Balearic Trance anthems – has been re-released 3 times and has sold in excess of ½ million copies. Remixed in 2002 by Armin Van Buuren, its instantly recognizable sunset/sunrise-sound legacy is still heard in tracks today.,In 2012 Solarstone released the ‘Pure’ album. A reaction to the fragmentation of the trance sound, Solarstone used the album as a means to clarify his position in the genre. Thus far it has spawned five singles, ‘The Spell’ (“a revelation” – EDM Magazine), ‘Fireisland’ (with Aly & Fila), ‘Lovers’, its title track and ‘Falcons’ with Giuseppe Ottaviani (Tune of the Month! – MIXMAG). ‘Pure’ became the natal point for the Pure Trance movement.,Prior to that in 2008, Solarstone put out ‘RainStarsEternal’ – an album described by DJ Mag as: “a consummate all-rounder”. It generated six singles including ‘4ever’ and ‘Late Summer Fields’ (which Richard also sang and wrote lyrics for). ‘Touchstone’, the follow up, was a concerted effort by Richard to chart the inspirations that made up Solarstone’s musical psyche. Press and fans embraced its concept, with Tilllate Magazine branding the album both “fantastic” and “beautifully produced” and MIXMAG labelling its title track “the summer of ‘99 recalibrated and refined for 2010”.,Mix-Comps: Solarstone is best known as the helmsman for two on-going, highly successful mix-compilation projects. Now enjoying two outings, Solarstone Presents Pure Trance has seen him team up with Giuseppe Ottaviani and Orkidea to mix-define the sound of the movement. In October 2013 MIXMAG magazine said of the second release: “Vol.1 was a tough act to follow, but Solarstone Presents Pure Trance 2 is a huge step up”.,Born from his longstanding love of pop art, Electronic Architecture won immediate acclaim for its imaginative concept. It was hailed as “a magical blend of music, art and design” by Tilllate Magazine, a “genuine gem” by DJ Mag and in March 2010 was nominated for an IDMA award in the Best Full Length Mix category. A progressive-trance Yin to the ‘Pure Trance’ Yang, two years later Electronic Architecture² (Or Electronic Architecture Squared) was released to similarly high praise, with MIXMAG’s giving it an Album of the Month award and saying it “captured the essence of what we all love about trance”. Summer of 2014 will see the arrival of the third in the EA series.,Solarstone – The DJ: Solarstone behind a pair of CDJs is something that every electronic dance music lover, planet-wide, should witness at least once in their clubbing lifetimes. Worldwide his Pure Trance shows have captured the imagination of tens of thousands in electronic music hotspots like Miami, Ibiza & Amsterdam. Since learning to spin in the late Nineties, he’s played some of the most renowned names (inc. Global Gathering, Cream Ibiza, A State Of Trance, Tomorrowland, TomorrowWorld, Stereosonic, FSOE & numerous others) and spun alongside the worlds best-known DJs many times over. Richard’s worldwide travels have also taken him to some of the biggest events and festivals across the globe, and also some of the most remote. Over the years these have included islands in the Philippines, bush parties in Australia and massive festivals in the heart of Brazil.,Solaris International – The Solarstone Show: Solaris International is Richard’s long-running, widely syndicated radio show platform. Its weekly hour-long format includes features like the Progressive and the Uplifting Selections, Not The Kind of Thing We Usually Play, the Big Tune and the Chill Out Moment. From its early cult following, over the last four years the show has developed into a tune-in essential for broad cross-section of the electronic dance community. Solaris International is broadcast across some 50+ FM & Internet stations to a listenership now in excess of 8 million, receiving its first airing on every Tuesday at 18:00 GMT/ 19:00 CET on Afterhours.FM. In the spring of 2014 Solaris International passed its 400th show milestone.,The Labels: In 2014 Solarstone’s cornerstone labels Touchstone Recordings and the more experimental Molecule became a trinity with the launch of Pure Trance Recordings. In partnership with esteemed Dutch music house Black Hole Recordings, it brought a label platform to the movement’s most gifted music makers. Previously he has owned, co-owned and A&Rd and many successful labels, including Solaris Recordings, Deepblue and Crashing Waves. At the start of 2009, Richard launched solarSwarm, an online community record label for die-hard Solarstone fans. In the summer of the same year his insatiable label morphed into solarSwarm Recordings. In a groundbreaking move solarSwarm became the world’s very first social network record label.,Solarstone – The Aliases: In order to showcase different musical perspectives & sounds, Richard has also recorded under a number of pseudonyms. In 2002 he initiated the 80’s-influenced Young Parisians outfit who scored substantial club hits with ‘U Write the Rules’ and ‘Jump the Next Train’. The natural successor to Young Parisians, 2012 saw him reteam with Ben Lost as Federation – a new band-based live act. Drawing on an even greater range of influences, from several decades, it was signed to Oakenfold’s Perfecto Flouro and has so far resulted in 4 Beatport top 10 charting singles.,Solarstone – The Remixes: Over the years Solarstone has always maintained a keen balance between original production tracks and remix works. Most recently he has worked on remixes of Armin van Buuren’s ‘Forever Is Ours’, Alex M.O.R.P.H.s ‘Eternal Flame’, John O Callaghan ft Ria – I’ll Follow and Delerium’s ‘Days Turn Into Nights’. He has also remixed for A-list names like Paul Oakenfold (‘Bullet in The Gun’), Ferry Corsten (on Moonman’s ‘Galaxia’ and ‘Gabriella’s Sky’) & BT’s ‘Calling Your Name’.,Quotes,What the Magazines say:,“Standby to receive your trance refined, clarified and 100% Pure!” – Tilllate Magazine,“Vol.1 was a tough act to follow, but ‘Solarstone Presents Pure Trance 2’ is a huge step up” MIXMAG magazine,“Pure’ celebrates the feeling you get when you hear a truly outstanding track” – Euphoric Magazine (India),“(‘The Spell’) is a revelation” – EDM Magazine (USA),“A guitar ‘n’ piano soaked goosebump popper (‘Fireisland’)” – DJ Mag UK,“Touchstone’, Solarstone’s new artist album will shake up expectations of what trance should be.” DJ Mag (UK),“Solarstone has definitely delivered an amazing piece of work on Electronic Architecture and understood perfectly how to combine different styles on this compilation.” Raveline,“A magical blend of music, art and design” that “recalls the understated magic of Sasha and Digweed’s first Renaissance albums” Tilllate Magazine (UK),“Electronic Architecture is a very strong and original compilation to say the least. Nothing of the typical uplifting trance sound, but very innovative and one that will last for another 10 years!” Release Magazine (Belgium),“Solarstone has amassed a worldwide following from clubbers and DJs alike”,M8 Magazine (UK),“(Electronic Architecture is) a very different compilation than the ones we are accustomed to hearing… Without resorting to the obvious and commercial, it is one of the best shots of 2009!” DJ Sound Magazine – Brazil,“Solarstone has always been about quality rather than quantity.”,BPM Magazine (Canada),“It (Electronic Architecture²) captures the essence of what we all love about trance – Album of the Month” Mixmag (UK),“Richard Mowatt proves his class. • SUB FOCUS

With several tracks to his name all made in the space of the last twelve months 2004 has been a massive year for Nick aka Sub Focus: the year has seen him breakthrough in unprecedented fashion armed with the likes of the technically astounding “Acid Test”, the simple yet devastatingly effective “Strobe”, the lively “Get on Up” and the altoghether awesome “X-Ray”. In a matter of months, he has gone from being one of many wannabe producers to become a permanent fixture of the award winning Ram Records family. Artists like Sub Focus are what “Best Breakthrough Producer” awards are made for.,Even though Nick has been obsessed with dance music, both its creation and its culture for a large chunk of his formative years, his first experience with making music came from playing bass in a rock band at school. However his involvement with the band didn’t last very long as on hearing dance music Nick was totally blown away by it’s diversity and the variety of sounds on offer. Consequently he decided that the tone of rock music didn’t satisfy as he felt it to be far too limited, in contrast Nick found the unlimited tonal possibilities of dance music to be extremely exciting. Particular music that got him hooked included; General Levy’s “Incredible” and most things from Prodigy’s early years.,Nick actually started making beats at the tender age of thirteen on an old Acorn computer, although to begin with he was just messing around he quickly found his passion and this light hearted hobby gradually became an obsession. It’s important to note that until recently Nick has been entirely self taught, his only aid coming from a whole host of software instruction manuals which he enjoyed reading from cover to cover.,Things didn’t really start to happen for him until last year when he made a conscious decision to take his production process extremely seriously. Nick enrolled in a renowned sound engineering course in London’s East End, where he found himself polishing up his self taught skills, whilst also going deeper into the realms of truly understanding the concept of sound.,Eventually Nick managed to make a few things that he felt proud of so he began to give out some CDs for his friends to listen to, only looking for a bit of feedback. However, a certain friend decided to take one of these “Don’t Play Them to Anyone Else” CDs and give one to award winning DJ and Ram Record’s label owner Andy C. On hearing the tracks Andy not only saw talent but he saw a release, within hours Nick had the phone call and within weeks Nick had his first release on Ram’s much respected sister imprint Frequency: a 12" featuring “Down the Drain” with “Hotline” on the flip.,With this new found confidence in mind; in recent months Nick went in the studio and rolled out three brilliant bits of production in quick succession. To Nick’s delight all of them got the stamp of approval; “Acid Test” and “Get On Up” will act as his follow up release on Frequency whilst his brilliant “Strobe” is to be included on Chapter Six of the Ram Raiders series on Ram Records. All the above tracks have been really well received by the scene’s top flight DJs but to Nick’s surprise press and radio have been in support too; they’ve all received regular airplay on both Grooverider’s BBC Radio 1 Drum & Bass show and Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 prime time specialist show.,All that remains to be said is remember the name and watch this space.
